User Reviews of the Montana 6

Wonderful tent in both hot weather (Southern France) and the worst N Cornwall can throw at it. Would agree with other comments about the velcro fastening to the base of the 'front door' - it does let in rather a gale when a strong Atlantic gale is blowing, the 'sun' canopy in such circumstances is a godsend! We spent 2 wet&windy weeks in Cornwall (early Summer 2009) and saw many other campers give up and go home due to leaking or torn tents whilst we were dry secure - the size of the living area meant we had space to play and eat in comfort. Would recommend the outwell fan heater for such circumstances too! The design of the tent is very well thought out - the side entrance area is vital in poor weather for any number of purposes (storage, wet items, toilet/potty, additional ventilation). If camping in UK I would recommend the front extension rather than the sun canopy due to the additional wind/rain protection that affords. Footprint and carpet are a must too - for both cold and hot weathers (great insulation).

I have had this tent for about 3 months but only ever pitched it in a mates garden I pitched it in anger for the 1st time last week by myself and it took less then an hour to get it up and pegged If you watch the video on YuoTube then you can't go far wrong the only real problems I had was

1. The centre 2 poles which I could not get the pins in

So I found if I put the pin in one side then undid the bottom section of the pole on the other side put the pin in then levered the pole back together it seem to work a treat

2. On the day I was packing up to leave it was chucking it down and every time I opened the door the inside got soaked next time I will remember to use the porch entrance

And it did stand up too approx 8 hours of continuous heavy rain with just a couple of seam leaks (more like drips really) which will be repaired when it's dried out

I hope this tent lives up to it's fantastic reputation and lasts me a few years I might look around for a smaller weekend tent But I will always keep the Monty 6 for those longer breaks

Just need to convince the OH that I need a trailer to carry it now

Go on buy it you know you want too lol

Have owned a Montana 6 since 2006. It has stood two very windy summers in Cornwall when other units ripped and collapsed on their occupants. It took a 50 mph battering and heavy rain and there was no leak or damage. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

You need to watch the DVD to work out how to put it up etc first time but this tent once up is ample for a family of 4.

We've added the front extension which gives a better cooking area and the carpet for added warmth and luxury. The custom fit footprint helps keep the underside clean and dry and is worth a purchase if you can.

A good sturdy tent well worth the expense, if you're a family looking for a good value reliable tent then this is a SERIOUS contender

We bought this tent because of the amount of space that is provided and because the four of us (two adults two young children) could all sleep in one room because the two rooms can convert into one.

It has a sewn in ground sheet.

Room to stand up in both the sleeping area and living area. Two large doors, a porch door and four windows so we could let plenty of light and air in the tent. The doors and two of the windows have a mesh covers so you can let in air but stop the bugs.

A cable entry point, some sewn in pockets

We also brought a carpet that is especially made for the Montana 6 which made tent feel that extra bit more cosy.

We have had a couple of days in it in heavy rain and no water came into the tent. We shall be using this tent for a few more years yet!

A lovely quality tent, enjoyed every bit of staying in it this Summer. Easy to pitch and take down. It withstood some strong winds without us really even feeling a draught. The rain can come down on it all night and there's hardly a spot of water inside in the morning. Plenty of space and height, loads of ventilation and visibility. A good quality feel to the materials. Only downside was a zip on the main weather flap pulling apart. I wish they'd chosen a darker fabric for the sleeping pod end. Thoroughly recommended.

Fantastic tent. Loads of living space in the tent and also a huge bedroom. Great for two people as in our case. Could easy get two adults and two children sleeping in here no problem, maybe not anymore or might defeat the object. Great that you can open up windows in the tent to get air in. Our holiday was saved by this tent as it rained all week. Worth the money and worth buying the extension or the porch as well. Would recommend.

We've had our Montana 6 for two years now and used it eight or nine times in all weathers.

As mentioned in other reviews the extra side porch is one of its unique selling features. Some use it to store shoes, but we use it for our bucket toilet which saves late-night rainy dashes to the facilities with our children. The removable groundsheet is a godsend in case of spillages!

The sewn in groundsheet in the main body of the tent keeps it snug and warm even in strong winds. We also have the carpet for extra cosiness early or late in the season. The 'lip' on the doors seems a little annoying when children trip over it, but the tent remained dry even when a mini lake appeared underneath.

Also in its favour are steel poles. We have remained standing in high winds when other tents around us have packed up and gone home due to breakages. I originally resented the weight of the steel poles, but with experience I am glad of them. This year we bought the extension which means that we can now cook and eat outdoors, but still not get too wet.

It does have downsides. The front door doesn't zip across the bottom, so we use the mesh door to add stability. I imagine this will change soon as the 2009 version already has a better-designed side door. It is very difficult to fit back into its holdall - but I've since bought an extra large outwell bag and life is much easier. It also fits fits in the footprint groundsheet.

In all a good solid tent, perhaps a bit too much for a weekend but perfect for a UK family holiday - rain, hail, gales and all!

We love our tent. We use it from April til October in all weathers, which it takes in its stride. It can withstand strong winds, heavy rain and has plenty of ventilation in warm weather. It is easy to erect and fold down. After practise it is easy to get in its bag! It has plenty of room if there are two of you going on a 10 night vacation and if you are a family of four. I really can't fault it. Yes, the zips can be annoying but offer good protection against wind and rain. I would highly recommend this tent for the money, but please shop around. We were very lucky and paid £260 last June, so please shop around!

Purchased my first tent - Montana 6 in the sales 2008 in preparation for family holidays in 2009. Have to say that this site really helped a complete beginner like myself to research and choose an appropriate set up.

Just come back from our 4th camp this year and happily recommend the Montana. It suits our needs - 2 adults and 3 kids (8,8 and3) perfectly and has withstood the range of English weather extremely well.

The front extension allows us to cook and sit outside in all weathers and the carpet helps keep the tent warm on chilly evenings.

10 out of 10 overall for all the outwell gear I've purchased (table, kitchen, heater, sleeping bags). However, the tent gets 9 out of 10 due to the silly velcro design on the front and side doors (which has been mentioned by many other reviewers), plus I'd like to be able to leave the kids room up, but you can't remove the original bedroom pod. Perhaps this will be addressed in later models.

Wasn't keen on spending £500 for the complete set up initially, but like most things in life you do get what you pay for and the Montana has made our first year's camping really enjoyable. Looking forward to many more happy holidays in the monty.

We love our Montana. Just come back from a very windy week in Wales and tents around us were collapsing everywhere, poles snapping but our sturdy tent stood strong. We've done many weekends now and several longer holidays both in the UK and France and our tent really is home from home. Lots of space for us, 2 boisterous young boys and 2 jack Russells. We bought an ex display model and it's been a true bargain. Can see us getting many more years use out of it yet. Only downside is you need 2 adults to carry/erect - quite tricky at first but once you get the hang of it and follow your routine it goes up in about 20 minutes. Love the sown in groundsheet and the fact that the big bedrooms just pop up inside. Love the handy and numerous pockets to keep all those camping bits and bobs neat and tidy.

We use a cooker and cooker stand inside, a table large enough for us all to sit round, four chairs and a dog cage and there's still plenty of room to move around plus fit in cool boxes, food boxes etc. On sunny days the front porch opens up and is wide enough to give great views. On wet days we open the 'curtains to get great views and light and use the tradesman's entrance (as we call our side porch) which stops any wet getting inside. You can also put the tent up in the rain, safe in the knowledge that all will be bone dry inside. Side porch also great for storing shoes and a bucket for middle of the night widdles.

Lots of vents, windows, fly screens etc - only problem is that hubby seems to spend a lot of time fiddling with them, opening and closing them depending on varying weather conditions throughout the day!

