Friends and family laughed at my husband and I when we said we were buying a tent. We have had the privilege of being able to go on lots of luxurious worldwide holidays including cruises and safaris, but decided after speaking to people who went camping we would also look into buying one.

After visiting Go Outdoors and working our way around the variety of tents of different qualities, price and size we opted for the Nevada XL. There are only two of us, but we wanted a tent with lots of room so that we would feel claustrophobic or hemmed in.

The Nevada XL is light and airy with lots of room. We take out the dividing wall/sheet between the bedrooms so that out large king-size air bed can be accommodated. It still leaves enough room for storing bags/cases once the bed is inflated and pushed to one end of the space. We also bought a couple of storage cupboards which also serve as storage of crockery etc and a work surface or card playing table.

As we were new to camping we watched the video on YouTube of how to erect the tent (quite a few times) but were also a little worried when we saw the one with a leaking roof!

We bought the tent in the Go Outdoors sale for £279 early in August, along with the carpet and footprint – and everything else we needed to camp (bed, electric hook-up, cupboards, lighting etc etc) so it was quite a costly affair when you totted it all up. Then, after some pretty horrible weather, we booked a cruise and friends were making a variety of ‘offers’ on what they thought would be our redundant (never used) camping equipment.

How wrong could they be! The weekend following our return from cruise, we booked to camp 2 nights at a site in North Yorkshire and about a couple of hours drive from where we live. It was a damp weekend and not particularly warm, but we were convinced that if we didn’t do it then, we never would. The heater was most welcome and because the tent is so spacious, wasn’t overpowering. Then, after dinner, playing cards and having a glass of wine, the heavens literally opened. The noise was deafening and I was really worried that the whole thing would leak let alone the troublesome seam that others have referred to. It didn’t, we were bone dry and comfortably survived our first weekend enjoying the great outdoors!

After finishing work early on Friday 30th September and seeing that the weather forecast was good, we packed up and set off for our 2nd camping trip. This time we had the benefit of fantastic weather and used the ‘heater’ on it’s cold setting to keep the interior of the tent cool. Unfortunately two of the tent poles fractured and we had to do a makeshift repair with duct tape, but they held superbly well for the duration of the weekend, so we’ll get the replaced as soon as we can.

We’re now planning our main holiday for next year – no cruising for us, it’s a two week camping tour to Italy and back – with three nights at our favourite villa in between. As people who enjoy short breaks away, we think that the Nevada XL will get more than its fair share of weekends away – it’s so easy to just pack up the car and get away.

Just purchased this as a 'weekend' tent as we already have the Maryland XL and wanted a smaller tent that still slept 4 comfortably, with loads of living space and versatile bedrooms but that was half the weight and I have to say we are absolutely delighted!

This tent is fantastic, so easy to put up, I managed it on my own in 30 minutes. We also got the Nevada M front extension which we found fits really well if you extend(with more strapping) the straps which attach to the pole section over the top of the front of the Nevada XL. Definitely intend to get the side extension too though.

We got ours from ebay from a seller that deals in Go Outdoors returns and only paid £66.00 for the tent and £36.00 for the extension. Both were sold as used but in immaculate unused condition, apparently there were 'unspecified minor faults' but apart from the porch canopy poles.Which we all know are too long!. We haven't been able to find anything else wrong with either the tent or the extension, have also done the does it leak test, and no they don't!

Would recommend the XL to anyone, a great tent for a fantastic price if you shop around! Still intend to go away in the Maryland though but will stick the teenagers in the Nevada XL!

This is a fantastic tent easy to pitch took us 40mins first pitch (i not pitched a tent for years and wife has never pitched a tent)so very pleased. It has a huge living area with big windows with toggle curtains which can be fully closed, 1/2 open or fully open. I have marked it down one star because I have had to cut the pole down for the rain safe door, it is not a bad job to do and now the rain doesn't collect on the roof. I am really pleased with this tent and have spent a week camping in it 3 adults & 2 kids with plenty of room. I have bought the side extension for it but not used yet but feel this will prove to be a great purchase as it gives you somewhere to cook if the weather turns. All in all I would recommend this tent to anybody.

This is the second time myself and my partner have been camping in this tent and I must say I am over the moon! It's easy to pitch (took just 40mins for our first attempt) The full length windows are amazing as you really feel like your outside (draw back is the sun beams through leaving the tent really hot!) you can have the curtains on the windows half down or fully down which is good if you want the light but still want a little privacy. The 3 huge doors cool it down a lot and there is a fly sheet on a separate zip on each door so you can have the breeze without the flies/wasps coming in! The bedrooms are a good size and you can take one down for extra room, not that you'll need it as this tent is rather big. Some people have mentioned the rain safe door, not being able to get the pole in and ended up ripping their tent, but I haven't had any problem with this. However I do recommend that you put this pole in while your tent is still loose (not pulled tight and pegged in) and there should be no problems. The tent comes with plastic pegs but I would seriously advise anyone to buy metal pegs and take them along as spares as a the last campsite I stayed at had ground made of rock and the plastic pegs would not have stood a chance. They wouldnt hammer in further than 2inches, but on normal ground they are fine. There are plenty of pockets both inside and outside the bedroom to house all those little things and there is ample space to stand up in and walk around. Over all this tent is a great buy, if you find it on offer anywhere I would definitely recommend it. I bought mine from GoOuutdoors for £270.00 in August but im sure you could find it cheaper when the sales start.

