Just bought this tent recently on the basis that it was cheap and the reviews here seemed to suggest it was a good buy. Also bought the groundsheet, carpet and porch, and all I can say is wow, what a marvellous tent. Took the two of us half hour to pitch, which I was well impressed with. Massive amounts of space and loads of ventilation. Didn't manage to get the porch up as we were only pitched for the weekend and spent most of the time in the sun, so that will have to go up in a couple of weeks when in Cornwall. Packing away was a sinch, someone already suggested leaving the inner tents in, which we did, and oh my, so simple to pack up in the oversized bag and will make pitching in a couple of weeks even quicker. I have a target of 10 minutes, so wish us luck. Highly recommended, so if you're in the market for a big tent, get one, especially whilst the price keeps dropping like a stone :-)

We recently bought this tent and used it for our 1st camping trip, we read reviews about it and forum posts about erecting it as we didn't have a chance to practice putting it up before we went. We struggled a bit to put it up, the instructions which came with the tent were a bit limited and I'm glad we found some decent instructions on this site. We still struggled, couldn't get it in the right place on the footprint - ended up with about a foot spare at the end. We got it up eventually and it stayed up fine and I think we'll definitely do better next time.

We bought the porch and carpet too which I would definitely recommend. There was plenty of room for all of us, 2 adults and 3 children. The bedrooms easily fitted a double airbed with enough space to stand at the end. The bedrooms are separated by a flimsy 'wall' fastened up with elastic hoops and toggles - great that you can remove it to have one large bedroom at either end instead of two small ones, but we were pitched on a slight slope and I rolled off the aired and got trapped between the bed and bedroom 'wall' in my effort to get up I managed to snap the hoop holding the wall up. I think this will be easily sewn back together but seemed quite flimsy. Also it got quite windy one of the days and we had a lantern hung in the middle of the tent from the material hook, this broke too, which is annoying, but luckily the lantern was ok and no one was in the tent to get hurt by it.

I've read reviews that said the porch is designed for the kalahari 10 and so doesn't quite fit properly leaving a gap between the tent and side of porch, there's also gap between the porch and top of tent and we wind kept blowing between the tent and porch tail and into the porch, so much so that it pulled the pegs out securing the porch at the back of the tent at one point and the porch fell down while we were out. We pegged it a bit more securely and it didn't happen again but the wind wasn't as bad on the second day.

All in all it's a great tent, the internal pockets were useful and and the bug mesh on the doors and windows and bedroom doors were great. Lots of reviews say it's easy to get the tent back into the bag, well this is our first tent so maybe we just don't really know shared are doing but it took us 3 attempts to fold and roll the tent up small enough and get the air out so that it would fit back into the bag and 2 of us to stuff it in. We finally realised there was a load of space in the corners of the bag and got it sorted and I think we would do better next time. So a great tent with some nice small touches, but shame the porch doesn't fit properly as rain gets in between the tent and porch, and a shame so the materials used weren't as durable as they could be.

We started off with a Hartford XL.Lovely tent but too much hassle to put up for a couple of nights away, then moved to an Icarus 600, easy to put up, just a bit small for longer trips. And finally settled on the Kalahari 8, after a good look round go outdoors

Amazing value and extremely spacious. Our first pitch took us about an hour (including the porch). It's not fiddly, it just takes time to get it right and fully pegged out. We bought the porch, carpet and groundsheet too, and all of these make a big difference.

The tent itself came in two bags, as the second bag had the inner bedrooms in it. We thought it was a bit weird to have the bedrooms in the separate bag.And when we collapsed it down, we managed to get it all in one bag (left the bedrooms in place). The bag is slightly oversized and so getting it back in the bag was relatively easy.

The bedrooms are a good size, and we had them set up as 4 doubles. Our double aero bed fits nicely and although the bedroom divider is a bit flimsy and only holds in place by a couple of clips, it did the job. Pockets on each bedroom wall and more pockets on the outside of the bedrooms means lots of space for bits and pieces (although I wouldn't put anything too heavy in them)

The living space easily fit six chairs in and a table, any more would be a bit crowded.

We had strong winds and rain all night and the tent flexed a bit, but stood it's ground, no leaks anywhere and the next day when it started to warm up, we made use of the the multiple air vents all round the tent to keep the temperature inside the tent down

The two doors each have a bug mesh on them, as does each of the windows which is a great addition.

