A huge tent by any standards. Bought for myself, two children my friend and his two kids to camp and there was plenty of room.

I bought mine in 2011 when it was on offer in GoOutdoors (never pay full price!). I also bought the carpet (a must for luxury) and the porch.

The porch is very useful for the cooking and washing up etc and leaves the main living area uncluttered.

Last summer we stayed at Warren Park camp site in Bream when we had the biggest storm in some years. At the start of the evening when the storm began there were some 300 campers on our field. Every time I went out into the wind and rain to check all was well there were fewer each time! By the morning there were 5 tents left and three of them were the same as this one.

Some water did enter under the window flaps but not much considering the weather.

All in all, very happy with this monster and it'll get some more abuse in the coming weeks.

We bought this tent from a firm that takes back returns on e-bay. Start price 99p. We won the bidding and paid 70+ postage. It came with a spare set of poles and the large canvas bags. Everything looked new. The description on e-bay said slight fault. The only fault we found was some stitching on one end guy rope, had come undone. This formed the loop to fit tent peg in and was soon sewn up.

We camped in Devon last year, 2012. It was in the middle of our so called summer. We had a lot of wind and rain but the tent held up to all sorts of weather. We also managed to find a porch on e-bay. This didn't hold up so well. We returned from a trip out to find that one of the metal poles on the porch had bent so bad in the wind that it had to be scrapped (managed to track down a replacement pole, again on e-bay) Yet all the fibre glass poles on the main tent were fine. We had quite a lot of people on the campsite asking about our tent and were surprised at how large it was inside. So much room, we used one of the small bedrooms as a toilet. Very handy in the middle of the night.

We tried another camping trip a few weeks later in Gloucestershire. The weather was better for a few days then more rain. Tent was fine and much admired by the owner of the campsite. We kept comfortable and dry inside our big blue home. We had a small halogen heater to keep us warm at night. We also bought a carpet and footprint groundsheet. Very cosy.

We are hoping for better weather this year so we can go camping again as we just love our tent. It was such a bargain. Good old e-bay!

We bought our 10 man at the end of 2011 & didn't use it until July 2012. We had 6 out of 7 days heavy rain (RAF Fairford), the tent LEAKS where the 4 big roof panels join! It's not a big leak, but a drip that happens about 3 times per minute. We sprayed her during the one dry day & used 2 full cans (These panels are big), this cured the leak completely.

Next problem.Poor ventilation. Yes I know it has lots of side flaps, but the wind has a habit of slamming these closed during strong gusts & then the velcro holds them like it. In the morning the roof is very wet with condensation, we cured this by leaving a greenhouse electric heater running on a low setting all night.

Thats the only bad things & though not major, could make your stay a bit uncomfortable. Now the bonuses.

Before this tent we had a 6 man Outwell, that had great room for a 4 person family, but this new 10 man can easily site 14 people in the floor space! We know, we have done it ;)

Get a carpet for this tent & its home from home. We cooked inside during the evening as the weather was terrible (summer of 2012 was on a Thursday from memory).

We purchased one of these tents earlier in the year and have to say we are very impressed. They are extremely spacious with plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably and plenty of living space too. We camped in the early summer and had really bad weather a couple of days but there was not a problem with the tent it kept us all warm and dry. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to purchase a tent

I'm just updating my review as the last one was left only having test pitched it in the garden. First impressions were fabulous.Actual camping in it was completely different!

The first time we camped it was good we had all weather thrown at us. The problem was with the air vents had stretched too much plus when we opened the tent bag for the first time and the bedroom pods had dried mud in them. Go outdoors replaced the tent no questions asked.

2nd tent we only just pulled it out of the bag when we noticed a tear in it so obviously it when straight back. ( this had nothing to do with the tent. We later found out from a member of staff from go outdoors that when you take a faulty tent back they send it off to be repaired then it gets put back out for sale so in reality when you're thinking your buying a brand new tent you are not. )

3rd tent we took it camping for the weekend in Devon in July when we had all the bad rain.We could have saved time and not bothered with the tent as we got just as wet with the tent as we would of without one. I had all of an hour sleep through the night. We had no choice but to pack everything up and 6:30 in the morning in the lashing rain squeeze the tent back into the bag to take back yet again.

The living area roof just poured in. The ground sheet just let water in and the bedroom pods were sopping wet.

Lucky enough we were able to exchange for a different tent as we couldn't risk having another ruined holiday by having a dodgy tent.

The tent is very impressive in size. Perfect for a camping trip when the weather is calm and no rain or wind. Apart from the leaking and the seconds that were meant to be brand new the only thing going for this tent is that it looks good and can be pitched in approx 30-40 mins.

We have now opted for a hi gear voyager 6 we have taken no chances mind. We have waterproofed it ourselves.

We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2kids.

Next time we need to renew the tent I will be paying out for a better make eg. Outwell or Vango.

