2 Reviews of the Mountain Manor 6

This tent is great for families or larger groups. We've used this one for years now and it is still doing fine. However, the fabric of the outer layer of the tent has become very brittle and tears easily and it started leaking as well. Although the latter was fixed easily with a spray that made it watertight again.

I got this in 2012 to 'replace' a Vango TBS Equinox 3 which ripped on pitching earlier in the year (will get a similar type sometime soon!).

It's the first 'standy-uppy' tent I've ever owned as I've been determined not to go the 'Billy Smart' direction of circus tents. It was purchased as a tent that would be quick to pitch, stand most things thrown at it and be a bit more comfortable for seaside stays & week-ends.

It's sold as a 6-man tent but they would have to be very friendly, sleeping side-by-side: I'd say 4 people would be it's limit for recreational use with all your clobber etc.

It comes in a large pull cord bag which is the best one I've come across for putting it all back with ease. Attached to it are diagrammatic instructions which are quite confusing as it indicates that there are differing side pole sizes(they are all identical).

The pitching is of 2 crossed DAC poles (12mm) with arched poles joining them toward the upper of each upright. This takes seconds to put up. A footprint makes erection easier as the poles will latch into the eyelets and will stay in. Ideally, 2 people are best putting it up but one person could do it with some dexterity.

The inner tent just clips onto the crossed poles and horizontal arch poles on each side with an additional pole above the main door entrance (after the fly sheet's fitted). The mesh roof is ideal for inner-only pitching in good weather and helps ventilation in conjunction with low-level vents openable from the inside on each side of the inner and the arched vents on the fly.

The fly sheet clips onto points on the inner as well as being held down by the pole ends and pegs (which are steel, solid & heavy).

The main entrance makes a fair size vestibule and has 2 triangle windows (something which I usually avoid in tents). The door can be rolled up or used with poles (200cm ones would be about right) as a sun shelter etc. The rear door is a single zip with a much smaller vestibule.

It's fairly solid without using any guy lines (which mine didn't come with). It has 4 pairs of loops on each corner so a single guy line could be configured for each pair. The one thing really noticeable are the relatively small mesh door vents compared to the actual door size so it's not possible to have mesh-only doors as they don't exist. The mesh roof of the tent goes help to keep it cool inside despite this but it would have been nice to be able to see out through them without having to look out the top few inches of the door.

There's quite a few mesh pockets towards the upper of the tent but no lower pockets of any kind. A gear loft could be added but I've not checked which would fit if using the central hook for a light (it can take quite a weight: my 3-D cell Maplin 3W LED lantern doesn't drop at all).

There are internal 'walls' which roll upwards with zips down the middle which you can divide the space inside up or just hide all your clobber behind.

It's expensive but, like my previous other North Face tent purchase, I didn't pay anywhere near that price.
