I spent a long time looking for a large sized family tent (Three young children). Some of my prereqs were - Large - Tall - Sewn in Groundsheet - Good water proofing - Electrical inlet - Fit in smaller space (This ruled out the big multi roomed domes). I wanted the Outwell Montanya 12 but found it too expensive. This tent is identical bar the enclosed canopy but much much cheaper. I found it easy to erect and pack. Do so with 7yr old son but wind can make it difficult. Very spacious and comfy and stood up to rain well. Also dries very quickly. An all round great family tent. To really go the whole hog I have added the following Montana 12 extras all purchased half price on ebay - footprint ground sheet, carpet and universal side canopy. Makes life camping that much nicer. Be warned though you will need a big boot to stow this lot in and the tent in two bags is heavy! Also some sites will not allow a footprint this big, but plenty do. To really round this off I purchased a flocked inflatable settee/mattress for £29 for those rainy days watching DVD's. Real home from home and I cannot recommend the Gelert Meridian 10 highly enough. Also worth noting that the Montana is advertised as a 12 man at the same size and configuration as the Meridian 10.

Love this tent. It's easy to put up but you do need two people to do this. It has loads of space inside, you could leave out one of the bedrooms at the end if needed to give loads more space.

You can easily fit 10 people in it and if you don't mind sleeping in the centre section you can fit loads more. The guy's are already fitted so that saves time too. It is very sturdy considering it's size. This tent is great value for money and I would recommend it to any large family or party.

Used the tent four times this year the weather hit us with everything but we stayed dry and snug. Another review asked what the velcro was for on the middle inside pole, its for the electric cable so it doesn't run across the floor

We bought this tent after looking at the Michigan last year. We bought mainly for the sewn in ground sheet, as well as it being so spacious inside, and the superb price. Really easy to put up,we have had tunnel tents in the past, but as others have said had difficulty getting it back in the bag ( more practice required ).Was wondering if anyone can tell me what the velcro is for inside on the middle pole ?

Bought this tent last week and just back from 2 nights camping in the NE of Scotland. It was easy to put up (considering that we had not had a dry run before going!) and the rooms were very spacious inside. Great height inside bedrooms and main living area - we are tall but there was always loads of headroom. We left one bedroom down and it gave us loads of space - we could have had a party for our neighbours inside! We also got the carpet for the tent and it was super for keeping the kids warm while they played uno!

The only down side was that we need practice in packing the tent into its bag. It was a bit windy and the tent kept filling up with air as we tried to pin it down and roll it. However I am sure with practice we will improve. The tent stood up to a fair bit of high winds although I was concerned if it would take off. I suppose the important thing is to have all the guy ropes well tied down and keep an eye out for the door you open on a windy day.

Overall we had a great time and we are looking forward to using the tent for our main holiday next year. Good value for money from Makro in Glasgow just now - would recommend this tent from my limited experience with it so far.

We have just come back a day early from a very windy night's camping down at Lydd in Kent. Unfortunately, whilst the Gelert Meridian is spacious, warm comfortable and full of great features eg storage pockets, good head height, built in ground sheet it cannot stand up to high winds.

Being so large the wind really gets inside and by the time we had made the decision to go home one of the poles had slpit, 2 of the seams had ripped, and the actual material itself to which one of the guy ropes attaches had ripped clean down the middle.

On the plus side, the size meant there was room for everyone on our trip (9 adults and 10 children and 2 babies) to come in for a cuppa, and it remained waterproof despite some very heavy rain.

I am going to attempt some repairs this week, and we will give it another go in less windy weather !

PS this is the 4th time we have pitched this tent and it definitely gets easier to put in the bag each time

We bought this tent for an incredible £176 from Makro. Despite its size this is a simple tent to pitch. 5 fibreglass poles and you are up.

The 4m x 4m living area is spacious enough for relaxing out of the sun or keeping the kids entertained when its raining cats and dogs. The bedrooms complement this by comfortably (if not officially) accommodating 12 decent sized adults on 3 double air beds. There ARE NOT 4 bedrooms for this tent as described however. The vis-a-vis arrangement is 2 bedroom units with a curtain separating each onto the 4 bedrooms. The curtains can also be mounted in 2 possible positions inside the bedroom to either split it 50/50 or 70/30. The 'wall' in between each bedroom door has something in the region of 12 large storage pockets to put all your nicknacks. Each bedroom has a further 5 pockets inside on a side wall.

Zipped EHU access points into the tent are found on both sides of the tent with further zipped EHU access into each bedroom, which means no need to leave tent or bedroom doors open just to have electricity.

The 5000mm hydrostatic head is more than enough for the UK and was thoroughly tested on our first trip with it to the Lake District.

If there is any downside at all it is the current lack of carpet or footprint for this tent. Being a 2008 model tent I have no idea if there are any planned for this or not.

Manufacturer's Description

Every year we search for fibreglass framed family tunnel tents that offer lots of space, total comfort, plenty of features, quality materials and assembly but all at a sensible price; and this year the Meridian's win hands down! The living space of the Meridian 10 is a full 10m² and the bedrooms sleep 5 at each end of the tent in a 2+3 inner arrangement. The comfort is provided by virtue of the fully sewn-in groundsheet for a sealed internal environment and an external fibreglass frame to allow for flysheet first pitching. The quality materials include a fire retardant polyester flysheet offering 5000mm hydrostatic head protection. And, the features are headlined by the two large 'privacy windows'; hanging organiser pockets and the two large panel doorways which can be propped up to form a sun canopy (one pair of porch poles supplied).

Other features include: Welded and reinforced polyethylene groundsheet; water repellent zips (a boon for the incontinent); electric cable access point; multiple ventilation points along the roof line; pre-attached hi-viz guylines; 'slick sleeves' for easy pole threading; breathable polyester inner tents; 12.7mm fibreglass poles plus 2 steel porch poles.
