User Reviews of the Mojave 5

By: Granny5  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2012   Rating:   Date: 25/03/2013

Love this tent a very spacious 5 man with two separate pods a 3 berth and a 2 berth easy to pitch only 3 poles which to be honest you need two people (only for the poles) takes around 20 minutes to pitch. Stood up to the snow and wind we had at the week-end (March 22nd) I also have the porch which I have yet to use

Bought this tent and porch this year to replace a very old 4 berth tent which was well past it's sell by date. Found it easy to put up but a bit trying when folding up in windy conditions. A very roomy tent which stood up to some serious heavy rain and wind. As a long term camper thought there was a couple of design problems. First after returning back to the tent from a day out found the wind had separated the porch from the tent. Felt there should have been more material on the porch to cover the tent to stop it separating. Not enough pegging down points for porch sides to keep it tight, have since machined a couple more on. Windows are a great idea but felt they are too deep, could be half the depth.(manufacturers take note)

Have never worried about wind direction when pitching but noticed other like tents face on to the wind direction and not side on as I was ,which may account for the porch separating from the tent. A very versatile tent for anyone needing a bit of comfort and breathing space.

Just survived a Hurricane week in Cornwall by the sea at Perranporth

The tent took some really bad battering and collapsed 3 times

It realy was not the tents fault the camp was put on Amber alert before we arrived and no one bothered to let the new guest know to expect 60-70 mile an hour winds

It did not rain in at all and it rained for England this last weekend

I am really surprised the tent stood up to the battering it took and did not either rip smash or blow away

10 out of 10 for this tent it really stood up to what was not really camping weather

I would recommend this tent to anyone

Spacious. Warm draught free and reliable what more do campers need ( though hooks for the living area lighting would of been a distinct advantage )

Cracking tent especially when used with porch. Withstood some VERY strong winds and torrential rain. Had slight defect when purchased remedied quickly by Go Outdoors. Have used it on two separate holidays now and found it to be of a practical size. Last week was spent on Manorafon Farm North WWales where 4 other Mojave 5s were pitched and all owners were full of praise for them. We had two nights of strong winds and all 5 tents coped well. We do find the porch sits a little high off the ground which not having a sewn in groundsheet does get draughty at times but does afford a great sized kitchen area leaving the main tent free

Great family tent. Not too big, but spacious enough. Lots of windows. Easy to put up & put back into its bag. Has zipped holes for electric hook up cable. Unsure how waterproof it would be in very hard rain, but ok with small amount we had! Choice of 3 entrances to use. Pity tents don't have soundproof walls. We could hear neighbours snoring very loudly!

Just camped for the first time using our mojave 5 tent. We found it easy to pitch and pack away. The weather was rather wet and windy, but we never sprung a leak or took off! We had loads of room and that was with 3 dogs as well. We are happy to holy recommend this tent and can't wait to go camping again!

First time campers but very pleased with our tent, plenty of room for the family. Camped in sun, wind and rain and tent was great. Had practised putting tent up first so wasn't too bad first time camping, now second nature. Bought the porch for next trip just for that extra bit of room, well worth it although instructions a bit confusing first time. Would highly recommend this tent.

Just back from our first family camping holiday in Sussex. The Mojave was very easy to put up, although we do have an issue with the front skirt not quite covering the front properly, but I think that is more to do with the order that we erect the tent. The tent itself was excellent - we had a little wind and a couple of days of rain and the only water that got inside the tent was when opening the front door (as there is no small overhang) or from a little condensation in the mornings, The size is perfect for us (2 adults and 2 kiddies) and easily held all the kit needed. We will also be getting the porch soon but that is only down to our own need for somewhere to put muddy shoes and other items that we don't want in the tent itself. Recommend the tent - especially for newbies to camping. A great introduction.

Great tent . First time camping and had 2 days and nights of rain. Not a drop came through the seemingly impossibly thin material. It is easy to put up and take down and, much to my surprise, actually fitted back into the bag.

