We Purchased this tent last year.Used it twice now.Great Tent.Gallons of room. Especially if you have the front porch Extension, which we purchased this year .This tent is large so needs two people to pitch it. When erecting the tent make sure you put the two main red colour code poles in first and the main none coloured porch support pole. Then get someone inside the tent to raise it in the middle. Then pop the pins into the poles. This can be great fun in the Wind and Rain as we experienced. Once you have pegged these poles the rest is pretty easy.
Make sure you buy the carpet it makes a great difference. The tents got lots of air vents for those hot summer days. And it also has two small skylight windows for looking at the stars etc. Gave tent nine out of ten. Again this is due to having to reach down to the floor to open the main door zip. Though there is a remedy for this. I am thinking of making a long piece of dowelling or bamboo with a small hook on the end, to hook the zip and pull it up. Anybody got any other ideas?

Firstly what a tent.
The tent has ample room for a family of 8 and all accessories. The tent is easy to put up and take down. The bedrooms are pre-installed which is an absolute god send. Plenty of light if you roll up the 'curtains'. A big tent with good headroom, both in the living space and the bedrooms.
Plenty of pockets both in the living room and the bedrooms.
We haven't bought the foot print yet, but talking to other people who own the same tent, this is a must.
Now the bad points.
The front door. If you want to zip the door all the way down you have to get on hands and knees. The O door that is on the bedrooms would be a good idea here.
The Porch could do with some work at the bottom where the storm flaps are. When it rained our porch became flooded (we had all our shoes in there) as there was no way of completely securing the porch ground sheet to the storm flaps. A zip in or velcro in ground sheet would be ideal.
The sky lights are a little high up, if you are small like myself 5'7' reaching them is tricky when balancing on tip toes. I had to get the missus to do it. On the other hand the headroom was great.
A must have tent for a large family, absolutely fab. Remember to mention the size when booking as it is a little big.
All in all a very good tent.

I really enjoy camping in this tent, plenty of space for 3 kids and 2 adults. Has survived wind and rain. Would recommended the tent, however it is not without its drawbacks. The need to unfasten the front zip by getting on the ground get annoying and the middle bedroom would benefit from more pole support as it seems to cave in. We have our time for completing pitching down to an hour with a further hour and a half for creature comforts (of which we have many!). Bought the extension this year tried out once appears to be a good idea so far.

Me and my partner bought one this year to take our 3 children camping and this tent delivered all that we expected. It was quick to put up even though it was the first time we had to put it up between us at the weekend and now we look forward to taking the kids away in it in the summer

Fantastic tent for family camping. Really roomy and good head height with lots of light inside and no midgies due to sewn-in groundsheet. Goes up all in one go and is quick and easy. Haven't really found anything wrong with it yet - an improvement on everything that was wrong with our last tents!

We own three tents, this being the largest of the three and was bought specifically for stays longer than 5 days, to create a 'home-from-home' and to be able to invite other friends/families along. In no way can the Hartford XL be said to fail at achieving these needs. It's not a 10 minute put-up, not at all, and it's not a small footprint tent either, but if you want to be able to create a home-from-home with enough space for you, your family and another family too - you can't go far wrong with this tent. We use the footprint (must have for added insulation), the carpet (must have for comfort and warmth), electrical hookup (must have for kids DVD players, kettle, lights etc.), front extension (for putting a kitchen up inside and cooking out of the rain), central-hung halogen heater (no-one likes a cold morning) and the Outwell Kids room (simply because it's a great fun addition and gives the kids a focal point of their own). It's warm, doesn't leak, sewn in groundsheet, relatively simple to erect and has more than enough space for 8 people and 2 dogs. On the downside, creating a 'home-from-home' can take time, the tent goes up in about 1 hour and there are a lot of pegs to sort out, but adding all the interior things to make it your 'home' can knock it up to 2 1/2 hrs setup - hence, not something you want to do for a weekend stay. A word to the wise though, if you try to put this up in strong wind, be prepared for a challenge. In the early stages, the tent can act like a sail, which is hilariously funny if it's your wife in the centre holding it up. A little tip though if you do attempt that, peg the central pentagon and bedrooms first to give it stability when flat, unpegging them in turn when you are ready to insert the poles for each room. We love ours, wouldn't be without it, but if you want a quick weekender, get another tent as well.