All in all we love our tent. We've been through several before the Montana but will now stick with this one for as long as it lasts - which I suspect (and hope) will be quite some time.

This is the fifth tent we've had over about thirty years. We feel like we've moved forward a century. It's so much warmer and sturdier than anything we've owned before. We had every kind of bad weather you can think of, and did have to put it up and take it down in really strong winds (which we'd hoped wouldn't happen), and following the Yeoman guy's YouTube method we had no problems at all. With two of us (and occasional help from children) we could do it in about 15 minutes. Make sure you watch how to put it away as well as how to put it up.

We don't have car room for the footprint or the carpet, but didn't feel it was a problem. We use two picnic blankets to sit on, and they were enough. We did invest in the children's room - brilliant.

We haven't had a fully sewn in ground-sheet before, and were worried about ventilation, but if you use the velcro 'things' to keep the ventilation open, it's brilliant, less condensation than any of our previous tents, but not cold.

The side entrance has a 'rain porch' which we made good use of - stored all the shoes and boots out there and the inside stayed clean and dry.

Just spent 1 week in Cornwall and, despite the cloudy weather, enjoyed my stay in this luscious tent.

Copes with wind and rain with ease. The sun canopy and front extension are brilliant for shade and shelter. The bedroom pods are very big, and can fit the double bed that I have , with lots of room left for all my junk ļ. Lovely amount of living space to put cupboards and everything else. Overall, a tent that is highly recommended not just by me, but everyone else to have one. Definitely the perfect tent for me. Outwell have done extremely well to pull this beautiful creation off.

Awesome. Going to buy the extension & the carpet at end of this season.

Just come back from a week in Devon and the tent performed great. Especially as we had only put it up in the garden before.

Dealt with rain & wind with ease.

10 out of 10 for outwell.

I have also owned 2007 version of the Montana 6.

The 2009 Montana 6 has an improved Porch and inner door. I like all the Mesh window and door sections. When the weather is hot and sunny just roll up all the outer doors and windows and the tent keeps lovely and light and fresh.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Cornwall and very happy with the 2009 version.

I also followed the Yeomans video for erecting the Montana 6 and found it cut the time down by half on last year.

I agree that carpet is a must but I have 6 Grey 'Tesco Picnic Blankets'. 1 in each of the Bedrooms and 4 in the Living Area. Each Picnic Square can be picked up and taken outside to shake off crumbs/sand/grass.

Although only used by 2 adults, On days of poor weather there is plenty of room and light when all the inner windows are rolled up.

We have just returned from a very wet and windy 10 day trip to the highlands. The tent remained dry and stable. The only 'advice' I would give the less experienced user - which I am - is that the roof of the hanging sleeping area, which is 'clipped in', is damp in the morning with condensation and the tent needs specific airing of this area to remove the condensation even if the weather conditions are not good. I have noticed brown mottling (mould?) on the bedroom inner roof after the tent being used on only 5 separate occasions so far. I have endeavoured to thoroughly dry out the tent before putting it away.

I would also say that the front extension is a must as the tent slope is extreme at the front - but maybe the side door is supposed to be the main entrance?

I also have a ground footprint and a carpet which are great and worth buying.

Overall a great tent and highly recommended.

While there is not much that hasn’t already been said about the Montana 6 tent, we nevertheless feel that it is only appropriate to add our opinion. Therefore, having been “serious campers” for just three years now and during this time we have purchased as many tents, it was after great deal of deliberation and research that he decided to buy a Montana 6.

Well, we were certainly not disappointed, as for the old saying goes “you only get what you pay for”, and the Montana 6 is no exception. While this is quite an expensive and heavy tent, due to the steel poles, it is very well made and very sturdy, as the weather proved to be a real test on our first trip with this tent (July/August 2009) – torrential rain, strong winds, thunder and lightening and a wee bit of sunshine in-between. Needless to say, the Montana 6 stood up to all these conditions and without any question of doubt, we felt very safe, comfortable and secure.

Erecting the tent was pretty straightforward (although watching the video on You Tube prior to going certainly helped), and took us - two relatively strong adults – around 40 minutes to erect). The Montana 6 is large and very roomy, with great visibility due to the many windows and doors. In taking the tent down, this was again straightforward and with a little careful folding and rolling, we managed to get the tent back in the bag first time.

Our experience of using the Montana 6 was definitely enhanced by the use of the carpet and the front extension, which allowed us to cook and sit outside, as well as providing extra room. Therefore, we have to conclude that the Montana 6 is the best tent we have purchased to-date and plan to use it again in September for our next camping trip and hopefully many more after that. Believe the hype, it really is that good. Happy camping!

Just spent 10 days in this in all sorts of weather and cant fault it. Watched the Yeomans fellow pitching and use his method which makes pitching much easier, not too awkward to get back in it's bag either! Storm porch is brilliant. Plenty of ventilation and windows make it light. Footprint ground sheet is a must I think. Only thing we have against it is it's heavy!

By: Floggitt  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2009   Rating:   Date: 03/08/2009

Just back from our first trip and we are very pleased this is our second tent now. For us the quality is good design and layout really suit us, the front canopy is what makes this tent so special to use, can sit out side while its raining dogs can wait out there while they dry off, brilliant. Loads of space for us two. Raised Areobed king fits easily into the bedroom.

Best of all I love the all round low level windows. I didn't know till we used it this weekend that the side windows unzip and can be rolled right up you cant get more ventilation than that. Vents down both sides can be held open or shut with velco stay. Guy rope have velco so you can roll them up and secure for packing away. Zip have a strong feel to them. Tent feels strong in the wind, give lots of confidence that this tent will last us many years to come.

We were lucky enough to pitch on a caravan club CL (by invitation of the owner) A couple of caravanners admired the tent and just loved the space inside, and the carpet I think was the most surprising for them

By: Tickwhitt  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2009   Rating:   Date: 01/08/2009

We brought the Montana earlier this year at the tent show, along with the footprint and the carpet.

We have used it twice so far this year and have found it fantastic. Once you get used to putting it up and taking it down it doesn't take long at all.

The second time we used it it rained quite heavy but we found we had plenty of space inside to while away an afternoon.

The footprint and carpet add insulation and comfort, we hope to get the extension soon.

By: RedDragonTattoo  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2007   Rating:   Date: 22/07/2009

I wholeheartedly agree with all the positive feedback here. We bought our Montana 6 in 2007 and it is the tent that converted my five-star-loving wife to camping. She said she wouldn't go unless it was in a good tent and that is what we have in the Montana, in spades.

It's straightforward to erect and once up it seems solid as a rock, we've been lucky with the weather so far but I wouldn't be worried by anything. My wife is only 5'2' and she struggled a bit on the opposite side BUT check out the YouTube video of the dude from Yeomans putting it up on his own - from now on , we're doing it THAT way! (Maybe not as fast, though.) I reckon I could do it solo - next year on our Dads' weekend I'll be taking both boys (7 & 3) and the Montana, giving me and No1 son a break from the confines of our Khyam Calgary 4.

The tent is very strong and well made, that said the porch mesh door did split on our first trip due to the porch pole putting too much tension on it, but our retailer got a replacement outer from Outwell with no problem. The new one has been fine. I'm going to take a hacksaw to the porch pole and take 1cm off each end to try to reduce the tension. I've had a look at a new M6 and the support cups for the pole seem to have been redesigned since we bought ours so I reckon more modern ones would not have this issue.

The sleeping compartment is perfect for us four, taking a Coleman double airbed and two singles easily. We even put a full size travel cot up in it when No2 son was smaller, but he was more cosy on an airbed with Dad.

