We upgraded our tent from a 6 man Gelert tent which was great when the kids were smaller but with 4 kids (2 teenagers) and a very tall other half we needed plenty of space. Headroom in this tent is great we used the large 4 man pod for the kids to sleep in we had a 2 man pod and used the other for storage. Incidently the 2 man pods fitted a double airbed in them I know in the past we've seen some that don't. The first outing we had was to a very wet Cornwall last summer and the tent stood up to the elements really well.

As the weather was bad we spend a few of the nights having to sit inside instead of being able to sit out while the kids played on the park and we had plenty of room in there for the table and our 6 chairs which was great. I didn't once hear the kids moaning that someone was in there way or Mum tell them to move so think everyone was pretty happy on that score.

We didn't have the canopy as we mistakenly thought our chances of sunshine when we went to Cornwall in August were pretty good. How wrong we were! Another family on the site had one and we could see how useful it would have been so bought one as soon as we came home.

All in all a really good buy. We would suggest you get the 8 man if you are going to have 6 people staying in there I think we would have struggled for room in the 6 man.

This is our second tent. We originally had a 6 (allegedly) man tent but found it constrictive for our family (2 adults, two teenage girls and a 9 year old son). I bought this tent from Woolworths for £90 as it was end of line, probably the best £90 I've ever spent.

It was easy to put up, in both torrential rain and high wind, both of which we experienced on our first outing. The advantages of putting the outer up first were clear early on. The three pods were easy to put up, and very flexible, there are two 2 man pods (perfect for our 2 girls and son) and a large pod for 4 or can be split into two 2man (pic above makes it clear!). We used all pods, but will probably use just 2 in future for more storage.

The main room is great, we had a table and 5 chairs up all the time (the weather was dire) and it didn't feel cramped.

The side doors are a bit of a pain when it's raining, so we've now bought the additional canopy for the side.

All in all for our first proper camping trip as a family it was great, and the kids are more than happy to go again. It was excellent in the rain, although as we put it up in the rain some water did get in through the doors as we were erecting (our fault I suspect), and was also fine in the 50 mph wind we had. If it can stand that, I'm sure it'll stand anything.

In closing, would I recommend? Yes, wholeheartedly, I would even say I'd happily have paid the full price for it.

We have just returned from our first camping trip in the Gelert Horizon 8. We had upgraded from a small 4 man tent. We are only a family of 4 but having recently camped in bad weather in the small tent with another family in a big tent you realise you need good living space to cater for all British weather! My husband is 6ft4in so we needed a tent with good head room in all living and sleeping areas. The tent has 3 bedroom pods to hang inside once the outer tent is erected, 2 bedrooms will take a double or 2 single airbeds and they hang at one end together. The other bedroom is one large bedroom that goes from one side to other and can be divided by a curtain if you wish, we didn't bother as the kids like to be able to see us. This also fits 2 double airbeds in, we have got one of the Gelert triple layer airbeds so it feels like a real bed! The good points: Easy to erect, 1hr total including all pegging and bedrooms etc, same to dismantle, easy to roll up into bag, sewn in groundsheet keeps rain and bugs out, 3 doorways that can be used, option to leave 1 or 2 bedrooms out for more space, you can prop up either side door with 2 poles to form a canopy Bad points: canopy no use in rain as it is also the door, it would be nice to have velcro straps to tidy uo guy ropes when packed away. Sewn in groundsheet is great apart from the fact this always needs drying so you have to get whole tent out, but I would rather this option than no SIG. However my bad points are minor niggles and I am very pleased with my choice of tent and I am sure will get many happy years camping out of it. We bought separate canopy which was great as it keeps rain off door when going in and out and you can eat and cook under it, we kept our cooker under it and wellies etc. I chose a tunnel tent as they are easy to put up and didn't want a huge 8mx8m dome tent as some sites wont take them, this tent measures approx 7.5mx3.5m so most sites will take it. I have now ordered the Gelert Breeze Breaker wind breaker for our next trip to give us a bit more privacy & shelter from wind.

Just spent a week in some of the worst weather known to man in North Wales in our new Horizon 8. Galeforce winds and driving rain, and this tent was fantastic. Not a drop of water leaked in and was draft free. Plenty of ventilation if required, as there are 3 openings in the tent. Easy to erect and dismantle. Great space and excellent bedroom options. We received a free canopy with our tent, and I would advice others to invest in this piece of equipment, as it enabled us to keep cooking whatever the weather could throw at us. All in all a great tent for anyone starting out camping or for the seasoned camper.

We used our brand new Horizon 8 last week. We chose this tent because it looked the part and it gave us the space we need. We had camped previously in an average 4 man tent, but this was luxury by comparison. It was erected within 30 mins and fully pegged out and everything inside within the hour. Very easy to erect and take down by 2 novice campers.

