1 Reviews of the Palena DLX 600

By: Acampingwewillgo  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2013   Rating:   Date: 09/10/2013

We weren't looking to replace our 2011 Vango Maritsa (MARY!)600 or 2012 Vango Icarus (IZZY!) 500 just yet but saw this Vango Palena (PENNY!) dlx 600 with carpet and footprint for 350 from GoOutdoors and thought 'why not!'. We also purchased the matching canopy as we like to extend the living area to the 'max'! First impressions are great, slightly thicker material than the Maritsa (the Palena is 150d whereas I think the Maritsa and Icarus are 70d). The tent was easy and quick to put up with only the front pole section being colour-coded. The 22mm poles look like they have been coated and are black in colour, our Maritsa poles are also 22mm but are normal stainless steel and these are starting to rust slightly so I'm hoping these black ones won't.

There is plenty of head-room and I needed hubby to put the top hooks in on the sleeping pods, the sleeping pods can be left in and the tent pitched as one, which saves a bit of time. The sleeping pod has a simple divider which can be taken out to leave a huge sleeping area. The tent has three big windows with zip-down curtains which makes it better than the zip-up curtains as you can zip them up to the level you want and then just tuck the remaining curtain away. It also has two windows in the front by the door. It has one electric opening which is to the right of the side door (when standing outside the tent) near the sleeping pod, I really don't know why they have put it here as it means having the cable running under the side door if you need it for fridge etc. Also sometimes in heavy rain you get a little puddle where the rain has driven in around the zip so if this happens it's very near the sleeping pod. We will put our electric through the gap between the tent and canopy. I really like the front door as you can leave it open when it rains and as it has the slight canopy hopefully nothing will get wet!

The side door also has a good sized canopy over it, we did encounter a problem though (if you see the photos I have uploaded) in that the left hand side clip was wrong and we couldn't attach the pole, we did manage it by twisting the clip around and attaching it to the other side of the pole. I've emailed Vango and they should hopefully be sending me a new clip so I can change it. The living area is a good size and could easily sit 4 people with a table and chairs plus some cooking gear.

We camp with myself, hubby, 15 year old and an 11 year old plus two big dogs so we always purchase matching canopies. The canopy was a little fidderly to attach as it zips onto the front of the tent under a flap. We put the poles in and then got the canopy as close to the front of the tent as we could. Once it is zipped on the storm flap velcros down at either end. There is then one clip either side that attaches to the tent pole. The two ends of the zip are exposed (around 2 inches) and I would imagine when it rains that water will drip off these and down between the canopy and the front of the tent. The canopy comes with a groundsheet but we didn't put this down. The canopy also has roll down windows and really gives you plenty of space. The guy ropes have the new LineLok system runners which work very quickly and easily.

I'm hoping the tent is waterproof but it probably won't come out to play until next Spring :( I've given this tent 9/10 on first impressions after pitching. The downsides I can see are, position of electric cable entry, only one side door and having the incorrect clip for the side canopy door. But I'm a women and a very fussy one at that! :)