The whole tent has great headroom (I'm 6'0) and the living area is very spacious. The storage pockets on the outside of the bedroom compartment are very useful. Ventilation is very good with lots of options windows- and door-wise.

I've just bought the footprint groundsheet and itching for a chance to try it out, I suppose I'd better wait for it to stop raining first.

I've become a bit of a tent geek and been checking out lots of others but I haven't seen any that are better for our purposes and budget.

By: Adamcolly  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2008   Rating:   Date: 22/07/2009

EXCELLENT! This tent is so much better than the tunnel tents which we had in the past. It is so strong when erected and it is also easy to get up we can do it in about 30 mins. We would not change it for the world. As I have seen in other reviews people having problems getting it back into the bag but with a little practice it becomes easier.

The thick metal posts make it so sturdy its excellent that is all I can really say about it!

We also have the kids bedroom which the boys love and the footprint and carpet which makes it feel like your at home!

We purchased a Monty in spring 2008 after our old tent (an old but sturdy canvas Cabanon) was slightly damaged in Barmouth during the horrendous winds over the early bank holiday weekend. Having seen the poor performance of the modern bendy pole domes, I wanted to have a similar, but updated version of the old fashioned canvas frame tent. After much deliberation we bought the Monty; and what an excellent decision. Used it on 4/5 weekends since, and we haven't been disappointed. Large and airy, dry and warm. I recommend it to anyone wanting a sturdy family tent. I note from some of the rveiews that people have complaints about certain issues:-

1. It is heavy! what do you expect when you buy a tent with metal poles. That is one of the reasons the tent appealed to me. It is not as if you are going to be backpacking with the tent! Far better to have metal poles and feel secure at night when the wind blows, as opposed to worrying if the fibreglass bendy poles are going to survive.

2 The front door leaks; we have found that as long as you do up the full length zip, it doesn't leak. You then use the porch entrance to keep the rain out of the main tent.

3 The bag is too small; agreed the tent is a snug fit, but it does go in; we get the kids to play rolly poly on it to push the air out as we roll it up. If the bag was bigger you would then get more complaints saying it takes up too much space in the car!

All in all a great tent.

By: Rexy Rex  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2009   Rating:   Date: 15/07/2009

We are novice campers who have used the tent once. We found putting it up was logical, it took us an hour but we were unfamiliar with the kit. There were no problems with putting it up or taking it down. Well I say that, we put it up and were congratulating ourselves when the wind caught it and we had a sail on our hands. We wisely gave in at that point and started again by collapsing the tent rather than battling the wind. The time taken to erect the tent excludes that little diversion.

The sleeping area did not feel very cosy because of the height of the tent. It was a very good size though. Likewise for the 3 of us the living area felt huge, but that was good. Next time we'll take our billiard table.

On a hot day the tent was not pleasant to be in, even with all the doors open. On a cool night we also needed to wrap up well in bed. The next morning it got hot again quickly. But we are novice campers and perhaps we were expecting it to be insulated like a house.

There were various options for covering the windows which was good, but tying any of them up was a bit fiddly, not a big problem but some velcro would have speeded things up.

Not having a zip at the bottom of the doors is a weakness as others have said. We used the footprint which was excellent.

So far I've only tried this tent out in my back garden - the real test comes in three weeks time when we go to France, but so far I am very impressed with it.

Learning how to put up the tent and take it down takes quite a bit of time. Rather than following the instructions Outwell give - which I found not very helpful, a much easier way of pitching the tent & taking it down can be found on Youtube. These videos show that it is in theory possible to pitch this tent in around 10 minutes by yourself - but it takes me & my wife much longer than that!

Getting the tent back in its back takes a bit of practice, but it once you know how to do it, it is fairly straight forward.

We had the tent up during some torrential monsoon like rain, and the tent stayed bone dry, and draft free. The sown in ground sheet works a treat, and helps keep out the midges.

I've also purchased the front extension, which I think is worth having. It obviously enlarges the tent, and gives you a sheltered place to cook & eat, which is especially helpful if it is raining.

All in all, it's a very good tent, and one I would recommend - certainly everyone I have spoken to rates it very highly.

With camping in Britain I think you need a well made tent. This Outwell Montana 6 is perfect for this country. We've recently camped in high winds and it really stood it's ground, I was really impressed at how sturdy it was. Inside the space is perfect, the inner tent (sleeping compartments) are a perfect size. The living area is the same too. Also, you can get decent extras for this tent. I've been to quite a few camping shows and this is the only tent that stands out as being home from home. It's a comfortable size, it's not too small which may cause a problem with how much stuff you've got to put in it, and it's not too big that it looks like you need 4 people to actually put it up.

This tent is perfect for those just starting out camping and for those that have been doing it for a long time but want a better tent. Overall, it's a great all-rounder. I would recommend this Outwell Montana 6 to anyone because I love it.

We have 3 young children (8, 5 and 3 years) and after much deliberation we bought this as our first family tent. I didn't want the children in separate pods at different ends of the tent (I know ! my husband thinks it's ridiculous too) so the large bedroom chamber that can be divided into 2 was perfect.

2 air beds fit in one chamber for us and in the 2nd chamber a double + a single self inflating mattress for the 3 children.

The living area is spacious with lots of light - enough room/height for us all to sit and eat/move around if the weather is not good.

We have bought the ground sheet and I am considering buying the extension for future trips to hotter climates.

So far we have only camped on the South and West Wales coast but it has already passed the wind and rain test.

I certainly would not be able to put it up alone but 2 adults should manage in about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

We had difficulties at the beginning but we now manage to get the tent back into its carry-bag (after watching the Outwell video).

We love it.

We bought our Montana in June 2007 and it has now had 4 outings. The first was a dismally wet & windy week in Tenby which this tent stood up to amazingly. I've never felt so safe in a tent, you just know it won't leak or blow away.

It's roomy too. During that wet week we had 4 adults, 1 teenager and a crawling baby in the living space!

This tent is a doddle to pitch, all within the hour, the only criticism we have is the struggle to get it back in the bag, but we're getting better at it now we've got the knack of folding it.

Truly brilliant tent, recommended

Second Outwell we have owned, ideal layout for us, 2 adults, 1 teenager, very light inside, plenty of room in main area for cooking, eating, lazing about etc.

Definitely needs two adults to put up, possibly 3 in windy conditions. Far superior to The Vango we had. The small porch could be slightly higher, & we found the zip hard to get at,due to the steep angle the door is at (6ft adult & child!) but no such problems once inside. Very good indeed.

Our first tent for 15 years and we are more than pleased with it. 2 young children who were happy to play inside and there was enough room for all of us to relax and play board games. The porch was very useful for keeping wet shoes etc, although I agree with everyone else that the poles for the porch seemed too long and rested on the side of the tent, a better design or solution is needed. We found pitching and packing up easy although the wind almost turned us into a balloon when packing up, but that's part of the fun! Excellent tent and would recommend to anyone.

We have recently brought the Montana 6 and used it for the first time last week. This tent is excellent ! It slept 2 adults and 3 children comfortably and stood up to strong winds and rain. Very easy to put up and take down and the footprint groundsheet is good as an extra and so is the carpet , it gives the tent a warm feel. This tent is light and airy and has plenty of space and room to move around. Definitely worth the initial outlay.

We are really happy with our Montana 6 which we bought after a lot of research and reading the reviews on this site. It is a large tent and absolutely meets the needs of a couple with 2 kids.

It is relatively easy to put up - it takes us 45 minutes. We have had no problems getting it back in the bag - the you tube video from yoemans camping helped here. A sturdy well made tent - one of our poles (cable connected 2 sections) came apart when we were packing up - but nothing a pair of long nosed pliers and a screwdriver could not fix

2 large pods and a good sized living area gives us lots of space. The porch is useful for cooking on windy days. Lots of storage space too.