Lots of space inside for furniture, we actually used one of the bedrooms as a store room and dressing room.

The tent seemed very airy and bright. The weather was fantastic, but it did pour down during one night, and we never even noticed. Obviously well waterproofed.

The door closure is a bit fiddly, I would have preferred a complete zip closure, but I'm nit picking! The tent is first class and I would highly recommend it to anybody considering buying this tent.

We went for our first camping weekend last weekend with this tent. We took our seasoned parents with us who were very impressed with the tent. My husband is 6ft 5in and the headroom was the major factor in picking the tent in the first place. It really functions well and is very flexible. We tried the kids in their own inner tent the first night but that didn't last long. So we all very comfortably fitted in the main inner tent. Double air bed and 2 singles on either side cosy and meant they slept. Using one inner tent made a brilliant area for the cooker and coolbox etc which could be blocked off to keep kids out. We loved it and it did rain and blow and sunshine. Being able to open up all the doors provides brilliant ventilation aswell as a window in the inner tent. The water proofing rate of this tent is very high for the price we paid. My only criticism is it could have let in more light.

It went up in around 40 mins (were novices and it was very easy) and I took the tent down myself without hubby. All in all a brilliant versatile family tent.Definitely got me bitten by the bug even my pampered husband enjoyed it.

We are a family of 5 and need lots of space. This tent has bags of room even with all the bedrooms up. You can stand up everywhere, even in the bedrooms, which gives a very spacious feel when you are in there. This tent is very easy to put up and takes very little time (about 20 minutes between 2 of us) which is great when the kids just want to get it up and move in. It has lots of pockets in each room to keep books and torches safe and the added bonus of the hanging pockets in the main living area is great for storing all your little items that you want to keep to hand. The sewn in groundsheet makes it less drafty and more waterproof (Our old Vango tent did not have and it was very drafty and rained in very often). The only advice I would give is to make sure the little flaps at the bottom of the doors are pushed outside otherwise the rain does come in off the door (I know because it happened on our first night). All in all, this tent is fantastic and we are looking forward to our next trip at the weekend.

This is the first family tent we have bought and we are very pleased with it. We wanted lots of space- which it has and height also- you can stand up fully even in the bedrooms. There are handy storage places and hanging points inside as well as different doors. The internal tents can be hung or left out as you like. It's very big and with all the different options is great for families or sharing.

We've used it twice now. The first time was for a sunny weekend at Gower where the tent was great and went up easily. I took about an hour to get set up I'd say. The 2 other families were already there when we arrived and had left us a space in the middle. However, this tent really is big and we ended up being a bit too close together. We'll know next time! Second time we were at a festival with some more challenging weather. It was seriously wet and windy at times but the only rain that came in was from opening and closing the door. We came home with a tiny hole in the tent fabric (a spark from the fire) which doesn't look like it's going to rip at all but i'll patch it anyway and a little tear in the fabric that covers the zip (zipping and unzipping all the time in the rain and the flap kept getting caught. We need to be more careful of this).

I've been looking to buy the extra canopy because I think that would be good for cooking in light rain and for keeping the rain out with the door open. Although there are poles supplied to put the door up as a porch we haven't done this and I don't think it'll be any good in rain and it's not really big enough for more than two to sit under. We also haven't had the side (end) door open either because we put the bedrooms in both ends.

All in all I think it's a great tent. I'm glad that we payed a bit more for a sewn-in ground sheet. The poles, the zips and the fabric held up well to the punishment they got from the weather and the drunken campers at the festival. Would a cheap tent have burnt down, blown away or ripped to shreds?.Dunno. It's really easy to pitch although it does take time to peg it all down properly. And we've got it back in the bag a total of 4 times and 4 different ways! There's enough space inside to allow for chairs, toys and equipment and without the need for military organisation. I think this tent will last us well.

Just the job for family camping from 2 - 6 comfortably. It's not too heavy or complicated even for grandmother and grand-daughter camping alone, who like good looks, roomy but light and cosy living space plus the facility of using a spare inner tent as a walk-in wardrobe. We prefer to have a choice of entrance to allow for inclement weather and we like to give ourselves a gazebo-like facility with the extended sides during the good weather.

This is a fantastic piece of kit. It is spacious, tall, is flexible and even has velcro hanging points along the middle of the tent. We put two double beds into the large bedroom and use one other bedroom as storage. The second small bedroom is not put up. This leaves an L shaped living area, which is perfect for playing! This tent also has plenty of sealable ventilation and windows.

I've also got the extra optional canopy which is fantastic. It helps to stop rain coming into the entrance on windy days.

It took 2 of us 30 minutes to set up on our first go.

The only thing that could make this a 10 star tent would be if it had a skylight! Which to be fair is rare on tents.