The porch has a small door in the middle, or you can unzip the entire front to have a canopy rather than a porch.

The other door can be used as a canopy using the supplied aluminium poles.

Overall, we're VERY pleased with this tent and can't wait to go away again in a couple of weeks.

We bought this tent to upgrade from our current 4 man tent, we wanted a spacious tent with a bit of luxury and this tent met up to what we wanted. It was easy to pitch, easy to take down and was very sturdy and secure.

We had one side as 2 bedrooms for the kids and the other one we left as a big room for us parents.

We got the carpet and porch too as part of the deal, the carpet made it feel very cosy and warm. The porch was great for cooking and eating when it was chilly outside.

We can't wait to go away again in it.

We just got back from a weekend away staying in this tent, this was our first camping trip away and the tent was very easy to pitch up we managed to erect it within 40 mins with 3 of us. The tent had more then enough room for us. I am now looking into buying the porch so we can use it for a cooking area.

During our stay we had some strong winds and the tent barely moved, also with a light rain not even a drop made it inside. I would highly recommend buying this tent to anyone looking.

My friend has just purchased this tent, and I have just spent the weekend away with him and my family.

Its a great tent well made which has been stitch together very well.

It took the 2 of us about half an hour to erect fully and roughly the same to to pack away.

Inside there is plenty of space, we liked sleeping in the pods inside the tent.

Although if you took the pods out, you could comfortably sleep 14.

We tested it in a massive thrashing from the wind and rain and it took on nature and won!

This is a great tent and I can recommend to anyone thinking in buying this tent.

Bought this tent last year, absolutely fab, loads of space and little pockets for knick knacks. Also bought the porch which is great for the cooker fridge tables and wellies lol. Footprint and carpet are a great addition as well makes it feel really cosy, easily put up and taken down as well. Bedrooms can be split into 4 or the partition left out to create larger rooms, plenty of room for table and chairs in main living area. Would recommend to anyone thinking about buying this tent.

Super tent. The other half wanted more space to sit around (especially when stuck inside on wet days) and room to stuff the kids (and there stuff). Holds up well to a good North Wales Storm. Easy to put up and down (just takes 2 hours to empty all the stuff the other half has put in). Only paid £299 for it, great buy and very highly recommended.

I have owned this tent for a few years now and found it to be a perfect tent for our needs.

It is very easy to put up with just myself and my wife in approx 30 mins.

I have just purchased the porch to go with it and found this to be the perfect addition as you can have all your cooking facilities in there.

I would recommend this tent to everyone as it is has plenty of room and is easy to put up.

This tent is absolutely brilliant! We use it without inner tents 2 kids 2&4 and 2 adults one dog. Huge space, great for rainy days which we had quite a few of. Withstood gale force winds and torrential rain. Despite its size easy to put up and down Can,t fault it. Used with a Vango porch and sun canopy not perfect fit but worked fine and gave us even more space.

Manufacturer's Description

Hi Gear Kalahari 8 Family Tunnel Tent:

Hi Gear's Kalahari 8 is a spacious and stable tunnel-style tent that's packed with features and versatility for a stress-free camping experience.

It's pre-attached high-visibility guylines, slick pole sleeves, and welded polyethylene groundsheet make pitching the tent a quick and easy affair.

The living space is a generous 7.6m², and the bedrooms comfortably sleep four at each end of the tent, in a 2+2 inner arrangement with breathable inner walls.

The sewn-in groundsheet combined with the fire-retardant polyester flysheet (with 3000mm hydrostatic head) give you a fully sealed and ventilated internal environment, so you'll be completely protected from draughts and even the heaviest sustained downpours.

The large living space has two 'privacy' windows and hanging storage pockets to help keep it tidy and liveable.

The two doors can be propped and extended out to use as a canopy, using the steel porch poles, giving you shelter from rain or stretching the space out for more room if it's sunny.

Other features include water-repellent zips, an electrical cable access point, and multiple ventilation points along the roof line.

Easy to pitch, generously spaced and comfortable to live in, the Kalahari 8 is a great choice for families or groups who need convenience and quality wherever they're going.