I would also recommend the footprint groundsheet as it keeps the bottom of the tent clean as well as adding a bit more insulation.

We have now had 2 trips away with this tent and have of course had rain and high winds - the tent is very stable and had not leaked at all. We probably will get the canopy for next year - I know that many recommend the carpet but it would get dirty with kids.

All in all a fantastic tent - I would recommend it fully

We bought our Monty last year and it is the best tent we have bought. We have the footprint, carpet and recently purchased the front extension. What a god's send! The 'kitchen' is now outside and it gives so much protection against wind & rain that we leave the 'front door' open and are still snug inside. We echo what others have said about the bottom of the front entrance though, hence the 9 / 10. The first time we used it the rain came in at the bottom of the 'door', we have been meaning to attach more velcro strips but luckily the weather has been with us so it has not been required just yet. I should imagine now we have the extension that we won't bother with that now. It has stood up to gales and heavy rain and doesn't budge! Mind you, when packing away in the wind it was like a parachute but I think we have perfected the art of that :-). If anyone has trouble putting it up or packing away there are some helpful 'how-to' videos on YouTube.

Thoroughly recommend this tent, we bought ours having sold a caravan that we only used twice as there wasn't enough room in it.

Have just used our tent (April 09) for the first time and were very pleased with it. Easy to put up and take down (my husband even did it on his own to dry it out in garden).

Plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 children.

We used the footprint groundsheet which protected the tent from the mud.

Stood up to gale force winds and heavy rain - felt much safer than any previous tent we have used.

Our only niggle was the lack of a zip across the bottom of the main entrance - probably not a problem in the summer but was a litte drafty in the April evenings.

The layout of the tent is excellent. Plenty of windows prevent you feeling too 'shut in' even when sheltering from the great british weather.

The whole family is looking forward to using the tent in the summer (even me who previously has been a very reluctant camper - don't think any other tent would have converted me!)

We bought this tent in June 2008 before going away with friends for our first camping experience.

What we found was a very easy to erect tent with good use of space internally. We also bought the kids room which replaces the right hand side (looking at them) bedroom and is great for the kids to play in as it comes with 3 soft balls and a net to make a good 'throw through the hole' ball game.

We have now been away twice in UK and once in France with the tent and found it very versatile. We have also recently purchased the front extension which I would recommend to anyone else as it adds great space in front of the tent which can be used for cooking or relaxing out of any rain you might have.

Make sure that if you're camping on any roots etc that you get a groundsheet though as otherwise you might wear through the SIG very quickly. Ours has lots of white patches where the colour has rubbed off the inside of the SIG already, although it hasn't worn through.

Overall, 8/10 so far

By: Lizard99  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2006   Rating:   Date: 30/01/2009

Firstly I agree this is an excellent tent.

But.

1)Ours had a couple of faults on seam sealing - easily fixed when the weather is dry with sealant - but shouldn't happen

2)The tent is hard to put up in high winds but that's probably to be expected

3)The porch support pole seems to have been a design afterthought and presses against the main tent. Surely a better solution is needed

4)The front door should have a zip across the bottom to prevent wind driven water ingress

5)The walls slop at such a steep angle it is hard to open windows on the outside. You have to slip your feet under the edge of the tent.

Just niggles except for the porch support pole design

Would have preferred the $ but they stopped making it !

This tent is FANTASTIC. Having only used the tent once at the end of August 2008, I hope that it doesn’t now go all wrong. Our family of three went with several other family and friends (6 tents) to the Dorset south coast.

Setting up was a ‘doddle’ and manageable by two though more will make it even easier. This was done in around an hour. I do recommend some better quality tent pegs. The ones that come with it are ok but we are dealing with the great British weather here and stony ground. It helped to give us peace of mind.

The tent is very roomy and airy. The window options are amazing and were one of the great selling points. The tent feels ‘bullet proof’ and invincible. The many anchor points are strengthened and durable. The tent held up to some dodgy weather (we packed down in the rain) and we were comfortable and warm. The fitted carpet is definitely worth the investment and some of our party are looking into one for their tent or even replacing their tent for a Montana. A disappointment is the front/main entrance. The bottom is Velcro and not zipped. This seems crazy (why 9/10 and not 10/10) as the rest of the tent is very well designed. (You even have a thermometer!) As the front slopes, you have to make sure that it is properly in place as it will leak in the rain and the wind does come in. Other users suggest more Velcro. We will be going for a front extension which will hopefully make life easier here. It will also be a good place to cook and be outside in poor weather. The two bed rooms are good for two in each though if you leave the partition, there is plenty of room for one or two more. A nice touch is the organiser and various pockets for putting things in.

We didn’t have a footprint groundsheet (this will also be rectified next year) as when packing down in the rain, the mud was making life a little tricky. It has got to be easier to clean the sheet rather than the tent. Packing down and fitting the tent in the bag wasn’t a problem as we practised this before setting off. (Remember to leave a couple of zips open so the air can escape).

Would I buy another? You bet! To summarise the Montana is comfortable, strong and versatile and the many reviews should help to make your mind up if you are in the market for a new tent.

The tent is great as most of the reviews will tell you.I have a front extension on mine as well as the front canopy which gives you acres of outside space even when its raining you can sit outside in comfort. To add the canopy to the extension I just loop the guy ropes through one another which also doubles as a washing line. I then box it all in with two matching windbreaks its like Buckingham Palace. As we have the cover at the front the covered side porch makes a great spot to put the porta loo for those 4 oclock in the morning moments when you have after drinking stella round the barbie all night. A great tent easy to put up a bit hard to get back in the bag you need to get all the air out but other than that I would recommend this tent in fact I have my sister has the same rig when we go camping together its an impressive sight.

Just returned from a week in Newquay in the Monty 6. Its quite simple really, BUY ONE. It's easy to erect. Doesn't leak. Stays where it should it strong winds. Plus, with the addition of the carpet and front extension, its a really comfy and practical tent. Things I've learnt are:

1) Take time to get all the tensioning of straps and ropes right for the profile of the pitch

2) Invest in some decent storm pegs

3) Watch the storm porch aluminium pole end caps. Don't tension too tight (you could cut the length down or I use a plastic puck on each end, borrowed from my motorbikes side stand, to spread the load)

4) Add a couple of additional velcro pads to the front door bottom edge.

5) Use a footprint ground sheet to keep the tent clean.

6) Be careful when dismantling the poles. The retaining springs are easy to pop out.

In summary, a great tent with extremely useful accessories.

Just love the tent; just come back from the lakes, and we have had the weather you have read about, real nasty.

But I will still be going up again in ten days time and I am sure that my Montana 6 will do the biz.

We had to put it onto a hard standing as our welly wonderland was just MUD; this was no prob as long as you have the right pegs. Read the comment on the doors, and quite agree about having full zips as you don't always have the window net down.

We got round this by fixing self adhesive Velcro right across the bottom of the doors, now no prob, BUT! although I have cut off 3cm from the side entrance ridge pole as directed it still presses too hard on the side of the tent ,any tips. As I dont want the rubber protector to come through the tent.

I love this tent. It was VERY windy when we pitched it recently, but it went up quickly (between squally showers) and with relative ease. It stood up extremely well to constant wind and torrential rain. The colour is good; our last tent was a dour blue which we found quite oppressive in bad weather. The Montana's green and grey is much more acceptable. We have now mastered returning it to it's carry-bag and look forward to many more camping trips in years to come.

