I bought one of these to go camping with my Cub pack. I wanted something big enough for one but with space for gear and perhaps also my young son for dad/son bonding trips. It's pretty well made for a tent that costs less than fifty quid but do buy yourself twenty decent tent pegs as the ones that come with it will bend on the first strike of a mallet. Go Outdoors say the tent will go up in ten minutes. It probably will after your first attempt, but give yourself more time the first time it comes out of the bag.
I would say that 3 berth is very optimistic, though 2 should be ok, but its not that long for the taller camper - happily I'm not! I also wonder why the groundsheet isn't sewn in at the porch and this is perhaps my biggest criticism of it.
Anyway, it's a £50 quid tent and if you use it for the occasional camping trip, I'm sure you'll be ok with it.

Bought this to use at a festival for me and my husband. Has a HH rating of 2000 which concerned me a bit given all the rain we have been having this summer. It pitches fly first, easy to put up. The inner sleeping area has a SIG and the fly a small air vent at the back. The front of the inner thing also has an zippable window at the front to let more air in which was quite good. Also liked the inner pockets for putting in my watch, torch, glasses, bling etc. The sleeping area could potentially sleep three very skinny people side by side who are no more than 5 ft 6 in height and would stay ramrod straight all night.Not likely and I found it too short for my husband who at 6ft 2' was pushing at the inner with his feet despite his head being up against the top edge of the SIG. We used a self inflating mat to sleep on which was fine - if you wanted to use a dbl blow up mattress in this you would have to get it in the sleeping area first and then blow it up. Once the sun came up the tent got hot v quickly. It rained solidly for about two hours one morning and a few drips came in to the tent so exchanged it for a new one at GO. Porch area good for storage. Apart from the issues with the leaks thought this was a great little tent for the price (£25 from GO)but if the replacement leaks again I would score it at 5.

I bought the Atom 3 for weekends away, as an alternative to my Kalahari 10.
Fist trip out was on the Jubilee weekend, To Marton Road Farm, Long Itchington.
The Atom 3 is very easy to put up, didn't need the instructions. Very warm and dry, considering the weather conditions.
For a new tent to stand up to high winds and 24 hours of torrential rain, is £50 well spent.
There is ample space for two people not three, I rigged up a tarp canopy, over my wind break, this gave me plenty of dry cover and cooking space.
My daughter was so impressed with the Atom, she has bought one. Cheddar and Bourton-on-the-water here we come

I bought one to carry on my motorcycle it,s the perfect size and has been put to good use. Packs away very easily and put,s up in no time. I camped in Cornwall last year in October it stood up to a gale very well with no leak,s.T is incredibly simple to pitch (fly first) and you can do this single handedly. A full set of fairly concise instructions are sewn inside the tent bag. The poles (only 3 of them) are colour coded as are their sleeves on the flysheet, simple. The ring and pin system for the end of the poles is easy to use although care should be taken whilst inserting the pins in the poles. Once this is completed, you simply peg to the ground using the appropriate pegging points. The inner tent is then laid out and attached using a simple hook and eye set up on the inside of the flysheet. The inner tent has a sewn in groundsheet (SIG) with the porch groundsheet attached which is pegged out on completion. Pre-attached guys are attached which are the last thing to be pegged out. All in all, it is a very simple tent to pitch but nonetheless incredibly stable once done. The porch has two entry points, one at the front and one at the side. Both these can be opened together to provide a good level of ventilation or, give you the option of which door to use depending upon the prevailing weather conditions.

I bought this as a B&B tent for overnight stops en route to main site for holidays in France. It worked really well for this purpose but, not yet tested it in the rain. Just the opposite in fact - experienced the HOTTEST night I've known for years on way to main site. Tent is easy to put up, and feels like a 'proper' tent not a toy. Only niggles are the groundsheet in the porch - shame it's not a zig or a bathtub style, as I'm sure wet would get under the edges, which would damp any kit left in the reasonably-sized space. OK headroom in the bedrooms but NOT a three-berth unless you use SIMs and are VERY good friends. Just enough for two to be honest. Folds up into a neat package <5kgs and suits our purposes admirably. Rig up a tarp canopy and you have a good space for weekend camp. The Mighty Atom (and we bought him for a good price) does what is says on the tin.

I own a very large 8 man tent, plus a small 3 man tent very similar to this one. The reason for buying this was because we went travelling around Italy and needed a tent that was compact and light weight to take on the plane. Our large tent clearly was not an option, and the smaller one I have is old and rather bulky. When comparing all the tents in go outdoors, with minimal budget, this was the best option.
I agree with the previous review. It did all well for 2 weeks camping (2 people). My husband being 6ft 2 only just fits in it - he has to sleep on a slant a little but never complained.
It did leek very much the first time it rained but was completely fine after that. I think it just needed a good soaking to water proof it so I have no worries for future weather.
It always packed back into the bag easily, and it very light weight for lugging it about.
Unlike my other small tent, I thought it would be great that this one has windows, but actually it was a nuisance. Our 2 weeks was so hot (other than the 1 day of rain) that we were leaving the 'bedroom' door open when we slept at night - but it did mean people could see right in! just a personal thought.
So very pleased - did us proud for 2 weeks and saved a lot of money!

I recently purchased a HiGear Atom 3 in order that my son (8) and I can head off for weekends camping together. We as a family also own an Outwell Hartford L but this is too large for just my son and I so we needed something smaller and more manageable.
Ideally, we needed a tent that would be comfortable and large enough for 2 or possibly 3 should the need require. The tent should have a reasonable sized porch area and my preference was for a dome style tent as, in my opinion, they offer mare stability than a tunnel tent. We were also working to a budget of around £60.00 max. After much research and humming and aghing, we opted for the Atom 3.
I had not heard of this make before but after posting a thread on this forum, I discovered that HiGear are effectively Gelert but rebranded for Go Outdoors. This made the choice somewhat easier as Gelert are an established and respected brand.
After my purchase I was initially disappointed because, whilst pitching the tent in my garden for the first time, I discovered a hole in the flysheet which actually looked like the result of a burn. Anyway, following another 120 mile round trip to my nearest Go Outdoors outlet, and a short inquisition by someone from the tent department I was allowed to exchange my tent.
On my return home, I discovered the replacement tent also had a hole in the flysheet. This hole however was much smaller than the first so rather than drive another 120 miles I repaired the hole myself. The lesson to be learnt here is check your tent before you leave the store.

The tent provides ample space for two when using airbeds, but if you were to accomodate 3 persons, an airbed is a luxury you would have to forego. This would not however be a problem if you were hiking and only using sleeping mats. The porch provides a good sized storage area, the only downside here is that because the porch groundsheet is not sewn in, the porch can be prone to draughts. This could have been improved by having a bucket type groundsheet in the porch area which attaches to the flysheet or by having flaps on the flysheet in the porch are to alleviate draughts. Coincidentally, the porch groundsheet is not detachable.
Having slept in the tent, I did notice quite a bit of condensation; however, I attribute this to being out on a particularly chilly March night. I can say that both my son and I remained very warm and dry. We have yet to test the tent in wet and windy conditions but, having given the tent a thorough once over, I am pretty confident it will not let us down. Packing the tent away is a breeze.
Overall, I am very happy with this tent. It is ideal for weekends away and because it is fairly lightweight, suitable for hiking. The only reason I haven't rated it higher is because of the holes I discovered in 2 new tents, and the fact that the porch area could be improved. Would I recommend this tent to people - Yes.
