10 Reviews of the Havana 6

Has couple nice touches, but I am absolutely disgusted I have brought this tent 2.5 months ago, used it for the 1st time last week we managed to stay 24 hrs before the poles bent in strong winds with bedroom pole about to snap. I can't believe after reporting to the retailer world of camping & being told by unipart who use royal as a trading name that they already don't make the tent now or ANY parts! That I have no option to be left with a tent that cost £300 I have no options but to try tent spares in Leicester who also said they can't get poles. So AVOID this tent as unless world of camping can do something I have cost myself £300 for 24 hours use which is dearer than a night in a city hotel! Only to stay in a tent that came down & will cause me a painful challenge of explaining to a 5 & 6 yr old whilst we can't go camping for summer hol next month all due to Royal who have traded 19 yrs not to have foresight of what uk weather chucks at us at times. I did try to talk to a manager or director at world of camping but told the directors are on holiday! The manager on mat leave, I asked who is your person in charge only to be advised we don't know?

After researching a great deal of 6-9 berth tents and the pros and cons of owning a very large tent we opted for this little number. Far from being a compromise, it is a fantastic tent. It has three bedrooms if you attach the optional third inner. This is what we were looking foir as our boys are past the age where they will share. The bedrooms are at the back. The inner tent is large enough inside to cook, sit and arrange all of your camping paraphernalia. We had a practice at putting it up in the garden which took us an hour which reduced to about 45mins in high winds on the first campsite with 4 of us putting it up. We bought the carpet and the footprint which I was glad of as in torrential rain it kept the mud from the tent. Although this tent feels large you will not have to pay for a large tent pitch as it is standard 6 berth. It withstood rain and high winds in the lake district and although we did snap the elastic in one of the poles that was our fault due to the haste at which we were taking it down. It is noisy in the wind but I guess that what ones expects from a high performance material. Overall a very good upgrade from our Sunncamp tourist plus (old model) and it only took two years to decide on! We bought this from a site on ebay which takes returned tents and resells them after rectifying the problem. Paid £115 which we cannot believe as it is a total bargain.

Me my wife & 2 kids went camping last year for the first time, it was good but the tent we used was not, very small and no sewn in ground sheet which was very cold at night, so when we got home we went straight to our local camping shop an bought the HAVANA 6.
Best money I've ever spent, big tent plenty off room great living area plenty off windows, we love it. Would recommend the ground sheet as well. I just bought the carpet & the Hampton 4 canopy which I hope fits, can anyone help me on this one?? All in all this is a great tent and we can't wait to get camping again this year. :-)

Just bought the Havana 6 and put it up in back garden yesterday. Went up fairly easy and yes instructions are pretty bad, it does tell you which coloured poles to put in first but we used our common sense mainly to put it up. There's a lot of pegging of ground sheet and fly to do and a lot of guy wires. Took over hour to put up but mainly down to bad instructions and the fact my 16 yr old son was 'helping' definitely a two person job. Had main part of tent up in less than half hour, rest of time was spent figuring things out due to bad instructions, pegging guy wires, n ground and fly sheet.Overall pretty easy to put up and with practice and husband would imagine its much quicker. Didn't bend any poles yet but will be taking it down and back up a few times before we travel to France in July. Bought the footprint and carpet also, footprint is perfect fit and can be pegged down although it didn't come with pegs I discovered when pegging actual tent you could put pegs from that into footprint holes they were directly over them. The carpet very disappointed with, it doesn't fit, its two feet too short and is obviously meant to fit perfectly because it is shaped for front of tent and the back has two semi circle cut out bits for bedroom clips. Will be sending it back because it looks terrible and considering the cost not willing to make do. Overall very impressed with it great space and very sturdy. Will update later after several ups and downs

Our Nice new Havana 6 arrived last week, took a little over a hour to put up, and yes we to bent a pole because of the instructions which are useless. We have since erected this tent in 30 mins and take it down in about 20 mins.
The sleeping area could be better designed, we are a family of 6 and find it a bit cramped, so we got a pop up for the older kids, The living area is fab, we bought the footprint and the carpet and love the luxury of it. The tent is very sturdy when up, my only complaint is the front toggles of the sleeping area, they seem to pull rather a lot on the seams of the fly sheet, there should be extra canvas in that area as there is with the back toggles. Its a shame there is no additional canopy for this tent, however I believe from others in these forums the Royal Hampton 4 might fit, might purchase later on in the year. Cant wait to start camping.

Just put our newly acquired Havana up in the garden and it is fab! Taking advice from the other reviews here we didn't bother with instructions, the poles were all colour coded, and as long as you put the two cross overs in first it's a bit of a doddle, although def a two person effort I think! Now just need to organise a week somewhere to see how it performs.