Just switched to a Montana 6 after using a Vango Diablo 600. This is a much more versatile tent and is great for the family (2 adults, 2 children)to sit in on cooler evenings, it seems to be a lot warmer than the Diablo. It gets an all round thumbs up from all the family and we are looking forward to next season to get a carpet for the living area. Overall a great tent, simple to put up (i can do it on my own) simple to take down and easy to get in the bag after doing once. It loses marks because of all the separate bags for poles/pegs etc and also a couple of pole retaining springs have broken on the first outing.

This is the second season we've used the Montana 6 and have just returned from a very washed out week in Cornwall. While others suffered in the high winds with loose pegs, poles and leaks our Montana stood up exceptionally. I agree with the comments about returning it to it's bag. Best done in the calm of a large aircraft hanger but failing that waiting for a windless evening on the front lawn makes for good viewing by the neighbours if nothing better than the Olympic on the TV.

As everyone else has said brill tent, we had a couple of niggles, the bag containing tent had a screw missing and the pole bag was not sewn up properly, but outwell are replacing these. One other thing a tagle which holds up the window came off, but we have sewn that back on. In use its as per every other report big warm and with the carpet cony. Again as per, getting it in bag is interesting, but watch the Outwell video on their website and all becomes clear.

The old saying, 'you get what you pay for' certainly rings true with this tent. Everything about it oozed quality. A great sturdy tent with solid poles and substantial zips on the doors and windows. The luminous guy ropes and tabs on the zips make finding your way around inside and outside in the dark much easier. Quite a hefty tent to pitch but worth the effort especially when the gales howl and the wind lashes against it without any problems. Although the description states 6 berth I think a family of four is where it's at, any more and you may feel cramped. The bedroom pods both comfortably hold king size beds and had handy pockets in for storing mobile phones, glasses etc at night. There is bags of living space and with a side porch too (which we actually use as our toilet tent!) Plenty big enough for a table and chairs as well as camp kitchen and wardrobe although the extension is a useful piece of kit as an add on. The sewn in ground sheet makes a huge difference when the temperature drops and we stayed warm and dry even in some really bad storms. My only criticism is that for a tent so HUGE I feel delta pegs are a must as the pegs provided were as useful as a chocolate teapot when the wind got up. My other gripe was that the front and side door both had zips either side with velcro tabs across the bottom, I would like to have seen the zip go across the bottom too for total draught exclusion although there's probably a good reason this isn't the case. All in all it's a fab high quality tent which I have no regrets about buying and hopefully will last some time as it seems VERY sturdy.

By: Rexer  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2008   Rating:   Date: 20/08/2008

This is a fabulous tent. It has a huge amount of space and is perfect for a family of 3. It is really well made and we had no leaks despite it raining constantly on our camping trips to Wales. The outside pockets on the bedrooms are really useful and the Sewn-in Ground sheet is excellent. We found the porch very useful for keeping our toilet in.

The main downside is that the front door of the tent is sloping so if you have it open and it starts to rain you have to close it otherwise water will come in the tent. However this is easily solved by adding the brilliant extension.

The steel poles are also really difficult to pull apart when you are packing it away and so we already have some broken connectors (though they are only there to keep the poles together when packed so no big problem and they can be repaired easily by our local camping shop where we bought it)

I think that with the extension this tent is just about as perfect as a tent can be.

Is it wrong to fall in love with a tent?

Maybe we need to get out more but not camping, obviously!

Amazing tent, went to Old Oaks, Glastonbury for 2 weeks, it did a great job of keeping us nice and dry :-)

Would highly recommend this tent. The porch/side entrance to the tent is great as you can leave your dirty wellies/shoes in there without them filling up with water.

By: RibTime  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2008   Rating:   Date: 16/08/2008

I won't repeat the plaudits given by everyone else as I agree with them, it is a great tent rather I'll mention the things I didn't like.

1) Having owned a Vango Colorado 800 DLX before I was surprised how big and heavy this tent was. It comes in a big heavy bag and the poles come in another bag as well.

2)Having spoken to a few other people they seem to mention snapped poles when putting the tent up. I can confirm there is a lot of tension on the poles while you erect the tent.

3) The front entrance doesn't zip completely shut. The bottom part of the door just has three velcro patches to keep it shut and therefore will let win and rain in, if the direction is right

4)The pole that fits into the porch entrance, which intern sits in plastic holders, pushes against the tent quite a lot. I have seen mention on this site about rips being caused.

Don't get me wrong this is a great tent but not without faults. Watch the 'putting-up' and 'packing-away' video's on YouTube they are a great help. When I came to put the tent up for the first time I was happy I new which order to do things in.

I also purchased with this tent.

1) Front Extension. In my view this is an essential piece of kit. It rained a lot while we used the tent and without it cooking would have been impossible. A MUST HAVE

2) The Kids Room. My boy loved this and to be honest I was quite jealous. If you have young children they will really appreciate you getting this.

3) Ground Sheet. Well worth it to keep the tent clean.

4) Carpet. It's ok but can't say I felt like I was living in Buck House.

In summary fantastic tent that is well made and has lots of nice features, but boy is it heavy. Erecting the tent is very easy, putting it away is a real task and will take a few attempts to get it right.

First upgrade from a old canvas Cabanon must say what a great choice. First go at erecting it was hard until the other half told me instructions were sewn in the bag.

We spent 4 days in a very wet Clitheroe it did nothing but rain from Friday to Monday and at one stage a lightning storm. Glad to say the Monty held out with no signs of water in the tent and our comfort went un interrupted. Went up the road and bought the sun canopy so we could carry on cooking outside it was so easy to add on it took minutes.

Over all very impressed one down side was getting it back in the bag but after three goes at home we got it.

Just returned from my first camping trip for 13 years, and after reading the reviews here went for the Montana 6. I wasn't disappointed! We didn't have bad weather to test the tent, but I was amazed at the venting options and mozzy nets, they really are useful to keep the tent cooler in hot weather and keep the insects out. Although the tent went up easily enough, I found the porch tricky first time until I found the plastic cups they mentioned in the instructions. This tent is really huge for 3 people and my sister in law refers to it as the 'Tag Mahal'. All in all it feels like quality and if you are a bit afraid of camping, a tent like this lets you in gently!

Just returned from our first holiday with the Montana 6, having previously owned the Sun Valley 8. What a fantastic Tent the Montana is, I love it, easy to put up, bit difficult to get in the bag, but that will be fine with a bit more practise, we already had carpet, footprint sheet etc, so it is just like a home from home, and the side porch is invaluable for a bathroom ! Going away again next week, and cant wait, we had some tremendous rain in Dorset, and the tent still stayed dry & warm, seemed less drafty then the Sun Valley 8. Would definitely recommend this tent to anyone

Just returned from a very wet week in Cornwall, First time we have used the Montana and was surprised how quick it was to erect the video was useful. We had a narrow pitch and ended up using the side door not the porch door as entry access, the dog sheltered under this on the only sunny day we had.We bought all the accessories the sun canopy a must for cooking especially in the rain, The carpet I laughed at when I first heard about it but wouldnt be without. We bought a kamp khazi which was a godsend during several rainy nights. All in all if you love camping with a few home comforts you cant go wrong with the Montana, gonna try France next year and hope for a bit of sun

Just used ours for the first time and we really tested it! camped on the beach (nearly) we were really open to the elements, it was really windy and rainy but the tent never failed us. On a night we were sat inside and was really warm. We dont have the carpet but dont feel we need it as we dont play on the floor now as the girls are teenagers. The footprint made it feel warmer and we also used the side bit for our invaluable khampa khazi. The only thing I found annoying with the tent was all the zips to get in and out, I appreciate the design but getting in and out it just seemed like zip city, however this only a small snag and like I said it has design in mind. We have the extension which was great, we sat in there to and watched the rain as we cooked tea. Although not the cheapest tent around I do think it is worth every penny. Loads of room loads of space bedrooms fantastic due to height all in all 4 happy campers.