There were only two of us so it had more than enough space. Needless to say on return we treated ourselves to the generously sized canopy. This will mean if weather is bad you can still cook under cover.

Any negatives ? No. Would have preferred a green one but hey ho you can't have everything.

We had no idea what we were getting when we bought this tent, we had only been camping once before but we couldn't be happier with it.

We have used it with 4 adults but could do with the porch as it gets a little crowded but it's snug, warm and has stood up to any rain we have had.

Very easy to put up and take down.

All in all a great tent for the money.

We bought the Mojave 5 to replace our Halfords tent. We used it for the first time in may. We stayed at the Crows Nest camp site near Filey and boy did this give the tent a full work out.

It withstood near gale force winds with horizontal rain. At one point the wind got under the ground sheet and we felt the air bed lift slightly, but the tent stood up to it. This has given my partner the confidence now to have longer stays in this beauty.

On our test run we erected the tent in 35 mins on our first attempt. We can now erect and dismantle this tent in just under 50 mins.

It's a good size for 4 people, a bit of a squeeze getting 3 people into the other bedroom if you take this to the 5 people max.

With this in mind there is plenty of room for 4 people including the usual table, chairs and cooker. We paid £140 for this tent in the Go Outdoors sale. We have since added the porch which was on sale for £75 a couple of weeks ago, this doubles the space and is an excellent addition. We also bought the footprint and carpet. The carpet makes it a little more cozy by taking the coldness away from the floor and the footprint just helps to protect the groundsheet a bit.

Would recommend this tent to anyone looking for a cheap setup. Just keep an eye out for the sales and you can have an excellent setup for under £300. (Tent £140, porch £75, footprint £18, carpet £45 and we added the windbreaker for £25). Just remember to look out for the sales.

Looking forward to our weekend at Matlock at the end of September so as to try out the porch properly.

Great tent, we have used this several times along with the porch, groundsheet and carpet brought as a deal last year. It stands up to most wind and rain, although we have had to give it a quick waterproofing recently, and it might need another one soon as we did get some rain coming in. It is easy to put up and take down, a trick we have learnt when putting it down is to leave the front door open and the roll it from back to front pushing the air out towards the front door as you go, it's a lot easier to get back in the bag! As there are usually only 2 of us we use the smaller bedroom as a changing room and have taken the larger bedroom out, we have 2 single but double height blow up beds and we have much more room in the tent that without the bedroom as the beds also push back further into the tent than when in the bedroom. All in all a great tent, wish the porch had a sown in groundsheet but still does the job ok!

Like many other reviewers, we bought this on offer at Go Outdoors and also invested in the footprint and carpet. It is excellent value for money and there is a large amount of living space. We put the two kids on blow up single mattresses in the larger sleeping area and they have room to store their gear in between the beds. The smaller area takes a blow up double mattress. In the living area there is plenty room for a table, four chairs, a storage unit, an electric coolbox and a stove! Our tent has stood up to heavy rain and wind but does tend to gove you a light misting if the wind blows! Easy to put up but a bit more awkward to put away as it does tend to 'balloon' when you try to fold it. Great tent for family holiday.

I got the Mojave 5 tent and I think this tent is brilliant , I also bought the porch , and its made the tent even better even more room , we leave all our tables and kitchen stuff in the porch and its superb the amount of extra room is great. I did wait for a 50% sale on all hi gear stuff at go outdoors and got the porch for £60 so its great value for money. I could do with a little bit of advise if possible , on putting the tent up on the easiest way, I put all my poles in - is it better to start from the front or the back to erect it , do I start to put pegs in while I put each pole up ???? Me and our lass did it a few times and we never get it exactly right , our poles are sometimes not parallel or we make it too tight for bed rooms to go in. We are doing something wrong but not sure what, any tips? Would be really grateful to get the tent perfectly up, and to put the porch on perfectly too, many thanks!

We recently bought the Mojave 5 as a larger more comfortable tent for a car camping trip to France. During which we experienced heavy rain, wind and sunshine. I am pleased to say the the tent stood up to all conditions well, is easy to put up and take down (can be done on your own) and provided lots of space, particularly when used with the porch.

