10 Reviews of the Airbeam Velocity 300

By: Paulandsue  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2011   Rating:   Date: 01/08/2014

Bought this tent new in 2013, I wanted something for me and the dog that was easy to pitch in the dark and quick for winter camping. I wanted the red one after deciding on the airbeam. The 2013 model only has a HH of 3000 and 6000 for the 2011 one. My only 2 problems are 1 door has a mesh but the other dose not. The mesh helps with draught. Condensation is a big problem, so big that when I strike camp on Sunday am I just bundle it in the boot and sort it out at home, otherwise a good 5 mins with the towle and get some heat on. Seriously thinking of getting a 8 man airbeam for the family replacing our higear kalahari 8.

I have used the Velocity 3 times in the last 3 weeks, both for 2 night stays

The tent has leaked both times when it has rained. The second time it leaked very badly. The last use of it on Wednesday this week one of the air beams also exploded with a ferocious bang as it was quite a windy day (but nothing to bad really!)- It also leaked again, it cannot take any rain on the roof and it gathers in big pockets of rain which then seep through.

We had to cut short our camping holiday as even the puncture repair kit provided didnt stop the leakage and the beam constantly deflated. Very annoying & a ruined holiday!

All in all I have found it to be useless and a complete waste of time. I will be writing to Vango & wanting my money back

I bought this tent for me and my 2 small children for quick overnight trips. I wanted something that I could easily put up by myself and with a decent sized living area for the kids to play in if the weather was bad. I did a test pitch yesterday and including pegging out the whole thing took me 15 minutes! Pumping up the beams was very easy and required a lot less effort than I'd expected. It's really quick to pack away too, just unscrew the valve and the tent is down in seconds. I was impressed with the space in the tent and would be happy to use this for more than just overnight stays. All in all a great piece of kit.

I have just purchased this tent for myself. I used it in windy weather with two adults in and one dog. I love this tent as it is so so easy to put and take down. I purchased this as wanted a tent I could put up easily by myself and have to say it was an absolute doddle to put up. The longest part to set up is emptying the car of the bedding, clothes, cooking equipment etc.I found pumping up the 'poles' really easy to do and to take down it rolled up well and went easily back into the bag.

All in all I have to say that airbeam tents must be the way forward and would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to spend extra time relaxing rather than putting poles together!

As an older camper I found messing with poles etc becoming a bit of a pain and thought I would try an airbeam and have never looked back. So easy and quick to put up and quiet warm and water tight. To deflate the tent though I found it a bit awkward on my own as all the air must be expelled before you fold it up or you will have real problems getting it into its bag but once mastered it takes no longer than a tent with poles . I find the tent sits well on the back of my motorcycle without to much over hang either side and is with in the width of the handle bars . What did impress me with the Airbeam was just how stable it is in windy conditions , I also found that the little flaps where you inflate the beams serve well for hookup cables to pass into the tent. OK the airbeams are not cheap but the build quality is great and to me is worth the extra cash like the old saying you get what you pay for

Having previously tested the Airbeam 300 in strong winds, I have now tested it in 4 days of medium precipitation in Snowdonia. No problems encountered other than the previously mentioned inflation problems at the initial pitching. After numerous e-mails to Vango about this problem, I am still waiting a response. All in all a good tent.

We have recently purchased the Vango 300 airbeam tent and have found that it is an easy and quick tent to put up. It is a little bulkier and heavier than a normal tent and the only real major downfall of the tent is that it suffers very badly with internal condensation even with the vents open, first thing in the morning there was always loads of condensation on the inside of the tent, which drips everywhere if you are not careful.

The Velocity 300 is a great tent, well tested in strong winds, gusting up to 45 - 50 mph. No problem. Waiting to test in torrential rain. No exploding or deflating airbeams experienced so far. HOWEVER, two gripes on my behalf are, the most important being, the beam inflating system is very poor for one person to control the pump and maintain the pressures recommended by Vango. The air hose keeps blowing off the connector making pressure reading virtually impossible. My second being a minor gripe, is, the main porch door as only two pieces of velcro at the bottom. In strong winds, the opening flaps around a bit. A third piece of Velcro in the middle, would produce a solution to this draft problem. After making my amendments, ALL IN ALL A GREAT TENT.

Great little tent. Took my husband minutes to pitch it. On our first night we were all warm whilst others in our party were cold. Very easy to pack back up. Didn't rain so can't comment on waterproof properties but I don't doubt it. Seemed spacious even though it is fairly small. Great size for two people and a dog but think it would be cramp with three people but that goes for most tents.

Nice tent, the poles hardly take any inflating - one went down in the morning though and needed a quick top up. Was stable in the wind and no water got in when it rained.