Great tent. We couldn't decide whether to get the Montana 6 or the Idaho and eventually went for the Montana - I couldn't be more pleased. Great headroom - even in the bedrooms, so nice to be able to standup to get changed. We use the side porch for a toilet which is really handy. Lots of space in the living room so when you bring the table and chairs inside there is still plenty of room for kids to play on the floor etc. We also got the carpet which is lovely - makes such a difference. Hubby wasn't convinced beforehand but now is a total convert. We also got the kids room, which was very popular and a great buy. We bought the extension when we got the tent but have only used the tent once and as the weather was so great and had more than enough space we didn't put it up. But it will be great in poorer weather and for a longer holiday. The footprint groundsheet is excellent - keeps the tent nice and clean. I would recommend this tent to families - we have two kids and there is more than enough space. Other families we met really admired it and their kids couldn't wait to get in to play in the kids room. Really love it!

Just returned from our first camping experience with the Outwell Monty 6 and what a pleasure it was. We took a while deciding whether it was worth the extra money to go for this tent and are now convinced we made the correct choice.

The tent is relatively straight forward to erect and put away with two of you (although the youtube video proves it can be done by one). Before we went we made sure we could put it up and down in the back garden which also served to check everything was present.

Buying the ground sheet for the tent meant the tent could be packed away from the camp site without having to get it out to clean it again and just the ground sheet needing cleaning when we got home.

The tent is very spacious with plenty of windows and doors for light to enter. The tent feels like a quality product with all the seams and zips feeling very secure. We loved it and can't wait to get out in it again.

We bought our Montana 6 last year and used it in Northumberland. Unfortunately the holiday ended early due to 17hours continuous rain with no let up forecast (yes we're lightweights) but when we took the tent up were amazed to find about 3 inches of water beneath us. The footprint and the carpet meant, as other reviews have said, that we were dry and snug inside the tent. This year in hot weather we found the tent comfortable for entertaining up to 5 others (along with our 4 dogs) inside and outside, and a number of evenings with extra tables up for 4 adults playing board games. We did struggle initially getting the tent back into the bag but hope we've cracked it now. Would not swap this tent with anyone - we dream about escaping to go sway and stay in it. It is everything you could hope for, with many thoughtful features on top. Brilliant!

Used the monty 6 for the first time last August when we went to Essex, very impressed with the size and how well it coped with the weather. We bought the footprint and carpet at the same time and we soon found our monty 6 very cosy. Lots of use and abuse by scouts and visitors, with lots of interest shown, no leaks or problems in all weather. Fits into bag with practice. Highly recommended.

We've had the Montana 6 since the end of last season and have done two weekends camping in it including one of the wettest and windiest bank holidays I can remember - without issue. This is a very roomy, well made tent with many thoughtful features and manufactured to an excellent standard.

Some of the key features include: 6'6' headroom throughout (I'm 6'2' and really noticed having to stoop in our previous tent for all but a small part of its layout); small weather sealed side entrance - great in the rain and wind; thoughtful 3+3 bedroom layout - ideal for a couple camping in luxury - one bedroom for sleeping the other for clothing etc; three entrances in total means that you should get great thru flow of air in warm weather, though we've yet to test this theory; very sturdy pole setup - I can't believe I saw a review elsewhere which said that poles BROKE in high wind, these things are pretty much nuke-proof, manufactured in galvanized 1' steel tube.

This tent it is relatively straightforward to pitch, even though physically quite demanding due to its weight - unquestionably a two person job.

Downsides include the weight of this beast and the size of it when transporting. We own a large estate car and have no kiddies or pets to transport so it's not really a problem for us, but in a smaller vehicle or without folded rear seats we'd probably have to do without a few of the more luxury items that we're used to when camping. I can also imagine that on sites where pitches aren't so generous you may have trouble keeping within your boundaries.

I've heard of leakage issues with this tent, but suffice it to say that having encountered conditions where I'd be perfectly forgiving of any tent letting in a few drips, we encountered none!

All in all our fist experiences are extremely favourable and I genuinely expect to get many years of service from this tent, such is the quality of manufacture and the attention to detail in terms of reinforcement at stress points, duty of poles and fabrics etc.

It has been said that the Montana 6 is a home from home, and I took this quote with a pinch of salt, until we got our Montana 6 and went camping in it.

The Outwell Montana feels sturdy, the windows around the living area bring in so much light, so even on dark days it still feels nice and bright within the tent. It also warms the tent up a treat on sunny days. Having the different options on the windows is great, having either the windows open, just the fly net, or all closed with a cover acting as a curtain in the evening for privacy.

The bedrooms are a good size, and can be made into one large room, or one of the rooms unzipped can give you more living area if needed.

The sewn in ground sheet makes all the difference in stopping the chill getting in of an evening and with all the vents around the tent, you do not get much condensation, even on wet days.

Because the Montana 6 can be put up in one go, even in the worse rain (as we had) we were able to put it up with only a few drips of rain inside around the doors in the end.

The storage pockets both within the bedrooms and the large pockets in the living area were very handy, and the children loved the small bed windows, which you can unzip in the morning while still laying in bed to see how the weather is.

We also brought and used the footprint and carpet. You can feel the difference having the footprint underneath and it did save the bottom of the Montana getting muddy. The carpet is pure luxury. It was lovely being able to walk around the tent in bear feet and for the kids to sit on the floor to play.

I can't wait for our next trip in our Montana 6, and I would highly recommend this tent.

Just had our first camp in the Montana 6 - surprisingly easy to erect and take down (although watched the you tube vids first) only a couple of tiny gripes - the zip flaps are a bit flappy and you have to take care not catch them in the zippers and it could do with an entry point for the hook up at the back and the other side to the porch. That said this tent is as close to perfection I have seen and look forward to many more trips.

Having tried a cheap tent from ebay and got the camping bug we have bought the Monty 6 and tried it this weekend.

Awesome!

Everything has been said in previous reviews so not much more to add.

A definite must is the footprint & the carpet, there arent many tents you can walk around in bare feet without feeling the cold!

We bought this tent this year after seeing our friends Montana 4. We decided the Montana 6 would give us a little extra space.

Wow. What a fantastic tent.

Our first weekend away in the tent was a very. Very wet one. It rained putting the tent up and continued for the remainder of the weekend.

It was easy to put up (even in the rain)and quick and easy to take down.

The SIG is fantastic and keeps the water and bugs out. The windows let in lots of light and makes the tent feel even bigger than it already is. The extra things on it like the storage pockets and zip opening for the EHU is great. The porch was a fantastic especially with the rain (somewhere to keep muddy wellies!)

The bedrooms are great especially because you can have them as two separate bedrooms but unzip them into one if you want.

The extras you can buy for the tent are also fantastic - Footprint Groundsheet is a must. Extension - great idea.

I can't recommend this tent enough. So much infact some friends of ours have been and bought one last weekend after being so impressed with ours.

Fantastic Tent!

We replaced a Vango Diablo 600xp with one of the Montana 6's complete with the extension and after spending last week in it I can definitely say it is the best tent I have ever used. Putting it up is simple, though in strong winds it can be quite tricky, 2 pairs of hands are a minimum! but once up it really is the next best thing to home you can get. The windows are superbly thought out, you have curtains, mosquito nets and the option to roll up the windows to let the air in, which is invaluable when returning from a day out to a very hot tent. The extension provides a very good amount of covered space too, which we used for the kitchen and for chilling out at night, besides which it means you can sit outside even if its raining. My only criticism is of the side porch, which other than for storing wet boots is too small to be of any use really.