A good value tent, I would recommend it to anyone.

After much debate I bought the Mojave 5 recently for a family beavers camp (2 adults and 3 children), the camp was this weekend and when we arrived Friday it was very windy but between me and my hubby we battled the wind and had the tent up in no time at all, we had the footprint and carpet also, Friday night was very windy but tent held well, Saturday night early Sunday morning the weather was horrendous mainly very bad rain but the tent sprung no leaks, the only water issue we had was when we opened the door to go in and out but we will be buying the porch for our next camping trip which will solve that. We didnt really spend a lot of time in the tent as lots of activities going on but perfect space for us. The tent was easy to take down at the end of our weekend. Can't wait until our next camping holiday.

We bought this tent as a ‘smaller’ family tent for long weekends away – small is relative here as there are 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 kids; and the wife is not one for lightweight camping. It got its first outing over the Easter holidays at a very wet n windy site in mid Wales.

We chose this over other 5 man tents as it gave excellent living space, good headroom and decent sized bedrooms compared to other tents in this price range (it was bought at a heavily discounted sale price); and we were not disappointed at all. The weather was very wet with rain most days, much of it very heavy and the tent stood it all well. No leaks, no damage in winds, no feeling it was going to blow away or get damaged. My only complaint is that on one of the side doors the Velcro strips don’t quite line up completely, only overlapping by about 1cm, so not as secure as it could be; so took a bit of care when securing to avoid the door end tucking itself inside the tent and letting all that rain water in. It was not enough of a problem to warrant taking the tent back, but I may add a bit more Velcro to make it as secure as the other side.

It is simple to erect and I’ve put it up solo in about 20mins on two occasions now. Its sturdy and quite well ventilated, though a bit more ventilation would certainly be useful. We were not cramped even when all confined to the living area. Tables, chairs, kit, clothes, toys etc were all accommodated without feeling cramped. In good weather it would be perfect as much of this stuff could live outside. The numerous large doors and windows make the living area very bright and the tent has excellent headroom throughout. The separate removable bedrooms are just about large enough for 2 and 3 bodies respectively if using airbeds, but the main area needs to be used for clothes storage if at full capacity. It has a v good HH, usual features like cable entry points, lantern hangings, fluorescent guys, door poles, SIG, pockets are all present. And of course separate footprints and carpets are available and certainly worth the money.

All in all very satisfied with the tent and would happily recommend to others. It would be too small for us for a long 2 week camp (unless I can get the wife to realise we don’t need all that stuff! Or the weather is continuously kind, even less likely) but it would certainly suit 2/3 as a base for a long camp or a larger family as a weekend tent that offers plenty of space for those inclement days.

As an aside, we were tempted by the porch to give more space for cooking, but decided not to buy this as it is the same price as we paid for the tent itself. However the porch to our Kalahari 10 just about fits if coming off one of the side entrances. Its not a perfect fit but does give more space and another large sheltered area. I’m guessing other large porches could be used in a similar fashion.

We bought this tent from go outdoors in the sale, the first thing that stands out is the value for money is excellent!

There is plenty of room inside the tent, it comfortably sleeps 5 people and the living space is just about big enough to hold 5 if needs be ie if its pouring down!

The front Windows provide great light and visibility and are nicely closed out with the built in flaps, access is good with the 3 huge doors, the little ecu access points are handy, we've used this tent half a dozen times now and I really am struggling to find a bad thing to say about it!

Putting it up and down is a doddle, easy with 2 people but could be done alone, all in all really happy with our buy!

Just back from cliff top site in Filey, tent performed really well, no leaks even with heavy rain, hailstones and strong winds. Can't wait to use it again. There was enough room for 4 of us and our gear. Good tent for the price I paid. Will be buying the carpet to match now I know it can handle bad weather.

We have used our Mojave now 4 times and it has withstood rain, wind and heat. There are only 3 of us and we have plenty of room - I think it would be a bit of a squeeze for 5 people.

