I own a Hi Gear Gobi 4,i think its an absolutely fabulous tent for the money. There is plenty of room in this spacious unit. The bedroom is nice and roomy and also the lounge area is roomy too. Just spent three nights away in it for the first time and loved it from the moment it was erected. Its a very nice looking tent too and looks smart and neat. Very easy to erect and pack away as well. It rained very heavy one morning and the gobi 4 stood up to its expectations well. It stayed as dry as a bone inside considering it rained very heavy continuously for about 5 hours and more. The gobi 4 is very light inside with plenty of windows and three doors. There is only one small downside to this tent and that is when it is or has been raining and you open the front door to go out or come in, the rain water falls off the door and into the inside of the tent on the floor, so be a little careful when this happens. Other than that its a big plus for this little gem of a tent.

This is my second Gobi 4 (first one was returned to Go Outdoors after reading that a fellow member had did the same as me & picked up the one without SIG & after 2 weekends away in the none SIG I had this replaced By staff at Go Outdoors Many Thanks)
After years on 6 – 8 man tents I needed to size down & liked the look of the Gobi 4,
• Living area: This is great, loads of space & height is great plenty of room for tables & chairs , 3 good doors , ( 2 side & 1 front ) all with mesh , the windows allow for plenty of light to come in if required, I have also purchased the carpet which fits great
• Bedroom: Plenty of space in here , I know it says 4 man but always as the rule size it down by 1 so 3 comfortable, we use this as just 2 , this allows plenty of space either side of Mattress to store bags etc stacking units.
• Set Up: This took about 20 Minutes on last Trip but would say between 20 – 40 Minutes, very easy to put up , we put Both Black long sections in Fist , (Ring & Pin) then push grey centre poles though, Then peg out ,
• Features : Inside the living area there are pockets to holds bit & Pieces , the bedroom also has pockets to store things, the flap to feed electric hook up is great this has a zip that allows a nice sealed unit once you have fed your cable threw, Fluorescent Guy ropes
• Make Up : The tents hydrostatic is 3, 000 which is very good having been in the rain twice with no issues , the Gobi is also fire retardant.
On my last trip my friends were very impressed with My Gobi 4 that 2 have been to purchase these,
This is a great Tent & value for Money

As a new camper I was looking for a reasonable sized tent for myself and OH to use for two or three nights at a time. We purchased the Gobi 4 from Go Outdoors this year for £129. I also liked the Icrus 500 but at the time it was too expensive and over our budget.
I found the Gobi 4 ideal with many good features:
1. Options for front door are completely covered, window or mesh. It can also be used as a canopy. The canopy poles come with the tent.
2. Three mesh doors on all three sides are great for airing out. We pitched next to trees with quite a few flies about. It was great to have the open air feeling without the flies invading us. This feature is a definite must for any future tent buying especially living in Scotland.
3. Full mesh and screen door of sleeping compartment also great for that open air feeling without invasive bugs.
4. Fully sewn in groundsheet (SIG) makes it completely wind, rain and bug free. From reading other reviews it sounds like the earlier version didn’t have the SIG. I don’t mind the bugs it’s the 4 leggy furry friends I’m not keen on. Sleeping area has it’s own SIG too.
5. The tent is very easy to erect using a four pole system. The two long all black poles cross over the top to create a dome effect. The two smaller black and grey are used at the front to give the tunnel look. I managed to put this tent up with a little help from my daughter in 20 mins. It needs someone to hold up the inside until all four corner poles/key pins are secured into place. Plenty of pegs and lines to hold it firmly in place.
6. The large living area is great. I’m 5’2” and struggle to reach the roof inside. There is no problem with adults standing anywhere in the living area and front/centre of the sleeping area. Loads of room for airbeds and bags in the sleeping pod. We managed 1 double with loads of room to walk round at either side.
7. Pockets in the main living area for scissors, matches, keys, phone and all those little bits and bobs that lay around. Also two pockets at low bed height either side of the sleeping area. The pockets are a great feature again keeping little things off the floor.
8. On our first trip we had hours of rain and the Gobi 4 held up well. The design features and structure of the side poles act like a gutter to stop rain dripping over the side doors. Hadn’t thought of it before until we saw all the water running off the roof and away from the doors. We have not experienced high winds (yet) but I understand that dome tents withstand the wind better. I hope.
9. Plenty of ventilation with openings along the front at the top and one larger at the back of the sleeping area.
10. I loved the windows to the front allowing that conservatory type viewing if required. Easy peg up window covers quickly transform it to fully enclosed for privacy. While indoors in the rain we still had a lovely view of the Scottish mountains and lots of light. Unfortunately our neighbours didn’t.
My only complaint about the tent would be the design of the front door. The bottom of the front zipped mesh door (internal) is level with the bottom of the waterproof outer door which does not have a zip across the bottom. The outside door itself could be doing with being a little longer to allow the mesh door to be opened internally. This would greatly assist opening/closing of the curtain. I would prefer two zips on the mesh which allows access to both sides of the curtain (if the designers area reading this). That being said, it is not a major problem.
We find the Gobi 4 tent to be a great value for money. We think it has everything one needs for a weekend offering ample spacious accommodation. It certainly has loads of positive features and I would recommend it to a couple (or with one small child) to use.