Happy camping everyone

This is the second tent we have had from hi gear . The tent is very spacious when up . Quite straight forward to put up . Stayed in the tent in a nasty down pour and wind and it was still very comfy. We share this with another couple and their little one (2) and my self and our 2 kids (5) (8) and it is big enough. Watch out for them in sale we got ours for 220 the day after they were back up to 500, so think we got a bargain.

Just returned from another holiday in our kalahari 10. Spent a week in Norfolk and had the full range of weather. I have rated the tent before but can now add that the tent is outstanding in strong winds. Not sure if the wind speeds last Thursday but looking at news reports many people suffered from them on their camp sites. Although our tent 'flexed' somewhat, it remained intact and had no leaks from the driven rain. Whilst all this was going on six children slept soundly in the pods while four adults had a very sociable evening in the living area.

An outstanding tent.

We took this tent to the South of France for two weeks this year. We are a family of 4 and wanted the extra space and standing room and boy does this tent provide it! It really was a comfortable home for 2 weeks. We have the porch too and used this as an open-air kitchen by unzipping the front.

This tent literally takes me and my husband 30 mins max to put up and slightly longer to put down (getting the air out). It is a fantastic tent.

The only thing I would change is I would put more doorway/opening options on it. It would have been nice to open up the entire living area and for the porch to stretch right across this space as well but other than that it really is a great family holiday tent.

First impressions of this (Hi Gear Kalahari 10) tent when we purchased it in Aug 2011 was what a great tent, loads of room and a matching porch to boot. However after spending a week in it in troublesome weather our opinion has changed. Our new tent the Hi Gear corado 8 is amazing in comparison. This is why?

We have had two of these tents (brand new). The first one was replaced due to it leaking, for the second one to leak as well in the same place. Luckily Go Outdoors allowed us to change the tent and porch for a totally different one.

This tent is suitable for a family who go on a annual camping holiday once a year, my opinion would be if you are serious about camping and intend to use this tent on a regular basis pick something else.

Pitching time tent only was around 45 minutes with an additional 30-45 minutes for porch and guylines. There are bigger tents on the market that take less time. The porch doesn't attach to the tent very well as the anchor straps are too short which causes the roof to push in (I believe this is because the porch was originally intended for the Kalahari 8 only and was never adapted for the 10). There is also quite a big gap from the porch to the floor. There is no built in groundsheet within the porch and as this is recommended as the kitchen area, lots of creepy crawlies get in. The tent however is an improvement on the porch, watertight and bug free. The tent alone would probably let enough light in through the windows but with the porch attached the windows are obscured and the tent on a dull day and at night has the feel of sitting in a dungeon. The plus side with this tent is that the bedroom pods are spacious sleeping 5 each end (Really they sleep 3-4 with your luggage). Bonus if you like us want your young kids sleeping in the same bedroom pod.

The weather in Britain this year has certainly tested this tent (thunder storms in June) and it still remained in tact, however on several occasions the tent dipped inwards and felt on the verge of caving in. This prompted us to return this tent and purchase a steel frame tent instead. Friends of ours have replaced the fibre glass poles on several occasions due to it's inability to cope with Britain's weather. Would not recommend this tent, add a little extra money on top and purchase some of the better tents available by Go Outdoors or other well known brands.

I'm giving it a 6 out of 10 reluctantly.

This is a super big tent, it has 4 separate rooms but these rooms can be unzipped and made into 2. There is a zipper for posting electric cables through and pouches for storage. The living area is very large and you can stand up in all bedrooms as well as the living area.

The tent is very easy to pitch with all poles the same length but 2 people are required to stabilise it until the guy ropes are up.

The quality of the tent is ok but we don't believe it will last many years and have had several problems with the elastic holding the poles together breaking, I was told that this is due to how the tent was stored in branch but wasn't offered additional poles to replace mine.

The bag with the poles is VERY heavy but the other bag is reasonable and if packed properly it all fits back into the bags easily.

There is good ventilation which can be altered to suit needs.

Would I buy another the same - yes because the layout is the best I've found.

Manufacturer's Description

An updated version of Hi Gear's extra large tunnel tent, perfect for relaxed family camping holidays.

The Hi Gear Kalahari 10 Elite is a spacious and stable tunnel-style tent with two large partitionable bedrooms in a face-to-face layout, roomy enough for you, your family and all your gear.

Pre-attached high-visibility guylines, reduced pole sleeves, and sewn-in polyethylene groundsheet make pitching the tent quick and easy.

The bedrooms comfortably sleep five at each end of the tent, and have breathable polyester walls. Bedrooms can also be removed, to give you extra storage space, or room for dirty gear.

The huge living space has two large windows and hanging storage pockets to help keep it tidy, organised and liveable. Multiple vents along the roof help air flow throughout the tent.

The sewn-in groundsheet combined with the fire-retardant polyester flysheet (with 4000mm hydrostatic head) give you a fully sealed and ventilated internal environment, so you'll be completely protected from draughts and sustained downpours. The two doors can be propped and extended out to use for extra shelter from rain or stretching the space out for more room if it's sunny.

Other useful features include the water-repellent zips and an electrical cable access point.