Sangriagirl and I bought this for longer camping trips after realising last year that a week in a small dome tent can be too much!
We chose the Royal Havana 6 on the grounds that the steel poles should keep it up come hell, high water and high winds! It *is* a very large tent, should suit families. The sleeping area is adequate and the living area is huge, we were able to keep our rotary whirlygig dryer in there along with our table, clothes etc.
Pitching.Well throw away the instructions. They fail completely to mention the fibreglass parts of the poles and don't advise on what order to erect the poles. We managed to pitch in the garden in around an hour, and at the campsite in 40 minutes (with help from neighbours). With practise it will be a little quicker. One of the angle poles bent on the 2nd pitching, and I have read of a similar experience in another review. So be careful, and obviously replace anything during the warranty period.
During 2 weeks in Cornwall our tent survived moderate wind and some heavy rain without any issues. It is warm inside but can be well ventilated, it rarely gets too hot. There's a nice little zipper for the electrics and plenty of hangers and loops inside to hang things from. There are a few storage pockets above the bedroom doors, and the hight is great for tall people like me. My 6'2' frame (and about 3' wide!) is easily accommodated comfortably.
All in all, I wouldn't recommend the Havana 6 for a long weekend as it is more difficult and time consuming to pitch than your average dome tent. But for a longer trip it is fantastic. The material is thick and everything seems hardy and sturdy. We used the optional footprint but didn't bother with the carpet.
We did follow the instructions to wet the tent thoroughly twice before actually going camping, and on our first trip we had some heavy rain and no leakage whatsoever.
On the downside, having steel poles makes this quite a heavy tent at something like 32kg.

I have just bought this tent downgraded to it from my larger Lichfield. The first time we tried to pitch this a angled pole bent :( got it replaced and got it up no probs . Really easy 20 mins put it up looks larger on the inside than what it does on outside. We are a family of 6 (2 teenagers) and more than enough room we did electric last week for week in it and had tellys you name it with us and we still had room. I love the windows and it heats better than the Lichfield, we had heavy rain at one point and it never leaked really recommend it. Only downside is we had to open bedroom up and make it into one large room to sleep in but we didn't care go buy one if you can you wont regret it

We own the Havana 6 berth. Put it up in the garden on my own, took just over the hour. 2 weeks later we were pitching at Parklands campsite in Wisbech. Plenty of room , great thing is there is only 2 of us , though sometime daughter will tag along.Loads of head room and very spacious. Had a few admirers at the campsite.
I definitely requires 2 people to erect, brought the footprint groundsheet as well. Taking it down was easy though we didn't put the pole bag in with the tent. Kept them and the pegs separate, tent bag not so heavy.
We did see this tent erected before we brought it, was considering the Cuban 6 , until we found out that it comes in 2 bags.
This tent is such good quality, strong zips and metal/ fibreglass poles. Plenty of head room and loads of light.

Just taken ownership of our Havana 6 and we are thrilled with it. Have erected it in back garden and it went up relatively easily (although it did take an hour on our first go!). It does require 2 people to erect and we did have fun trying to hold 2 sets of poles at the same time to avoid them crashing down! However it is pretty straightforward once you get the knack. The Royal web page pdf instructions are not as detailed as they could be, and leave alot to the imagination.
Packing the tent away was very easy and was completed within 20 minutes.(We didn't bother with the instructions this time!)
We did take a gamble buying this tent as we could find no outlet who had this erected in a showroom. Even after my husband had marked out its footprint in the garden we were pleasantly surprised when the tent arrived.
The tent is well made. The outer materials, zips etc feel strong and robust. We viewed several other well known makes in our search and found some to feel quite cheap and flimsy. The Royal is not.
Inside there is so much space! We are a family of 4 (4 yr old twins) and I felt I needed a larger living space. However I was pleasantly surprised to see how much of the living space is usable within the Havana. You can stand up in all areas of the living space as the head room is great. My husband is 6ft tall and can just about touch the roof to hang the lantern on the attached ceiling loop.
As a result, the tent feels airy and the large front window and side windows let in a lot of light.
The tent comes supplied with extra poles so a porch can be made by opening up the large front window. However there is no insect mesh on this window/door unlike the others.
We have found 1 EHU zipped opening so far and also 1 in the inner tent.
We were hoping to use the dividing walls in the inner tent to separate us from the kids but will probably not bother as there does not seem to be a 50:50 configuration, as the inner tent is designed to be separated into thirds.
All in all as a ardent caravanner, who was not at all looking forward to camping, I can't wait to have some good holidays in our new Royal Havana 6.