We bought the porch last year and would recommend it to anybody. The space is great for storage and cooking and the fact that the porch has a zip front keeps the cold out and your things dry. We think this is a great tent and would recommend it, especially with the porch.

We bought this tent on a 'spur of the moment' in August 2010.

Cant remember how much it was, but it seemed a bargain at the time.

The tent itself seems well made, and suits us perfectly. As we are old hands with it now, we can have the tent up in 20 Mins.

We take a little longer because we bought the Porch for it last year which is fabulous.

Never had any leaking issues like other owners.

We wouldn't like to sleep 5 adults in the tent as we feel it would be too small and claustrophobic but we have camped with a couple of grand children and its perfect.

Would we buy another?

Would if the 'big' pod was slightly bigger. Supposed to sleep 3 in there but would be too much of a squeeze.

It does suit us and we'll definitely keep it for another couple of seasons.

A Good tent

Easy to put up and down - took 2 people about 30 mins for the 1st time. Took less after that. Slight leak at top of zip on side doors, but everywhere else fine. Withstood very heavy rain and wind. Although its a 5, the living area was crowded with 3 people and everything else, so we bought the porch, which has now become the kitchen so problem solved. Bedrooms roomy and so much better when you can stand up in them, but would be crowded with 5 beds. All in all a lovely tent, which was a bargain at £130, which has stood up to everything that was flung at it.

We brought one thinking we were getting a great deal at around £150 - How wrong could we be. A very long story short. We brought this as a smaller tent to use for our shorter camping breaks instead of our larger one.

In wind it is like a tethered kite. On its 3rd outing in its first rain, to say it leaked would be a lie. It might as well have not had a roof. Everything inside was soaked and we had to leave our holiday as a result.

After spending £45 on sealant for our tent that had now done only 6 days from new and been wet once we left it out in the rain to test it. Again it served brilliantly as a colander.

By the time we had done all of this it was a couple of days past 1 year old. Go Outdoor to their credit (after a week of negotiation and help from 'the sales of goods act') agreed to provide me with a full refund.

10 out of 10 for Go Outdoor but 0 out of 10 for their Mojave 5 (unless your using it in the kitchen)

Recently bought this tent and wanted to try it out without waiting till next year. We went just overnight and was really pleased with how quickly it went up. It rained in the night and was fine. Our first SIG and was pleased with the lack of draughts. The amount of windows it has is brilliant and can imagine it being nice and light even on a fairly dull day. Really pleased with it and plenty of room for 2 adults plus doggy. Would definitely recommend.

Used our Mojave 5 for the first time this weekend, was a really good tent withheld the wind and rain, easy to put up and plenty of space inside. Especially like the clear windows at the front so you can get plenty of light in, even if its raining outside, also like the fact it has three doors so you can open it right out if you want. We were proper clamping and had the carpet with it, which I would recommend, makes the tent warmer and more homely. Would definitely recommend this tent

Brilliant entry level tent. Very easy to put up and plenty of room inside. Great with all the doors front and side. We use it for a family of 4. We put the kids in the larger bedroom with 2 blow-up beds and a double fits snug in the other. After a couple of uses we decided to but the extension (which was nearly the same price of the tent - which we bought on special offer!) But a good buy as it gives you somewhere to cook, extra sitting and storage area. All good all round tent.

Hi just an update on previous review, carpet is great but hooks to hold in place would be good. But guess not everyone has my kid rolling on floor or scuffing it up. The porch made world of difference just that extra space to pop the cooking items, as had some down pours so was nice to not have the living space full of things. The poles for the porch are not light like the tent poles, had trouble getting the fabric to sit tight on the tent and touch the ground. Also once porch was on it became clear how much the tent had faded, which worried me a little for such a new tent having brought this to replace my old tissue like Outwell. But so far no leaks and still extremely happy with it.

Mojave 5 Porch well worth the money. £70.00 from go outdoors. We were in Dorset last week and the tent and porch withheld the torrential rain.

