A good tent chosen for the fact that it goes up outer first. This is a distinct advantage. I have now used it three times in all conditions except snow. The only real negative is common to all of this type of tent in that it is a faff to get the poles into the sleeves and to raise the tent up.

Unlike the previous tent I owned this ones does tension up nicely.

I did initially experience some leaks which were quickly fixed with seam sealant. The instructions warn you that this is to be expected, although I have not experienced this before with brand new tents.

It is very spacious, helped by the fact there is no inner tent as such. The bedrooms are small though and would only sleep the stated 8 people at a push.

We cannot find fault with this tent, it is fantastic for our needs. We are a family of 5, and there is plenty of room. We also purchased the footprint, carpet(fantastic addition, made the tent very cosy) and the canopy which was a godsend as we cooked outside most of the time and was a great storage area.

My only gripe was upon erecting - luckily we were at home, having a trial run, the pole elastic snapped but managed to purchase more elastic and fixed prior to our holiday.

Overall, a great family tent for those who want space and comfort(as much as you can get with a tent!).

I love this tent - We needed a big tent, despite there usually only being 3 of us because we take a LOT of gear (mountain bikers usually do!) This tent will comfortably fit 4 + lots of gear or 5+ with more of the usual stuff!

Pitching is straight forward and easy given the colour coded poles.

Only down point for me is that if you don't peg it out quite right, the pod doors can be a little difficult to close.

Would definitely look at a Hartford again!

We are a family of four (2 young girls) and have had this tent for a few years now. Last year we purchased the footprint groundsheet, carpet and canopy. These are a fantastic addition, the carpet is lovely, the children can play on it, it make the tent feel really cosy. The canopy is great for cooking and storing everything as the front porch is not that big, however we used to cook in there on wet days with the door rolled up before we had the canopy. The only downside to the canopy is that being open at the end it acts like a wind tunnel, once or twice we thought we may have to take it down, but it never came to that.

The reason that I am writing this review however is that whilst camping in the lakes recently our campsite flooded after very heavy rain from 4pm through to 7am. We lay awake all night because of the noise of the rain (children slept though it!) In the morning we could hear people splashing past our tent, so thought we should take a look. We stepped into the main living area and it was like walking on a water bed, the tent was under 2-3 inches of water - but we were dry. The tent hadn't leaked in at all -not a drop, and with the sewn in groundsheet we had been saved from a complete wash out. Luckily my sister and her friend were with us, so we emptied the contents of the tent into our two cars, then waited for the girls to wake up!. We then took one corner of the tent each and marched the tent up to a dry area on the field. By this time a few corners of the ground sheet had leaked in, but we dried it all with one small towel. So that shows that it wasn't much. We moved everything back into the tent and got on with the rest of our holiday. Unfortunately that couldn't be said for a lot of the other campers - those without sewn in groundsheets got completely washed out and others suffered badly with tents leaking in. The next night we looked around the campsite and almost all the tents left (not including abandoned ones!) were outwell or vango. This really showed that we had chosen a quality tent.

We are now looking for a smaller tent for weekend breaks and it would have to be something special for us not to choose outwell.

I can't recommend this tent enough, fantastic for families and the great Cumbrian weather

This is the largest of our accumulation of tents and it is absolutely the bees knees for longer trips with our family of five. Light and airy, it has plenty of space to spread around and ours has had to face up to some pretty grotty wind and rain over the last two years which it has done with aplomb.

We have invested in the footprint, carpet and extension to make it a real home away from home.

My only criticism really (and it's not really a big deal) is that the centre bedroom at the back of the tent is still quite saggy compared to the two side pods, but given that it's generally used by my youngest child it isn't that much of an issue.

Some people have mentioned that the front door isn't easy to open and close fully unless you get down on your hands and knees. I think that's a bit nit-picky given that you generally do a lot of getting down on your hands and knees while camping - not least getting in and out of bed - but the whole issue went away for us when we bought the extension because aside from one really very wild night this last holiday we only ever zipped up the mossie-net 'door' and left the front door almost permanently rolled up.

Superb tent we are a family of 5 (3 young boys) and have plenty of room in it, we did purchase the extension for extra cooking/utility area which also double up as an outdoor seating area should it rain!

Didn't give it 10 out of 10 as on our first strip the shock cord snapped on the main pole, leaving us a bit stuck!

We also bought the carpet for that extra comfort and the footprint which comes in very handy for organising your pitch!

All in all a great family tent which we will be sticking with for a long time :-)

We were new to camping and decided we needed a tent large enough for a family of 4 with storage for all the equipment required. We also purchased the footprint which is invaluable as it keeps the tent cleaner, and makes it easier to decide the best position for your tent when pitching ( saves disagreements with the wife!) and the tent carpet which gives a cosy and warm feel to the tent especially on cold morning.

The features I love are the large living area which can easily fit a table and four chairs, the skylights and large windows so the tent is nice and light even on a dull wet day. The children each have a sleeping pod which we put double airbeds in. They store all their bits and pieces in the pockets of the pods.

The large porch sold it too us as we wanted an area to keep the shoes and kitchen equipment in, there is lots of space, however when the front door is closed the zip is difficult to open unless you go on your knees (not so good first thing in the morning)

This tent takes the two of us about an hour to set up including the footprint, tent(no fussing with the bedrooms as pitched as one), carpet and all the equipment such as the kitchen stand and airbeds.

The colour coded poles are great and even my 11 year old daughter pitched the tent with me in just over an hour.

We recently damaged a durawrap pole but found getting a replacement easy with a cost of a few pounds under a tenner.

Other considerations are the size and shape of the tent doesn't always fit a standard pitch.

We have camped 6 times with our tent in all weather conditions and it has always kept us warm, cosy and dry.

Love our tent its so great and spacious and for the money, we got it in a end of season sale, we just couldn't walk away without it. It has won us over to the wonders of camping. Our friends thought ours was so good they have bought the latest version which has pods that attach on the inside, this amends the tents greatest failing which is the faff of having to set up 2 tents really as the inner is a complete tent and the outer slides over the top. Great tent for a family!

I was initially a very reluctant camper, but am now absolutely hooked, partly due to this fantastic tent. It takes 2 of us to put it up but can now get it up and airbeds in etc. All sorted in an hour. We have 2 children so the extra space in the middle for those rainy evenings is essential. We have bought the carpet and have found it really adds to the cosy feel. You definitely need to mention the size when booking though as some sites charge you extra.

Our Hartford has just had its second outing and although one of the porch poles (angled joint) partially snapped in pitching (it still worked ok, the tent just didn't look as good as it could), it still did well and we were pleased with the space it provides. Therefore, slightly stupid design of an angled joint which perhaps should be re-thought for another model?

We like the windows, we like the inner tents, we like the ease of pitching (I managed it on my own when it needed drying in the garden and the OH was at work)(not sure I'd recommend that on a public campsite, as you'd be rather at the mercy of passers-by and comedy comments).

We also bought the carpet which is an absolute must if you camp in Scotland. Brilliant thing.