Only been out in it once yet, but what a fantastic experience, plenty of room for 4 of us to sit in and chat the night away, fly sheets on every door and a bedroom that fit 2 of us with room at both sides. For those who found it draughty I think if you put your bed the other way you will be fine. Quite easy to put up as we had not put a tent up since the kids were little and I think it will take even less time next attempt. Fluorescent guy ropes very handy as I seem to remember tripping a lot years ago! Definitely recommend to others

This is so easy to put up compared with the Atakama 5, and I think its about the same sleeping compartment size. I love the fact you have 3 doors with flysheets. It also has only a few gu ropes making it quicker to put up than tunnel tents. The carpets fits also the sleeping area and porch making it versatile. Great for a couple as you have plenty or room for your food, cooker, chairs and table but small for 4 adults.

Bought this tent last week from Go Outdoors in Blackburn for £99 upgrading from an old small tent that we have been putting up with for years. What a complete joy. You could have parties in it, it's massive! Took it for a test run to the Yorkshire Dales last weekend. Took about 40 minutes to put up, mainly because I was trying to fix an end pole to a centre fixing. Der! Could easily pitch it in 20 next time. Very well designed and manufactured tent, with a number of very innovative ideas.
Weather was cold, windy and damp, but we were warm and dry. No problems.
Only thing we noticed was that it didn't have the sewn in ground sheet and the door opens to the side, so we couldn't use it as a porch. Hence 9/10 rating. I mentioned this in passing last night whilst in Go Outdoors (it's my new favourite place!) and the Manager, Ian, told us that we must have been given an old model in error. He said to just drop it in and he would replace it with the new version. Couldn't have been more helpful! 5* service. I know we're not supposed to name check, but I thought he deserved a big up!
Next week we're off to Snowdonia (the wettest place in the UK?) for a week. Will hopefully be able to upgrade the rating to a 10 using the new tent.

I bought this tent back in 2009 for £99.99 from Go Outdoors Stockport (discount card price) & have been really happy with it.
I think the price I got seems to have been a real bargain because they are now advertising it at £149.99 (Apr 2011 discount card price).
I chose to get this tent because it perfectly matched my budget & ticked all boxes for what I was looking for. I am 6'4' tall, so it was important for me to get a tent which had a decent sized bedroom area & this one does - it allows me to snugly fit in 2 double size airbeds and is very comfortable. Some of the previous reviewers have noted that the bedroom vent can be a bit draughty though I can honestly say I’ve never noticed this?
Similarly, the living area is an equally good size. The almost vertical edges really maximise the space by allowing chairs to be positioned right up against the walls & not forcing you to duck your head. This means 4 people (6 at a stretch) can comfortably sit around a table – which is great for congregating with your fellow campers if it is raining!. The best part of the living area however is it is tall enough to stand up in, which is great for cooking & getting changed and there is also a nice touch with netted pouches on the inner door so you can put your keys & coins in etc.
To pitch it is reasonably easy - the tent pitches with the outer flysheet first, then the inner room with built in groundsheet gets hooked to the inside. It can be a little difficult to pitch in the wind, but, once you have got used to it, it becomes easier. I can pitch it on my own, but usually get someone to help me with the initial lift after pegging out. The instructions advise you to thread all the poles before lifting, though I advise (like other reviewers) to leave the grey poles until the tent has been lifted, else it is just too heavy to get up in the air. I should note that my tent came with the footprint included, though I have noticed this is now being sold separately in go outdoors for about a tenner!
I have used this tent in both extremes of weather (hot & cold) & it held up very well. In the heat there is ample ventilation – side doors can be opened with the bug shields protecting you from insects, although the front door does not have one. In the wet is where I was most impressed. The tent has seen its way through a number of rainstorms & has so far never leaked on me!
The only issue worthy of a mention is I once had a couple of poles splinter in some particularly bad wind! Schoolboy error, I chose to pitch up facing a friend as opposed to putting the back end into the wind. The wind got up in the night & was blowing full force direct into the ‘side’ of the tent! It held up well for quite a long time, but in the end the side guy rope snapped & a couple of sections of pole splintered – had I have pitched properly no damage would have occurred. The repair was easy, I simply went to go outdoors to get replacement poles & they gave me them for free!
Overall, a very good tent for the money!

