I love my Khyam - its fab. Goes up pretty quickly and its massive.

Yet still fits very nicely across the back seat of our car, meaning the boot is free for bags - lucky we've no kids so far!.

I love this tent, even though I found it difficult to pitch on my own, being a whimpish 5'2 middle age female.

I chose this tent as I did not want to use a small tent + gazebo combination, after the 'pop-up' gazebo bent in sections in high wind. The living area of this tent is the same size as a gazebo, which is ideal.

The living section is ample to have a table and 2 chairs inside all the time, still with loads of space around them for other items. I particularly like the side door as it makes it easy getting in and out once the main door/canopy is zipped up at night.

It is very sturdy even in high wind.

The bedroom section is huge and it was a bliss to be able to stand up fully while getting dressed/undressed.

I bought a Freelander recently (see separate review) to replace this tent, as I am camping on my own these days with my dog (a Border Terrier). However, I am keeping this tent, as I love it, and hope to have the chance to go camping with someone again in the future.

10 out of 10 for a great tent.

Bought the XL Excelsior having owned a Khyam RidgiPod Excelsior for a few years which was a great tent but just too much to tour with.

The XL Excelsior is much easier to pitch/strike with, so much so that we were happy to move camp on alternate days, where the RidgiPod was a pitch-in-one-place for a week as the minimum.

The XL Excelsior got flattened to the ground with 10 broken/bent poles in North Wales in May 2008, but we liked it enough to repair it/persevere with it because it is basically a good and convenient tent for generous camping/touring for just 2 people.

I bought this tent after looking for a model with a good sized living space that I could stand up in (I'm 6' 3'). The Khyam offers both of these and I'm very pleased with it.

The rapidex poles mean I can put it up on my own (not possible with many tents this size, or smaller) and it's up and ready in about 15 mins. It's not v aerodynamic so it does catch the wind if it's breezy when pitching. Using the side guys (as recommended in the instructions) does help though and these are good for keeping it stable in strong breezes when up (along with the other guys).

The bedroom area is spacious for 2 people. It takes a kingsize airbed, week's worth of luggage and still has walking space either side of the bed. It should be possible to roll down the dividing wall and fit 2 standard size double airbeds in, but luggage would have to go in the living area.

The living area doesn't have a ground sheet, but as I use camping chairs, tables and plastic boxes for food, it doesn't need one. Having no ground sheet cuts down on how much grass you kill off during longer stays!

The construction seems good quality and it's not needed any re-proofing / seam taping despite heavy downpours this summer. The inner skirt at the bottom of the tent walls pags down helping to cut draughts. There's a large vent at the back so the bedroom doesn't get stuffy. Despite this and a vent in the living area (if the outdoor window blind is pegged out) it is prone to condensation. This is especially true on warm days, early in the morning and can be a pain if you're trying to pack the tent away dry - the outer can be bone dry but you'll need to wait for the condensation inside to go. Unpegging the bedroom section and folding it back over the rear poles while having the main front door open creates a through flow of air and helps dry condensation out when striking camp.

The only down side is that the overall weight means you wouldn't want to carry it further than to and from the car.

I bought this tent after owning an ultradome khyam for 12 years. A rigidome being a step up (or so I thought). The first taste of wind which was not excessive and 1 pole bent and the other snapped at the joint. Not to be deterred I replaced the poles. This season I used it only to come up with more normal uk wind which broke and bent the same poles only this time the broken pole destroyed the flysheet. Khyam didn't want to know and referred me to the supplier and after several emails to them I'm still waiting a reply.

This fantastic new invention turns a can of drink into a sealed bottle, protecting drinks from being spilt, keeping out creepy crawlies, and keeping fizz in. They are a must for any camper or caravanner.
