User Reviews of the Cleveland 6

Weather update to review (as promised)
Just back from 8-day trip to coastal site in NW. Last 24 hours were hell! Non-stop rain and winds gusting up to 30 mph. Very few drips, couple in porch but not in main tent. And even though the tent flapped like crazy in the wind (which was scarily strong at times), it didn't budge and only suffered two snapped guys (were using Deltas which don't move either). Now feel very safe in this tent as our neighbours' metal-poled tent collapsed before our eyes! (Won't name brand but was very shocked!)

We bought this tent, as we felt our Gelert Tunnel tent took too long to put up. The Khyam website states a pitching time of 25 mins. Now, I am not saying that 25minutes isn't achievable, but I do think they are only taking into consideration how long it takes to get the tent 'up' and not the time taken to peg out all the guy lines.
Because the cleveland doesn't have any side support poles, you do have to make sure all of the lines are pegged down on the front and back (soemthing we never had to worry about with the Gelert)
We found it very easy to erect with its fibre glass/steel pole combination, and pegging the poles into the retaining pins was very easy. You might need the help of others if it is windy when you pitch - as the tent is very tall, and catches the wind very easily.
It has a 5000mm hydro head - and the quality of the fabric shows. It has really chunky zips - with the fabric 'sealing' them in, to stop any weather getting in. The sewn in groundsheet drops down on the front, so you do not to have to 'step' over the sheet to get into the tent.
The bedroom pods will take either a double airbed, or 2 sleeping mats, but they are not wide enough to accomodate 2 single airbeds. This was not a problem for us, and you can unzip a divider in the middle bedroom - converting it into a large bedroom, with space for all your clothes etc.
The living space is large enough for 8 people to sit inside on a rainy day, with lots of windows, so you can see when the rain clears up. With 3 doorways, there is no problem with the tent becoming stuffy.
Just a couple of points to consider - other tents now seem to come with storage pockets as standard, and this has none - with none available as an optional extra. And the sun porch could do with having detachable sides.
These are just 2 very minor niggles - but for this amount of money, you can buy cheaper tents with these as standard.
Overall we are very pleased with this tent, and I am sure it will last for many years worth of camping trips!

Bought this for it's metal poles as I wanted to replace a fibreglass tunnel which hadn't stood up well in high winds.
Initially I was disappointed that the living area wasn't a little larger, 2.4 x 4m, but the huge head height and steep-sided walls with plenty of windows soon made me change my mind and I ended up feeling it was quite spacious.
The bedrooms are made of a darker material which helps you to stay asleep when morning light hits the tent.
It took us about 50 mins to get up first time, but the front-door wall didn't sit flush with the ground, nor did the bedroom pod, so we may need more practice, it definitely needs two adults to erect.
I don't like the front door as it doesn't seal completely and we added Clingons and pegs but would have preferred it to zip shut.
The new 2009 version has separate bedroom pods which means you can make a bit more floor space, ours isn't so we used it for the toilet and bags.
Hasn't been tested by the elements yet, but it did feel very safe and sturdy. Will update this review if that changes.
UPDATE: Pitching instructions:
1. If using footprint, peg out remembering 'bum to the wind'.
2. Lay out fly sheet, loosely peg back 2 corners.
3. Insert 5 fibre-glass roof poles.
4. Starting from back, insert metal leg poles, loosening straps on ring/pin connections as you go.
5. Gather up poles (1 person on each side of tent).
6. Walk forward pulling tent up.(leave front door open to allow tent to fill with air).
7. With 1 person holding front canopy, the other pegs central guy lines at front and then back.
8. With one person on each front canopy pole, pull tent to ensure it is aligned correctly.
9. Peg out skirt and guys.
10. Insert side entrance poles and peg out.
We now leave the bedroom pod permanently attached to save time and to ensure it fits. We bought a larger cargo back (140L) to accommodate extra size of rolled tent with pod.
All this now takes us 30 mins. Hope it helps!

This fantastic new invention turns a can of drink into a sealed bottle, protecting drinks from being spilt, keeping out creepy crawlies, and keeping fizz in. They are a must for any camper or caravanner.