After returning 3 Hi Gear Atakama 5 tents because of faults we decided to pay the difference (the Atakama was on offer at £60 when we got it and the Gobi £100) and get one of these. The quality of this tent compared to the Atakama is far better.
It is easy to put up with colour coded poles and sleeves Grey poles go through sleeves with grey ends and the black poles through black ended sleeves. The ring and pin ends have an adjustable strap so loosen it off, put the ring into the end of the pole and once pegged down tighten them up. Our tent came with a footprint ground sheet(can be bought separate) and this did keep the fixed ground sheet clean and dry, and we did have quite a lot of rain on our weekend away. The bedroom on this tent is classed as a 4 man, and you can get two double airbeds in (we did) but it is tight, but most tents do seem to over state the sleeping room. I, personally would say two adults if camping for a week, 3 for a long weekend, max. It has good stand up hight in the living area for most under 6 foot tall, and three doors to give good access regardless of wind direction. The two side doors have fly nets but the front doesn't. The bedroom also has a fly net door as well as the standard. The bedroom has good ventilation but I think the living area could do with a small vent at the top as there was condensation in the morning. This did however dry quickly once the doors were opened.
This tent is identical to the Gelert Ottawa 4 tent, We were pitched next to 3 of them, and you can get a canopy to fit the Ottawa (aprox £50) so you can extend the living space if you wish.
Overall I would say this is an excellent tent for the price (it has been down to £60 this year, so keep an eye out for the offers)

Decided to buy a tent to get some cheap weekend breaks and holidays after never even being in a tent in my life before. Also considered a caravan or camper van but tents are so much cheaper. Was very sceptical about camping due to the perceived hassle of erecting tents etc.
I almost bought the pop-up High Gear DS Fusion 4 due to its ease of erection, but after seeing the size of the Gobi 4 in the shop, this tent seemed much more practical, although I was worried about the hassle of putting it up.
I had a word with one of the assistants in Go Outdoors, who persuaded me that it was easy and would only take 10 mins to put up. EASY I thought!
It seemed a bargain for £100 which was only a tenner more than the pop-up version and it was even advertised as easy to assemble.
I couldn't wait to get it home to test. It was more like 2 hours and 10 mins to assemble rather than 10.
The only instructions you get are sewed into the carry bag and to say they are woeful is an understatement. I'm sure tents like this are a doddle to seasoned pros, but to complete and utter newbies like me, some decent instructions would have been ideal. Took absolutely ages to suss everything out, the basic, diabolical instructions are next to useless.
Once I'd got the thing assembled, it was very good, I have to say, it's just a single bedroom which is a struggle to hold 4 people, you can only fit one double and one single blow up bed, so it's more of a 3 berth really. The front room is pretty spacious and once you're over the initial frustration of assembling (if you are a newbie of course) you start to appreciate the cleverness of the design.
I slept in it in the garden overnight with the kids and it was great. Now I know how it all fits together, I think it will only take 20 mins next time to assemble. Indeed, it took only 10 mins to fully dismantle, including removing pegs and stuffing it back into the hold all.
Would have scored higher if the instructions were more comprehensive and it genuinely had room for 2 doubles in the bedroom.
Overall I'm pleased with the purchase tho, just wish the initial assembly was less frustrating than it should have been.