Overall this tent is absolutely fantastic, its not cheap though, for the tent and extension it cost us £429, but its most certainly money well spent and we hope to get many years out of it.

Just returned from 1st trip with our new Monty 6 what a tent have to agree with all the reviews here on how fantastic it is. Having upgraded from a smaller tent found putting up and packing away very easy taking less time so more time to chill. The SIG makes living in the tent great being free from draughts and the window and doors are very versatile being able to open them and have the fly screen still shut to stop the bugs, speaking of the windows the tent feels very airey with all the curtains open and the front door gives you a feeling that you are sat outside. Can't recommend this tent enough can't wait to get out in it again.

Our Monty 6 is in its 3rd year now and is fab. We are a family of 4 with 2 young children and it is just a brilliant tent. We originally had the canopy and have now upgraded to the front extension - would highly recommend. Unfortunately on its last outing the canopy poles gave way to some severe B/H winds and snapped, shredding the canopy at the same time. It has taken a battering - winds, rain - we mostly camp in North Yorks and Lakes so need a tent that can withstand the weather - this can!

We bought a carpet for it last year and it is brilliant, takes the chill off the ground and with young kids means you can happily play on the floor.

Some of the elastic ties on the bedrooms are coming away and the spring loading on poles are failing - both are easily sorted and also easily lived with.

Packing it is easy once you get the knack - we have created the rolling on the tent game to squeeze the air out with our kids.

We put it up in torrential rain this weekend - not a problem, tent up in 20 mins - kids inside and once we had all the guys pegged out we all were dry inside.

Thoroughly recommend this tent after 2 years of considerable use I wouldn't change it for anything else.

This is the best tent we have bought by far. The sewn in groundsheet is great, an end to rain trickling in and the odd breeze. The windows are great for letting in so much extra light and the option of just leaving the insect nets down if you want to let some fresh air in is great too. I also like the way the bedrooms can be made into one large sleeping area as having two little ones means we all sleep together and have a good nights sleep. The porch area is a good idea especially when raining as you get to leave your messy shoes in that area before going into the main living area where we have the outwell carpet which fits perfectly and makes the living area more snug and cosy. It took us slightly longer than expected to pitch this but I'm sure with plenty of practice we'll get much quicker. There are also lots of extra you can add onto this tent such as a carpet, extension, canopy, kids bedrooms, which means it can grow with your family's needs too.

We bought the Montana 6 and returned to camping after 15 years. The tent is easy to pitch in mild weather, but our outing in late May, we found that in strong wind, you need more than 2 pairs of hands to hold the intial poles up whilst putting the guy ropes in. The rest of the tent went up easy after that. After a few attempts, we did get the hang of packing the tent away in the bag it came from - the video definitely helped! Whilst it is a tight squeeze to get it back in the bag it came out of, once in it does take up less storeage space.

The tent was excellent in strong winds and heavy rain - not one ounce of rain came in or damage done - unlike some other tents on the site! The rain porch was hand and enabled us to leave wellies outside the main living area. One small grip is the zips on the rain porch seem to snag very easily.

We are looking forward to more camping trips this year and whilst wish for the sun and outdoor living, we would not have any worries if the weather turned against us again.

We have just bought our monty 6 and used it for the first time this month. It is easy to put up and has full head height throughout. The bedrooms can be unzipped to form one very large bedroom. As we have two small children this option was very handy for us.

There is plenty of room inside the tent to sit around a table and eat, play games etc. The handy cable inlet point means it is easy for EHU too. There are small zipped arches in the bottom of each of the bedrooms which means you can feed electrical items such as lights into the bedrooms. My husband has a cpap breathing machine so this was really useful as it meant he zip up the bedroom door and still have the power supply in the bedroom.

We also bought the monty 6 extension which is worth its weight in gold. It meant we could sit outside even if it was raining and it was great to cook outside but still stay dry.

The SIG makes such a difference to the warmth of the tent. There were no drafts at all and once our gas light was on in the evenings it heated up really nicely.

Outwell provide useful storage pockets in the middle of the tent and also three in each of the bedrooms for putting in your torch, mobile phone etc.

The first time we put the tent up we have awful problems getting it back in the bag. Since we watched the utube video from yeoman's outdoors we have had not trouble at all!

The side porch is really good place for a porta potti as it is completely closed off from the rest of the tent. I would also recommend the footprint groundsheet as it keeps the bottom of the tent clean as well as adding a bit more insulation.

Used Montana 6 for the first time Easter W/E in Mid Wales -Sleet Snow Gales Rain. Tent withstood everything the weather chucked at it.

Spent 8 nights in Dorset in May. Two over 50's pitched the tent very slowly but to get the tent back in the bag - we open all doors, lay the tent flat then fold the tent lengthways about 12/15 inches continue folding across the width - then start rolling the tent from the back of the tent to the front squashing out any air on the way tie the bands around the tent and lift it into the bag - use the clip straps and zip the bag up. We find the tent spacious - Keep Bedroom snug with thick (Laminate underlay under our mattress for warmth, in 2nd. Bedroom use for storage Ikea hanging rail with tie on shelves to keep our clothes etc. Can't wait for our next outing - trying Cornwall next.

My Montana has been terrific value for money. We went away to Devon for half term. Fortunately we had a sheltered site so the gales weren't an issue for us, but last Thursday the heavens opened and old Monty got truly tested. Have to say she stood the test. We quite literally ended up being pitched in a small pond, and despite a waterbed effect on the groundsheet, we remained warm and dry inside.

The stitched in groundsheet is superb, keeping out all water and wind, and there's heaps of space to sit inside during those typical British bank holidays!

We bought two canopies for ours which effectively gives us an integrated gazebo. We've attracted many stares at times, but it comes into it's own on longer family holidays, especially for outdoor living in France. More recently Outwell have introduced extensions for the Monty6 and these are great as they reach to the floor which our canopies don't (we velcroed some old gazebo side panels to ours! - not very glamorous but it does the job in poor weather).

Many of the adjustments we made with ours seem to be standard or optional extras which means Outwell must be listening to feedback and acting upon it which is good to know.

The Montana 6 now has an electric cable point and wall to wall carpets are also available (we've been using plastic-backed picnic mats). Seems a bit of a luxury at first, but with such a large floor area, in early/late season, the ground sheet can be a bit chilly. We use a fan heater and our tent is very warm and dry.

Some of the elastic fasteners for our sleeping compartments have come away, so they drape low in a couple of places, but even this has been improved with the newer model and storage pockets are now also included which is great for the kids' toys or for somewhere to store all the shoes.

We all think Outwell tents are great value for money and the Montana 6 is certainly worth serious consideration.

This tent quite simply saved my love of camping. I was starting to feel the cold too much in our last tent, but the Monty 6 is extremely snug with its SIG, especially with the whole family tucked inside playing games of an evening. It has survived gale force storms on the hillsides of Wales with nary a leak or bent pole; it takes us 25 minutes to put up; it is spacious and airy, provided as it with ample windows and doors, and in summary is the perfect family tent. We wouldn't swap it for anything!

