9 Reviews of the Fremont 4

Fabulous tent with loads of space. Highly recommended as family tent. We are two adults and Labrador. We open the 4 man bedroom out 1 double airbed and one comfy dog bed fit it perfectly with room for little bedside table. Only downside is everyone piles in your tent when we get a shower. Easy pitch and un pitch. Quite heavy though. Worth having the tent and poles separate. Best tent we've owned so far.

Just a quick update of my last review[2012]and following our first trip out and this year when we [missus and I] went to Cornwall in April with our Fremont 4. This time we had it up in double quick time including the big extension / awning. I've uploaded some pics of us putting it up etc to show how easy it was / is. We had heavy rain some nights with wind but absolutely no probs. I like this tent even more now after spending a week in it ~ its good quality all round and well vented with plenty of options for light and openings. We don't go in for electric usually but this tent is certainly big enough for us to consider it in future when there's just the two of us [i.E. Taking all those appliances that take up room in the car if you are taking kids etc.] I've been casting around to see if I can improve on this tent but after looking over the many alternatives I have come to the conclusion - that only a poly-cotton one would tempt me to buy any other yet. Well pleased and looking forward to Wales in June [with them little angels our three granddaughters]. :)

After 9 years away from camping (our first tent being an Outwell Hartford L) we decided it was time to start again with our littl'uns, who are 7 & 4 years old. As we had to get a lot of gear we didn't want to spend too much so we were pleased to pick up a brand new Fremont 4 for 172 incl. Carpet from Yeomans; an absolute bargain!

PRO's: Good quality materials, good size and attractive to look at. The window curtain in the living area has an innovative roll up/down zip feature; the sleeping pods allow access to the outer air vent so if you want to close it up or open it you don't have to leave the pod to do so! The side door has a rain 'brow' over the top to stop the ingress of water. The awning that's included in the price zips on really easily and has a couple of full height windows so allowing a lot of light in.

CON's: As other peoople have mentioned - the bl**dy door zips! They are a pain and you can easily zip the door shut again when you think you're actually opening it and vice verse - there's just too many of them! Also, the toggle in ground sheet flaps a lot in the wind and leaves big gaps between it and the flysheet, even when you've got the flysheet down tight. To be fair we've used it just the once so it may be we hadn't pegged the ground sheet in properly enough but it would be better if it had been a zipped in affair or had some velcro attachments. We can't comment on how rain proof it is as it hasn't seen any yet, but it was pretty stable in some fairly blustery weather. In conclusion a good tent that could be so much better if it had a less fussy door zip system and a zipped in awning ground sheet. And, as another camper mentioned it could also do with some lamp hanging points.

We have an 8 man Khyam and bought this for flexibility i.E. Can take tent and awning for long stays with 3 of our grandchildren or just the tent for the two of us. Latter option gives big sleeping area and medium / smallish living area with sewn in groundsheet. Awning when added gives large area for living but has bath type groundsheet and is fidddly / poor at keeping out wind, rain and creepy crawlies. I didn't keep ours up due to threatening heavy rain and thought it might be difficult to keep clean while packing up; however I'm sure it would have stood up to any weather - tent and awning being very sturdy with plenty of guides.

Ventilation excellent as is airiness due its side door and the end openings of both tent and awning. The fremont has lots of windows to the openings as well as mesh panels which airs the tent etc while keeping the creepies out during the closing evenings. This means lots of zips and fiddling at times but does provide the many options / combinations. Tho' it's to sleep 4 [and it does that easily] that could be doubled up if necessary using either the medium / small living area, the large awning or both.

All in all it's a sturdy tent thats easy to put up. The awning is easy up too and zips on to main tent. I'm only a novice and this was the 1st time we put it up and it was done in two halves - no photos of awning on. I'd e interested to know if it could go up in one and will certainly sort the awning bath tub groundsheet out before pegging next time. Bad points - no electric hook-up or lantern loops; area in front of bedrooms is quite small if you just put up the main tent but OK for 2; might be not so good [cosy] if weather was bad for any length of time during your stay. Looking forward to trying it out again next year.

Fantastic Tent for a family 2 Adults and 2 Children, plenty of room, as stated before with the gaps in the extension a simple and effective way to solve the rain coming in was to attach velcro to certain points of the ground sheet to the extension, sleeping area easily room for a double airbed and 2 single airbeds when inner partition un-zipped, Brilliant tent !

Excellent tent great living space easy up/down plenty of room in bag to put away.We used this tent last week june 17th weather at first was great but by weekend we had rain and gusty winds. Tent stood its ground well. Did let bits of water in around seams but not a lot considering. I think we've made a great choice

We spent a long time choosing our tent after selling our last one because it was just to big and heavy! we like the way it can be both a weekend tent and a 2 week holiday tent with the removable porch- although together its still a big bag! the living area is great with the big windows, big windows in porch too.

Very easy to put up and down, only losing marks because of all the zips and they caught lots of times as well, have to be opened very slowly. We hope to have this tent a long time.

Fantastic tent love the open area at the front, such a lot of space and an enjoyable area to sit in with the doors wide open. Look forward to going out in it in the spring. Easy to set up and take down. There are quite a lot of zips when going in and out and to go from the bedroom through the living area and into the porch area and then back again you need to open a lot of zips. Love the storage areas and the designs of the windows

Quite easy to pitch and pitches in one. Poles are easy to do and with the footprint this makes it a lot easier to see where the poles and pegs could go. Although on our first pitch we did have a gap between the wall in the living area and the bathtub groundsheet, but have figured out that the bathtub groundsheet needs to go in before the second area is pegged and guyed.

The sleeping pods are nice and roomy with pockets and can be made into one big area for a family to sleep which is how we used this tent.

The area with the sewn in groundsheet is also roomy and we had a table set up in here with fridge and older daughter also slept in here on a camp bed which was moved during the day.

The living area is fantastically spacious and the large windows made it lovely and light.

The fly sheets on the doors were fantastic although sometimes I did get a bit cross with the amount of zips it had.

It could do with some lamp hanging points.

I loved this tent and can't wait for our next trip.