First outing with this new tent. I love the design, the space, the windows, the idea or the tent. But like another reviewer, mine leaked too. Not as dramatic as the comedy video leak shown on youtube from another reviewer, but it was a steady drip from the central velcro holder of the roof stiffening bar. The double tape wasn't done correctly, so the hanging velcro was a bit of a mess, and in came the water, even during a minor shower. Plus we couldn't stop the doorway canopy collecting water; and we also split a pole somehow (not during pitching, and wasn't windy); and the pegs are practically single use-disposable if the ground is anything other then perfect. I do really like the design of this tent though, just wish it was built a bit better. Took it back for repair/refund. Might go for an alternative instead.

I just got one of these and took it on its first outing. I managed to break one of the poles putting it up but thankfully there was a spare, so after much fiddling around rethreading the elastic it was ok. The tent withstood a lot of wind and heavy rain, it didnt leak but felt like it was going to take off at times. I had a front extension which is a nightmare to put on as its designed for the M model so doesn't fit properly, but managed to tie it on and it was OK. The tent is huge and we sat 10 people inside comfortably. Some of the plastic pegs are flimsy and break or bend. All in all a good tent and am happy with it . But if I had extra money to spend I would get a Vermont XL instead for the sturdiness and the zipped in porch area.

Purchased recently as an upgrade from our ' cheap see if we like camping halfords tent' have pitched the tent this weekend ready for a trip next & absolutely love it! Extremely roomy and a huge living space we have also got the L side extension which will only add to this tent, carpet gives it a very luxurious feel, took about 30 minutes to pitch on our first attempt so hopefully we will get quicker from now on. Would not hesitate in recommending this tent.

Our first tent and would not hesitate to recommend it at all. Put it up in the garden- took 40 minutes first time and getting quicker each time- down to just on 25 mins now- two adults with a toddler round our ankles! Had it up in pouring rain and no leaks at all- with the extension out front it was great to leave the big front door open and be able to walk in and out without wetting the carpet. Would highly recommend getting the footprint and carpet too. The foot print means that you can plan exactly to the cm where you are putting the tent and the floor of the tent stays cleaner and dryer- its much easier to dry the footprint than the entire tent if the ground is soggy. I loved the zip between the bedrooms as I could just slide my hand through from our 'bedroom' to the toddlers to retrieve lost blankets etc- and even pull him through to us early one morning so he went back to sleep- great idea Outwell! One slight issue we had was that the electric hook up was on the opposite side of the tent to where the little zip for it is and our extension was not long enough to go round. We just slipped in under the other door, but one on each side would be good. The extension made a big difference at night too as we could sit under it and still be outside, but the sides provided a great wind break so it was not so cold. So the front door- unlike the side doors- could be opened without dripping in onto the carpet. We want to buy two extra poles and guy ropes for holding the doors up but we had sort of expected that to be included (at this price). All in all though we loved staying in it and having the space to sit the whole family down at a table for breakfast inside in the pouring rain was fantastic!

Where to start! We bought this a week ago and test pitched at home, all ok. Took away to a very wet and rainy Devon. The tent leaked! The inner pole was dripping like mad as the seam through the middle was leaking (I have uploaded a video on this too). There were massive puddles in the tent (on the carpet). Very dangerous as we have EHU! It turned out one half of this seam had not been taped so water just came in through the seams. I will upload some pictures

The rain safe door holds water and you end up with a massive puddle of water sitting on it. The pole for it was about 20cm too long and we had to cut it down (Outwell know about this).

Other than this it was a nice tent, it was large and bright and airy. Lots of windows and some nice touches but we got a refund as it was just no good for us with the leaking

All in all a nice tent but awful quality

Just used our new Outwell Nevada XL 2011 for the first time this weekend (July 2011).Easy to pitch - took about 1hour to pitch (only because we hadnt done it before). Withstood wind and rain this weekend-lots! No leaks. Bedroom area's had plenty of room.Fitted a queen size, double lair airbed in one of them with ease.Used the other for a changing room and toilet area. Lovely having two side doors and a very large one at the front as one of the days it would have been like a sauna if it didnt have these.

One problem with the side entrance rain door porch. The poles did not fit - were way too large. This has been noted in other reviews so should have been sorted by now but apparently, according to Yeomans where we got ours from it hasnt. They said they would send another pole that did fit but it would come direct from the manufacturers in Denmark so would take two weeks. My husband ended up taking his little hacksaw and sitting out in the sun making it fit for our trip until the proper one came. Not really good enough as its not exactly a bottom price range tent. On another note: the Outwell windbreaker broke as soon as it was pitched - the spokes at the top of each pole disappeared into the pole so the fabric had nothing to attach to. Will swap it for another as I want it to match the tent but will take it back if it happens again
