6 Reviews of the Tempest 200

By: HannahsMenagerie  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2016   Rating:   Date: 08/09/2017

I purchased this because the existing 2-man (1 woman and her dog) tent was too small for the current dog and me. After spending a lot of lunchtimes researching tents online and then a fun afternoon trying out the different tents for size in the local camping shop display field I decided that the tempest 200 was just what was needed. Spacious enough for the dog and me to sleep in comfort and with the added bonus of enough headroom for me to sit up in at it's tallest point but small and light enough to put in a rucksack. Even better I got it in the Go Outdoors sale.

Primarily I use this for one night stops where we arrive fairly late and depart early the next morning but I have also used it for wild camping.

Pitching is fairly quick and easy as is taking it down again. Both actions cam be completed in under 10 minutes provided a large hairy energetic dog isn't trying to help. I have managed to pack the tent up in under 5 minutes, it wasn't neat or tidy and needed sorting out later on but when, despite a covering of repellent, you are being eaten alive by Scottish midges in the pouring rain speed is more important than anything else.

This fantastic little tent has been all over and so far has stood up to all weather that has been thrown at it. Usually the dog and I are snug and warm in the sleeping compartment but on the few occasions when we wake up feeling slightly chilly it's because the temperature outside has dropped below zero and there is a layer of frost, ice or snow on the tent and ground.

The outer door has multiple zips which always confuses me when I have not used the tent for a month or two but it's great as you can open different bits of the outer door. It is lovely to be able to lie in your sleeping bag with just the top sections of the outer and inner doors open looking at the moon and listening to the wildlife around you.

The little porch area is cosy but has just enough space to store boots and rucksack in or, in a pinch, cook in.

All round a well made little tent.

I have a plan to walk the Pembroke Coast soon, and I can see the massive benefits already to owning the Tempest 200.

As yet, I have only pitched it in my back garden, but it is great.

Light-weight, evidently strong material, and I can just imagine how cosy it is going to feel.

Really happy with the purchase, and will re-post another review once used.

A pleased customer.

Purchased this tent purely for use by me wilding camping. First time purchased a Vango tent and straight away you can see and feel the quality compared to cheaper own brand tents. First test pitch on garden took slightly longer then usual as I was getting use to it's style of pitching and experimenting with the straps inside.

First time in the wild was up at Gaddings. Pitched up easily in the nearly darkness and was soon snug inside. Plenty of room for me, my bag and all my grub. Was very warm and tent stood up to wind well. Porch area offers extra space for boots and bag.

Fits well in the bag and wasn't a pain to carry about. Bought it when it was on offer at gooutdoors so very happy with what the price is at moment. A very good tent and is serving me well.

I've had this tent for two years and it's been absolutely fantastic.

It's light enough to take backpacking easily - including trips to east Africa and Greece.

It's very quick to erect and all in one pitching means your inner tent won't get wet if it's raining.

Very robust - despite being a tunnel tent it holds up very well in the rain - it survived a massive thunderstorm in Delphi with only 4 pegs (their bare minimum) half put into rock-hard ground.

Downside - it is pretty cramped inside (a very cosy 2 man) and the supplied pegs are pretty useless. By some decent Y section pegs before your first trip.

This is a fantastic tent that is very hard to fault. I use it wild camping with my sons and on my own and it has never let me down. It remains stable with the aid of the tension band system and as it can be pitched as one is ideal if you have to pitch in bad weather. My only gripe is at 6'1 I find the head room a bit restricted but would rather that than have a larger surface area for wind affect. The reason I gave it nine instead of ten is the third small porch pole can be a swine if your hands are cold and wet.

I have just returned from using this great little tent in the New Forest in torrential downpours and high winds. When other campers were forced to pack up at 3.30 am and go home, I stood fast and dry in the Tempest 200. So heavy were the downpours at one point the ground sheet felt like a water bed and yet the inside remained dry. I did get the tiniest amount of condensation around the edges of the tub but this was due to the fact that I had some wet gear inside and had not opened the door vent to allow a good air flow, otherwise I don't believe that it would have happened. My only gripe is that the tent pegs are too weak but once I have upgraded them I will be totally happy with this equipment. A very cosy fit for two but ample space for one camper and gear. Very nice staff and facilities at Holmsley Camp Site Thank you!
