2 Reviews of the Tesco 2 Person Dome
By: Coastwalker Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating: Date: 08/06/2012
Don't be snobby- this is a very cheap but good value tent which will do the job for most of us.
It is a double skin, outer pitched first type. The 2 fibre-composite poles are a bit fragile (one broke up on me) but it is easy to pitch and very stable when up, with guy lines on each corner. There is a short 'porch' useful for boots and other mucky stuff so you don't have to drag dirt inside. The front zip gives a good opening so you can stand up with your feet inside whilst sorting your stuff out. There is a mesh opening and roof vents, but the mesh is too large to keep out the tiny midges, so I've put finer mesh over the roof vents. I've had heavy rain on the tent quite a few times and it shows no signs of leakage.
Once inside you can sit up ok. It is big enough for 2 to sleep unless you are over 6 foot, when you have to sleep diagonally if you want to stretch full length.
The whole lots packs up into a small size and is quite light as these things go. I use it for motorbike camping and it is fine; at a stretch you could back pack with it.
I bought another one when they were on offer for a tenner. Haven't used it yet but that is cheap enough to throw away after use if you want.

I have the pink edition of this tent, and although the instructions for pitching are obscure, once you've worked it out, it's little more trouble to pitch than a pop-up. Better than that, it takes no time to fold up, and because it's double skin, there's no problem with condensation. Moreover, I've used it in torrential rain and strong wind, and kept bone dry and warm. A good buy.