We purchased this tent for our first ever camping trip. We have three kids and a dog so needed a spacious tent. This tent didn't disappoint in any way. Its fab, we went all out and bought the footprint, carpet and door poles (it that's what they're called) and they're all great. We have no complaints and it withstood a terrible week in torrential rain and wind in Devon without any trouble. Would definitely recommend it even to complete novices like us. Would say the instructions are rather confusing and its easier just to work it out your self, which isn't that hard as poles are colour coded.
Downsides are as previous people have said, you need to get on your knees to zip front door all the way down (which is the only reason I haven't given it 10 out of 10) and some camp sites want you to pay for two pitches in peak season due to size, however there are plenty of great sites that don't

Bought our Hartford XL as after getting bitten by camping bug, realised our first tent too small. The Hartford XL offers excellent living space, important when weather bad (we are 2 adults/2 children and 2 dogs)Bedrooms are large enough to take large double airbeds. SIG ensures warm and cosy no draughts or bugs. The porch area is just about large enough to cook in but we are investing in an extension due to inclemencies of weather. The only real downside is that you have to get down on all fours to close the outer door. Not too much of problem as only do once at night. Now we know what we are doing the tent takes about 50 mins( in horizontal rain and strong wind) to erect.OH thinks we will get that time down with more practice All in all a lovely tent which I'm very pleased to own.Would certainly recommend to family with younger children who need to be in tent from early evening as so much room. Like the fact you can get extras like carpet and kids room (a must for our 3 yr old). Would definitely recommend a footprint.Worth the money, protects SIG and acts as good aid to pitching, direction etc

We purchased this tent this year and also bought the 'footprint' (which has proved really beneficial). We've been camping in it twice so far and have just returned from an extremely wet and windy Isle of Wight! The tent withstood all that the elements could throw at it (60+mph winds), which is more than can be said for a number of other tents which were demolished during the week.
My wife and I can comfortably erect the tent in about an hour, and take it down in about the same time. The 'footprint' does help when putting the tent up as you are able to position the tent easily by placing the 'footprint' in the appropriate spot. It also helps keep the bottom of the tent clean, and also saved our tent on a recent trip from having a hole chewed in it by a mouse, on whose home we had camped on top of!
The tent is nice and spacious, and the various windows allow in plenty of natural light. However these windows probably also result in the tent getting quite warm in the sun, but this can be negated slighly by keeping open the various vents that the tent has.
There are a number of nice touches, such as the cable guides which allow a light to be neatly hung from the centre of the tent without wires hanging dangerously down. The entry for the electric hook-up is also useful. Finally the tent comes with a massive bag which means that you can easily fit the tent in it once you've taken it down.
I would recommend this tent to anyone.

This tent was purchased to upgrade out Gelert cadiz 7 which was our first tent brought in May. We got the camping bug and decided to upgrade.
The hartford XL is huge and gave us loads of space which is what we wanted. The 2008 model pitches all in one and has a SIG. Front and rear doors are a bonus. We bought the extension but didn't erect it as the weather was great and there was enough room in the hartfords porch area anyway. I also think that you can add some upright poles to create a sun canopy from the main door. From a sapce point of view we had no complaints.
On the down side, due to its size lots of sites won't be able to accomodate it on a standard pitch.
The worst thing however was how tight some of the poles are to fit in to the ring and pin system, as the tent only has 2 main tension adjusters on the groundsheet area. The 'pod' Poles on the right and rear that form the sleeping areas were so tight to put in that we snapped a pole first time. I have made a minor adjustment using a carabina to release some tension out of the pole to good effect.
The ground sheet for the porch area was slightly too big (better than being too small I suppose).
In general a great tent for space, will easily sleep 6 with enough living area space even if the weather was bad. Good for mid to longer stays but probably to long to erect and take down for short weekend trips, as it took us approx 2 1/2 hours to fully set up on our first trip and about the same to come down and load the car.
