3 Reviews of the Montana 8
By: Tony_brown Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating: Date: 05/09/2010
Bought this in late 2009 ahead of our summer camping holiday on the continent in August 2010. Put up once to test and found it extremely easy to erect and take down. My tent has been very well made, with good spec on paper (7m x 3m, 5,000mm HH and taped seams) and at a very good price (Amazon). Twice, in France, we had very heavy rain (one a very heavy storm that came in from the Channel) with the only water penetration coming in through the door zip (I hadn't velcro'd the flap properly !). Once closed properly it was bone dry.
Good points - four full size doors with Mozzy nets and large and clear windows, windows in the bedrooms (at ground level), plenty of guy lines and large living area. Comes with a big bag that you don't have to squash everything in. Bedrooms have vertical'ish walls rather than sloping as with some tents which can be claustrophobic. Living area has light grey roof panels allowing light in where you need it. Has masses of ventilation openings.
Bad points - just a few - annoying rather than bad - the valance between the tent wall and the ground is a bit short for none level pitches and could do with being and extra 3 or 4 inches deeper, the valance on the doors is mounted on the mozzy net inner door meaning, when you are in the tent with the mozzy net rolled up and just the door zipped shut, water and wind can blow in. As I don't want the light restricted by having to put the mozzy net down to make it water and windtight, I am going to have a strip sewn on to my doors to correct this !. It would also be superb with a sewn in groundsheet rather than the tub groundsheet, which again would have been better with a few more inches added in height. Finally the outer rigid poles each have to fit through small sleeves which fasten the tent's front and rear walls to the guy lies which are fiddly to fit and would have been better with clips like they have further down to attach them. Other than these problems I love the tent and we have just used it once more to good effect in the Peak District.
In summary - it is a large, spacious tent with good features, in muted blue and grey, well made, easy to erect and take down and good value for money. What more could you ask for ?

Excellent easy to put up (takes 2 people )and is so big you can live in it more than just sleep in it. Only prob we have had is we upgraded to breathable ground sheet and every morning had droplets of water on ceiling but this did not happen due to fault of tent. Very large front opening and two side doors provide plenty options. Sleeping inner tents elastic straps could be stronger as two of ours have snapped but cant find any 'spares' on line yet. Would recommend this tent to anyone with either experience or first timers who have large family or lots of equipment and love space.

Great large tent, did what it said on the tin. We went last year to Dorset for a week, 2 adults + 2 children. Loads of room and easy and quick to put up (even in the rain). The weather was bad, high winds and heavy rain, no leaks and tent held up well in the winds, might get better pegs though. Only down points are one of the eyelids on the entrance came away, easy fixed. And the separate groundsheets, Believe the Skandika Milano8 has a fitted one and might be a better option for the extra cost. Brought on eBay, direct from Skandika at bargain price.

Manufacturer's Description
A flatlet out of the pocket! Roomy - easy to pitch - high quality!
It is a child's play to pitch the tent, which even withstands the strongest winds.
The entrance can also be used as a sun-roof. The roomy middle part of the tent provides ample space for baggage, groceries and everything else needed when camping.
Strong: the poles. Flexible, but at the same time shatter-proofed 11 mm fibreglass.
Breathable inner tent material - ideal for allowing fresh air in. And this means the tent has an ideal climate in all weathers!
Extra resilient water column. A tent is considered waterproof even at 1.200 mm (47.2'')! The Montana model offers 3.000 mm (118'')! A miracle? No!- just miraculous PU-coated polyester! This also makes the tent UV-resistant and especially storm-proof.
The water column describes the quality and strength of the coating. The higher the water column, the more water-resistant the coating (...and the higher the price).
The tent comes in a handy pack complete with numerous accessories such as guy lines, stakes, and easy to read assembly instructions. A repair kit is also included.
The ground floor for the living room (as shown in the pictures) is included.
The MONTANA model! So durable, the kids of your kids will still be camping in it.