We had a Monty 6 for the first time in 2006, we absolutely loved it until we got caught in the BH rain and it leaked like a sieve. There was a few problems with this particular years model, however, the dealer was fantastic and exchanged it no quibble for a 2007 model. This tent is fantastic, the design allows for maximum usage of the whole tent, especially if used with the front extension which is great too. It has withstood lots of rain and windy weather no probs. Until we pitched up this BH in North Devon. The tent stood proud and strong for 2 nights of gales and rain, with only slight trickles of leaks, but nothing to worry about. Our beloved Monty unfortunately gave into the elements on BH Monday when the wind became too much and the front extension poles caved in and twisted the main poles on the left side of the tent. End of holiday for us and R.I.P Monty! But honestly what a fabulous tent. If you like roomy, airy, practical and safe tents then this is the one for you. I reckon this tent is well on it's way to becoming an icon of the 00's!

We have just come back from a weekend with our new Monty 6. It was easy to put up, but you do need two strong people. V roomy inside, bedrooms great for our two boys and you can stand up easily in them. We have the carpet which was a must and wouldn't be without. Found the tent to be very well made. Not managed to get it back in the bag fully, but this was our first time. Practice makes perfect.

By: Adelowe  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2007   Rating:   Date: 01/06/2008

We have used our tent in torrential downpours, hail and this weeks gails in north wales, while others buckled and failed ours stood proud.

Plenty of space for two adults and two boys, easy enough to pitch but you might find it difficult to get back in the bag at first but after a couple of attempts you will wonder why.

Carpet is great but recommend the front canopy so you can still enjoy the outside if weather is poor.

Love it!

Best tent we have ever bought. Used it for two holidays last year plus endless weekends. Easy to erect even for us 'oldies' who are well in the 50's age bracket, and although we had some very wet and windy weather it hardly moved.

The living space is extremely spacious and there is plenty of headroom even for a very tall person. We use a blow up double air bed (height 20') in the bedroom which fits perfectly. This will give you some idea of the bedroom size.

We love our Outwell Montana 6 and look forward to many more holidays in it.

We have used our Montana six around four times now and it has withstood torrential downpours and windy conditions. The other comments re the carpet are spot on. We recently purchased the front extension and canopy. This stopped the rain from hitting the front entrance and allowed us to use the extension for cooking and storing food etc. This allows the canopy to remain a nice area for sitting under if the weather is fine. When you use the front extension and canopy together, the tent does need quite a large pitch so is worth checking when you are are booking a potential site.
The footprint is invaluable as it keeps the base clean and dry and is also another skin between you and the ground. Excellent and roomy the Montana six attracts interest on each site we visit and I would not hesitate to recommend it to families looking for a quality camping experience.

We have just had our first weekend away in the tent it was fab. Great living space, spacey bedroom area, we use the second bedroom as wardrobe and storage room as there is just the two of us. We think the canopy is our next buy to enable cooking area to be outside of living area.
We had some really bad weather but the tent was great. We enjoyed sitting in the tent even in the rain watching the world go by through the large windows. Extra's like storage pockets and fly screens are great. We would recomend this tent to anyone wanting a good all rounder.

We upgraded from a Vango Venture as we wanted more living space particularly after last years weather. We had our first trip out in the Monty in May and what a fantastic tent. Really quick and easy to put up, oodles of living space. Being able to have one large bedroom is a plus as we have two small children (2&4) and wanted them close to us.

We also bought the footprint to protect the SIG and the carpet is lovely under foot last thing at night or first thing in the morning. Would recommend both of these. We have just bought the extension although not tried it yet next trip will be a week in Scarborough in June.

Plenty of ventilation with the vent\view windows. Some really nice design touches like the cable entry point and guy retaining system (velcro straps so simple but so effective!).

I no longer have tent envy when we are camping as this is such a fantastic tent!

Fantastic tent for comfortable family camping. The feeling when inside the tent is great . The care and attention to details superb. Only thing that would have made it a 10 out of 10 is a fully enclosed canopy which they now sell! carpet and footprint are musts

Fantastic tent. We have gone from folding camper to tent and people thought we were mad but I can honestly say this tent is brilliant the living space is ample for a family of 4/5 and the sleeping compartments are big. Only downside if there is one is getting the hang of putting it away in its bag but we will get better at this.

We bought our Montana 6 August last year. We used it for the first time in Sept. We had other campers asking to look inside as they like the look fromoutside. Great tent with loads of space. Just got the carpet very cosy wish it went under the bedrooms as it was cold at night. We use the side awning for our port-a-loo. The footprint grounsheet is a must it kept the underside of the tent clean to pack away. Very surprised packed away in the bag first time. I would recommend this tent to couples and families.

Very nice tent, may be a bit too big for 4 people. When packed it takes up a vast amount of boot space. Lots of headroom, very waterproof, even if a small stream develops under the tent.

We bought this tent last year as we decided for the forseeable future that our family holidays would be al fresco in France. When we saw the tent we loved the living space (in a sensible shape) that it offered for us and our two young children, vital for the times when they need to play and we need to keep a watchful eye. It's draught free (sewn in groundsheet), cosy and all the big windows let in plenty of light, unlike some tents. We bought the carpet which is particularly welcome late at night and first thing in the morning.

The side by side bedrooms were important to us too (with the option of being able to unzip/zip between the two)as our children are still young. We love this tent and can't wait for this year's three week jolly holiday in France!

Best tent we have ever had, very snug with the SIG, easy and quick to errect. Loads of space and excellent headroom. Enclosed porch is very useful for leaving wet boots and shoes in. Only down side is it needs a bigger bag to pack it into. Also have just got the front extension and carpet. Carpet is soft under foot and really cosy, extension a god send for cooking under in the wet. I too would recommend the foot print ground sheet to keep the SIG clean for packing.

Bought our monty in 2005 and has served us very well in Cornwall, The Lakes and North Wales. Has loads of space for me and my wife and two kids, easy to erect and with the SIG it seems very snug.
Have to say we have owned a few tents and the monty is the best one so far.

The Outwell Montana 6 is a fantastic tent , offering loads of living space and good headroom , whilst it's straight-forward rectangular design is accepted on most campsite pitches , without having to pay extra charges for larger tents .

Being single-skinned with the bedroom pod already attached , pitching is speedy and stress-free .

Our Montana 6 has stood up to some horrendous weather, strong winds and gales ,heavy rainfall , and has had no problems whatsoever .

We would recommend using a 'footprint groundsheet' to pitch the tent on , this will protect the sewn in groundsheet of the tent , whlst also keeping the underside of the sewn in groundsheet clean and dry for when you pack the tent away .

Once when we were setting up on a campsite , unbeknown to us at the time we were being watched by a family in a caravan . They came across later on and asked if they could have a closer look . They said they were amazed at how quickly and easily we were pitched and set up ,and the generous living space the tent provides . With rising fuel costs when towing a caravan , and in their words , ' not having room to swing a cat in the van ' , the Montana 6 , convinced this family to sell their caravan and go back to their tent camping roots . We kid you not .

Bought this tent earlier this year and took it away just after Easter. Compared with our Khyam Galaxy 600 it has loads of space plus much better headroom - I am 6ft tall. It stood up well to a very stormy night while we were away - gales, heavy rain, hail and thunder. An excellent tent. My only complaint is the difficulty we have had in packing it back into its bag after use.

By: Snowy747  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2005   Rating:   Date: 01/05/2008

We have owned the Montana for 3 years and taken it down to France twice for a fortnight. We find the tent extremely roomy for the two of us, we can sit inside it in inclement weather without being in each other's way.

The newer ones have a more versatile bedroom layout whereby you can have one large bedroom or have it separated which ours doesn't have but we would have liked.

It has withstood very severe ice storms in the French Alps without moving an inch. Once you get the hang of pitching it in a 'caterpillar' fashion it is very easy and can be done within the hour including pegging out.

It has proved to be very durable, we haven't any broken poles or zips and have never had any leaks. I can't praise this tent highly enough and given a choice between the caravan and the Monty I would choose the Monty every time!
