I bought this tent in 2008 as I wanted my children to experience camping. I went to a camping place just as they were erecting all the tents so asked the men which was the easiest one to put up as I was by myself with 2 children (then aged 8). They said the Gelert Horizon 6 or 8.

I bought the Gelert Horizon 6 which has been excellent. I put it up in the garden first so that I knew where everything went. It was so easy even by myself, the only help I needed was for one of my boys to hold the one end up whilst I stretched the tent out & put some tent pegs in.

It took about 30 mins.

Our first adventure was Easter 2008 and it was very wet and windy. But the tent held out well with no leaks etc.

Bedrooms are good sizes.

We used the one bedroom for storage and for a portable toilet.

Have got some matting which is worth having as it gives insulation underfoot.

Would strongly recommend. The only thing I find hard is getting the tent back into it's bag.

Absolutely love this tent! I was very dubious about camping, but was persuaded by my family to give it a go. We saw the Gelert Horizon 6 set up at a camping show and knew it was the one for us. It is extremely spacious and withstood a howling gale and heavy rain on our first night - everything stayed dry including us!

With the tent we also bought the carpet which made it cosy inside. We also bought the porch which is excellent and helped keep the clutter out of the tent by storing it in the porch as it is very spacious.

I'm definitely a camping convert and can't wait for our next trip!

This was our first tent of this type and we found it easy to put up with fairly simple instructions even in quite a breeze. It is well made and very roomy. Since buying I have added the footprint groundsheet and inside carpet. These are very recommended to protect the tents own built in groundsheet. Also we have now added the porch as well. We have pitched it about 6 times now and have little complaint. Only real advice is to watch out not to pull it too tight when putting in pegs as this can make the door and fly repellent doors hard to zip and unzip. Its flexible in use and we particularly like the internal bedrooms which make it very private. Not the cheapest tent on the market but the quality is worth it. Noticed one previous review commented on the seeming over stretching of the poles when using pin and ring system. We have had one of the centre black poles split. All in all can only say it has served our purpose more than adequately.

Being new to camping this year I was cautious of the costs and went for the Gelert Horizon 6 as it offers a decent size and is just so easy to put up. I have since bought a larger 9 man Vango Diablo 900 tent but have decided to sell it again (As its just too difficult to put up) and stick with my Horizon 6. If I had any criticism it would be that I'm having problems trying to source a matching blue porch extension. And would have bought the 8 man if Id known how much we would enjoy camping and how often we have been going.

We started camping last year and purchased a second hand tent just in case it was not to our liking. As we enjoyed camping we decided to acquire a new tent. Our choice was the Gelert horizon 6 which we also added the footprint ground sheet, carpet and porch extension. This tent is fantastic and having only put it up twice 2 of us can do this in about 30 mins. The bedroom set up is versatile as we don't always need both of them one can be left out and the tent has a opening behind it. There is plenty of ventilation and good window use. The weather on a recent trip was not to good and with high wind and heavy rain this tent stood strong. A ground sheet for the porch extension would be good but it seems Gelert do not make one. All in all a great tent for experienced and new campers.

Excellent tent. The construction is really easy to erect and living space very good especially once matching tent porch added. We use it as a 4 person tent but it can easily accommodate the full 6 without having to squeeze into the sleeping compartments. Pitch in less than 30 minutes.

Would highly recommend.

Used this tent twice so far and all I can say is great great great !

PITCHING- Despite being new to camping the 2 of us put it up and fastened down all the guy ropes in 35 minutes.

TAKING DOWN- Storage bag is good size and easy to pack away tent and poles. We find it best to fold in all the loose ropes/flaps onto the groundsheet and then bring either end to the middle and fold in half again. You can then get one of the kids to roll from one end to the other (leave cable zips unzipped) and this helps get all the air out before folding one final time to the shape of the bag. In all it only took 20 mins max to dismantle.

SLEEPING AREAS- Good sizes. We put dad + son in one pod with double coleman mattress (excellent) and single regatta sleeping bags (excellent) and mum + daughter in the other again with same gear. Still had plenty of space around edge for bags/book/light/etc. Excellent double layer door allowing for internal pod mesh to remain zipped up to prevent bugs whilst allowing good air flow with other layer unzipped in hot weather.