The porch gives so much more space, easy to put up and comes with a ground sheet a big bonus.

We managed to sleep in the tent area and cook and day to day living under the porch. Would recommend this to all any Mojave 5 tent owners.

A Must Buy

Had my eye on this tent for a while and bought it in the Go Outdoors sale. Puts up easily and quickly (only 3 poles) and the space is fantastic. Almost twice the living space of my Horizon 6 and although the bedrooms are of course smaller there's still plenty of room for 3 people, four at a push. There's full standing height throughout, even in the bedrooms. The front windows make it feel even more spacious and the bug mesh on all the doors is a feature you unfortunately don't get on many tents in this price range. The bedrooms are a quite dark material which helps on sunny mornings. I would agree with a previous review that the tent lacks pegging points along the front edge and also easily remedied it by using 'clingons'. It's a great tent for the money, and would make an ideal 'first tent' for a small family trying out camping. I would give it 10/10 but I haven't used it in rainy weather yet so can't give it full marks for that reason alone.

I paid £99.00 for my tent. I have never seen it priced that low since. I really do love this tent. It withstood very fierce gales in Snowdon. It goes up in minutes, and down just as quickly.

It ticks all the boxes with structural features I was told to look for; I was told to look out for, separate internal bedrooms, rather than attached or sewn in bedrooms, and colour coded poles. The seams are taped, and didn't let in wet in very heavy rain. I am really impressed with it.

I think for more than 3 adults though, the living space can be a bit cramped in bad weather when you cant have the front door open. Also, to live comfortably for more than a couple of nights, there would be poor storage if occupied by 5 people, unless there were young children.

That said, I do love my tent. More so now it has been good to me in very bad weather. If I ever replace it, it will be if I am going away for longer with 3+ people.

I love this Tent having owned many Tents before this one just seems so roomy. Although most of the time it is just my son and I. It is so simple to pitch and looks good once up. First time we used it many of our friends were very impressed and a few others on the campsite commented on it too. I have now brought the porch & carpet which I will be using end of August. The larger bedroom is a good size, as I do have my creature comfort of a Queen size air bed! The living area is spacious too. Last trip it rained and we were able to entertain visitors comfortably in this area.

Also very easy to take down as onslaught of rain tested our skills to the max! but as it is so simple to erect and take down this was achieved with out a hitch. NO screaming irate Mummy so I believe my son is very pleased with the tent too.

The only downside it has no hook to hang the electric hook up. Light hook not strong enough. But I have solved this problem now by making a clip on one of my camping cupboards.

This will be my 4th Mojave 5 in 2 yrs, cut along story short, the latest one on 5th aug 2011 decided to be a cullander first time it was pitched, it leaked all the way along the back edge down onto the fittings for the dividing rooms and into the rooms thus floating beds! Yet the porch extension also first outing performed brilliantly considering it does not have a fixed fly sheet nor fixed connection to the tent.

Go outdoors at Wolverhampton said they have to send it away for testing? Its new! Ok outside the said 28 days as it was exchanged earlier this year, about a month and half ago for one full of holes!

Will be testing the 4th one next week watch this space!

I bought this tent to replace my very heavy, 14 year old frame tent as it's just too much for me now I don't have a car to haul it about in. This one is perfect for train/bus journeys and big enough for the whole family + dog.

The Mojave 5 is absolutely brilliant, it's spacious and light, lots of windows, built in ground sheet, extra doors for a through breeze (I leave one open with a windbreak on the outside so the dog can sit outside and I can still see him) and came with a repair kit too.

The kids love it too, there is ample space in the two sleeping compartments and without them we could sleep half my daughter's class, not that I'm suggesting it to her!

3 main poles and lots of very visible guy ropes make this tent incredibly easy to put up. It took two of us just 20 minutes to erect the first time we put it up but I imagine, with a bit of practice, I'll get it down to 15 minutes as it is so incredibly simple.

The only downside (why I didn't give it 10/10) is putting it back in it's bag. It was really tricky fitting it all back in. Again, with practice, I imagine I'll find the knack.

