9 Reviews of the 300 Standard Pod
By: Pingvin Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2001 Rating: Date: 08/09/2012
This is a great tent, mine is from 1997 and still going strong. I bought it second hand (at least 2 previous owners), one toggle was loose and the colour was a bit faded.
As pointed out by other reviewers it offers lots of space because of the triangular flaps that pull the sides outwards when the guy lines are used, so the sides are not sloping as much as in other domes.
I can put his huge tent up on my own, but have never managed to do this without the help of a pole I put in the middle to support the tent until all the four corners are guyed out. And I have learned to zip the sleeping pod dividers to the roof before the tent is up, otherwise I'll have to bring a ladder!:-D
Once up the tent is extremely windproof.
There is very good and flexible ventilation.
I have the 3x3m tent, comfort awning, extension, and front with windows. I felt the extension was a bit dark, so I have added two 'DIY'-windows (sewn in, fabric glue plus seam sealer)with blinds I can take off. My next project will be a mesh window with a clear cover in the door.
I would have liked some extra guy lines to the sides and the back of the tent, to avoid the upper part of the sides bulging so much inwards in the wind.
As many others I like to put the poles in the extensions in an angle to make the construction more stable, of course when I do this the mudflaps split the wrong place.
I expect to have many years of happy camping in this tent!

We turned to Karsten because we have a growing family and wanted a tent which was quick and easy to put up and down single headedly, would stand up to harsh weather while having the modularity to expand with a growing family.
After discussing the various options (tent size, colour, awnings, extra windows etc) with Suzie at the Camping Travel Store it was clear the level of customer service would match the high quality and design of the tent itself. We ended up going for a Karsten 300 with sleeping modification, comfort awning, extension awning (c/w two optional windows), front wall (c/w window set) and rain awning. We decided on the 300 over the 325, because the size of the 300 and sleeping extension (3m +2m) will fit on a standard C&CC pitch size.
The tent looks absolutely stunning when pitched, and inside the quality and attention to detail is superb, Karsten have obviously put a lot of thought in to all areas of the tent. The ease of pitching the tent (approx 10 min’s to inflate the main pod, and 50 min’s all up with awnings) has meant we now camp more often with the Karsten; the tent also provides the flexibility of just pitching the main pod for a single night, and with awnings for longer stays.
The tent also performs really well in all weather conditions - it has been well tested in heavy rain, high winds (very quiet), and during a heat wave – where the adjustable air vent in the roof and large lower vents in the main pod came into their own.

After much searching we decided that a Karsten was most likely to be the tent for us. We visited the Karsten display at Newbury this year where the majority of the range was on view. We were made very welcome by Suzie and James King who own the Camping Travel Store based in Buntingford. Seeing these amazing tents in the flesh showed us why they are rated as the Rolls Royce of Tents. They are superb in every way. Another couple were in the process of ordering one while we there. We went away and discussed which model to go for and settled on a model 325 with sleeping extension, comfort awning, end wall and rain awning. Our concern as to whether it would fit in our new Fiat 500 was unfounded as it all goes in complete with all our other camping gear.

FANTASTIC! Being a single mum, this tent (Karsten 300 comfort awning and front wall with rain awning) has been amazing, I can erect it (pump up, awnings zipped on, all pegged down and everything inside) in 40 mins, alone! The air filled tubes are not to be mistaken for lilo type but once filled are as solid as the tyres on your car. Looked at them for two years and held back because of the cost, but well worth it, for stress free camping.

Just recently bought a second hand Karsten with very little use. The quality of these tents is amazing, lots of really clever touches that makes these tents in a league of there own. We have spent years using a Coleman Bispace 500 which is a good tent but as soon as you get a good strong wind they fold up. The price of a Karsten seems astronomical and yes it is but at the same time this is the rolls royce of tents and you definitely get what you pay for and will outlast a standard dome by many times over.
Its not just the quality of the build, these tents peg out and erect in such a way it maximises the room of the tent so well, you have to see one up close to really get to grips with how good these tents are

Best tent we have ever used. We have 2 kids and a dog and it's brilliant. We used it in storms in Scotland and it stayed dry and warm. The price is high but if you are going to do alot of camping its well worth it

I just love it ! We camp in all weathers and it has never let us down in 6 years. The price is expensive but you get what you pay for - super quality. We add a section each year so spread the cost and the tent grows with our family.

I agree with jimjam . He got me into camping by lending me one of his Karstens.
Yes incredibly good tent even my wife who is a room service holiday type enjoyed the experience. If we really get the bug then I'm sure we will be saving up.
I went shopping for 20 mins and by the time I got back the tent was up the 2 front awnings wear up and pegged and he was just putting the kettle on.Impressive !

Fantastic Tent - Only Draw Back is the Price - Once you have used one in really bad conditions, you'll understand just how good they are - and start saving.
Easy to put up & storm & draftproof - Simply fantastic.

Manufacturer's Description
Karsten 300 inflatable storm-proof tent.
Karsten’s inflatable tents have demonstrated their quality over the years. They are no ordinary tents. Witness the top quality materials used, the sturdy construction, the excellent ventilation, their sheer spa-ciousness, and the perfect finish. What distinguishes the Karsten tents from other quality tents, however, is the fact that they are inflatable. The modern dome-shaped models and porch tents are up in no time - it’s only a matter of inflating the tube(s). This can be done with a small foot pump, a 12V compressor or, better yet, a bottle of compressed air. That’s all it takes. Taking down the tent is even faster due to the high pressure inside the tubes. The tents will resist even the worst weather imaginable.