CABLE ZIPS- Various access zips to allow for EHU entry -as stated previously we found if you leave these unzipped when packing away you can release any trapped air by rolling along the folded tent allowing air to be forced out easily with no damage to tent.

VALUE- excellent value for money at £179(tent)+ £39(canopy) + £17 (carpet)

OTHER POINTS- Plenty of hooks to hang lighting/ additional porch canopy is very useful for cooking in/ central living area is roomy and made more comfortable with tent carpet/dries really quick/ like the colour coded poles for easy quick pitching/ feel end door is waste of time as we will never have any need to use it as will always fit the 2 internal pods therefore unnecessary additional air circulation which could be avoided by just having 2 main doors in central area (but nothing that bit of tape cannot solve)

Excellent investment for years of happy camping!

I'm still a novice at this camping lark so I'm not sure whether it's a good idea for me to comment or otherwise. But as they say, 'a fresh pair of eyes.'

What a relief, after a camping trip last year in a borrowed cheap Argos tent we finally took the plunge. I searched all over the internet and of course these review pages here for a flavour of what we should look for.

We wanted one that would be large enough for when my daughter and her husband-to-be join us next year with preferable the two bedrooms at opposite ends and with a large enough area to live in the middle and at the same time we wanted a tent that was easy enough to be put up by two people (me and the missus) who still like their comforts.

The Gelert Horizon 6 ticked all the right boxes and to boot was at a very affordable price.

To say that the tent exceeded our expectations is probably an understatement, everything about it was as-near-as-damnit perfect.

The two of us managed to put it up the first time in a very leisurely 1 hour (including a small tea break (as one does) and we were ready for action in no time at all.

As we didn't have a separate porch (the porch is on the shopping list for next year) we did the cooking inside where (although I know it's a cardinal sin) we still managed to have loads of space to have seats and so-on in the same area with the large double Sunncamp kitchen unit inside.

The only thing we didn't manage to test out and it's probably a good thing, was whether a good old Cornish storm would dent my enthusiasm for the tent, we had a small spell of light rain only one the very last night and there wasn't a drop left inside the tent.

I've just returned from my first camping trip using my new tent and I absolutely LOVE it. I did quite a bit of research before buying it and found that without exception, the reviews for the Gelert Horizon 6 were very favourable, and now I know why.

The tent is very high-quality, well designed and extremely roomy. Our party was made up of 2 adults and 2 teenagers (both 15) and as such we had plenty of room and it would have certainly been more than adequately spacious had there been 6 of us. The living area seemed vast, and fitted a table, 4 chairs and still had space to freely move around.

I also purchased the footprint groundsheet and carpet, which made it very comfortable and cosy and made me feel somehow better about pitching my new tent knowing that it would be protected from stones etc. I got the whole package (tent, footprint and carpet) for £239.00 and think that it was money well spent as we will get many a lovely holiday for years to come from this purchase. Incidently, I bought the Mocha/Sandstone coloured one (new colour for 2010) and it looked gorgeous) : )

Just camped in typical May BH weather and this tent survived the strong wind and rain! Great size for up to 6 people but we have 2 adults and 2 teenagers so very comfortable. Also liked the fact we were in separate sleeping areas not too near my snoring children! We purchased the porch and used it this weekend for first time- valuable addition as gave us extra 'outside' space which allowed us to cook in it ( out of the rain!) and keep all the kitchen stuff in.Also allowed us to store all the boots and shoes in, so keeping the main tent clean.

Also as mentioned by others previously, the only flaw we found when we first used the tent was the gaping seem at one end of the tent when the door is zipped shut.Allowed wind to blow around the pod at that end. As we never intend using this door I got some wide Velcro and stuck this shut, which was well and truly tested this w/e -howling gale, wind and rain - problem fixed! Overall great tent, loads space, storage pockets, EHU slots, easy pitching.Well worth all the researching I had done before getting it and would highly recommend for anyone wanting large family tent.