I would like padded handles on the bag so I can sling it on my back (seat belt pads should do it) or a boarded base with wheels attached (which I'm trying to figure out how to make myself) and maybe a hook or two to hang a lamp inside the tent but other than that I can't think of anything that would improve it.

Having purchased the unit last year I've used it on a number of trips and don't envisage changing it. The tent is easy to erect, good living area and large bedrooms. While camping we have endured some very very heavy downpours and high winds and it has performed brilliantly. Looking forward to pitching again tomorrow.

Well am I glad we found this site before we went off and bought our 1st tent! After much research we were convinced that the Mojave 5 was the perfect compromise between size ease of pitching and portability. We got it dead right! Spent last weekend at Lady Heyes in Frodsham and absolutely loved every minute. Plenty of space for me, other half and our 2.5 year old. We were able to leave the smaller bedroom pod out and use the space for storage leaving loads of room for playing / dining in the living area. Had some rain on the Sunday morning, it was lovely to hear pitter patter on the canvas whilst being snug and warm in our beds! No leaks whatsoever. 30 mins to put up being extremely careful. 20 mins to pack away, back in the bag first time - no worries.

Would definitely recommend.

First camping trip in many many years. We wanted space, ease of pitching & good quality. The Mojave 5 ticks all the boxes.

3 simple, thick & solid poles slip through. Peg one end down & pull up the other end. It can be done single handed. Voila - a roomy tent appears.

Now I know I said that I wanted a quality tent, and there will be those out there who snigger at the term associated with a Hi Gear unit. But think of Skodas. A former butt of many jokes, now made by VW. There is still some derision over badge snobbery, but the Octavia is a Golf, the Superb is a Passatt - anyone with sense will see a decent saving and good build quality.

So, how does ths fit in with my Mojave. It's a Gelert Lakesbury - nuff said.

And the best bit. This was a store return that was on Ebay, and I got it for about a third the price of a brand new on from Go Outdoors. So a bargain to boot.

I have owned the 2010 and then the 2011 models of the Mojave and totally love this tent with the large living area and the 2 separate bedrooms it provides plenty of room for a family camping trip to a couple get away . Improvements for 2011 are the windows with curtains, which provide a outside view when cold or raining and the fully zipped front door which prevents draughts when windy outside. I have just purchased the porch which includes the groundsheet for this tent too and it adds loads of extra space to leave dirty shoes or to keep the kitchen equipment.

This is the perfect starter tent and will last a good few years.Even without the improvements this tent is well worth the price. The tent is that easy to put up, I have managed to put it up on my own within 30 minutes but takes far less with 2 people. It holds up in wet weather too . After camping last year during a severe wet weather warning and the campsite creating extra drainage holes in the ground to accommodate the adverse wet weather. To my relief the inside of the tent remained dry.Hence the upgrade to have windows the ground sheet refused to let the water through that had collected under the tent. Thank you hi gear!

We missed buying this from Go Outdoors at the bargain price of £130 (annoying!) but decided it was worth more than that and ended up paying £175. It is a big 5 berth and there is only the two of us! However we do not travel light! We use the bigger half as the bedroom and leave the other pod out and use that area for storage. The living room is huge! The tent was easy to put up with just the two of us- follow the instructions and you can't go wrong! Also putting it away was easier than we thought and it fits back in the bag! Perfect

Had the previous version of the Mojave 5 for a few years and was happy to get another when they bought this years one out with windows.

Although there are only two of us I like to have room to move about and this has been ideal for us.

It has stood up in gale force winds and torrential rain but the only problem we had initially was that there was not a pegging point under the main door so the wind tried very hard to get underneath. We've rectified this by using clingons. The toggles for the bedrooms aren't the best but are so far holding on.

All in all a good buy for the money.

We purchased this while on offer at £129 and what a bargain we got.

Have used it 3 times so far the last in bad rain and we discovered it was leaking on a few seams but go outdoors changed it no problems.

We where going to buy the Vango Icarus but decided to purchase this one as it looked bigger.

Very easy to put up even in the wind and rain.

We have notice that compared to the older model this now has windows and a front opening which lets in a lot of light.

Just purchased the porch on offer at £70 so looking forward to having more room and not having to move the kitchen in and out to cook.

The only down side I would say is I wished the bedroom was as one with a zip between, so the children can see you and you can reassure them with out getting out unzipping everything etc etc!

Great family tent and glad we choose this model. Hopefully lots more weekends away to be had, and hopefully the sun will come out for us!

We bought this because it looked easy to erect and IT WAS! Just 3 poles to put together and the guy ropes were a doddle. We tried this in very wind and wet conditions and it proved to be very secure and dry.

Loads of room and you can even stand and walk around which was a great bonus. The mesh doors were a great help keeping flies out but let the air through for cooling and ventilation. Using the 2 poles to create a front or side canopy was also very useful and created a handy shade from the sun. Look forward to adding the extension and carpet for added room and luxury.

Great tent, easy to erect and has loads of space. Used all of last year and this year as well never had a leak yet. Did snap a pole on a windy day on the North York moors but was quickly replaced by the shop. Only issue is the lack of windows in this years model but noticed the 2011 version has windows which is a great addition. Would recommend it to anyone as it is great family tent and great value for money.

Purchased this tent in August 2010. It is my first ever tent and I didn't want to spend excessively in case camping didn't turn out to be my thing. Have had a few trips away with it and have loved every second. It's turned out to be a fantastic starter tent - easy to put up and take down, and comes in a bag large enough to make packing away very easy, no leaking, handy electric cable access points on both sides of the tent, great ventilation, very spacious (accommodates 2 adults and 2 children very comfortably), sturdy and stable in the moderate winds experienced.

Downsides to the tent are that it doesn't zip all the way around at the front door, but at the bottom is held up with toggles. Haven't had a problem with draught, but it will of course allow an access point for insects. Have put velcro along this area, but have found it fiddly if honest and a zip would've been much better. I see this issue has been addressed in the 2011 model though. An insect screen would've been useful for the front door (as there is on the sides). Windows would be nice (again addressed in the 2011 model), but in all honesty that hasn't bothered me. Personal preference I suppose :) Rain/early morning condensation very easily drips from the outside to the inside of the tent via the side doors, due to the way that they fall inwards.

I have just purchased the long awaited porch for this tent, and I am sure it will enhance it wonderfully. We also have the carpet and footprint, which I feel really add to the comfort and cosiness of the tent.

Hoping to upgrade if the pennies allow over the next couple of years, but this has been a really fantastic starter tent and I haven't regretted purchasing it for a second.

Very good tent for the casual camper.

Easy to erect and has stood up to wet and windy conditions very well.

Loads of room inside for storage and dining.

We paid less than £100 for this tent , which has proved to be a real bargain.

My wife was against the idea of camping to begin with, but now loves to get away for the weekends in this well designed and comfortable tent.

Am looking to get the porch attachment to save dragging cooking equipment in and out of tent when going out.

Excellent value for money!

I bought the Mojave 5 tent when it dropped in price to £129.99 from Go Outdoors. I had originally bought the Vango Icarus 500,carpet and footprint which is a 5 man tent 2011 moss green model. The build quality on the Vango was not as good as the Mojave 5. The Icarus was a nice tent for the two of us and we liked it till it let in rain on a seam just outside the bedroom, maybe a cup full of water dripped on the carpet so we returned it.

Go Outdoors said they would replace it which was good but I asked if I could look at the other tents, this is when we saw the Mojave 5. The space in the living area was bigger and the double bedroom also and the second bedroom was about the size of the Icarus one. Lots more space to sit in and have friends visit us.We bought this tent, carpet and footprint.

I had a trial run with the tents on a friends garden, just to check we had got everything we needed, I would say that this is a must , everything was good.

We spent two nights in our Mojave 5 at Woodland Waters and loved it the only downside or modification is what someone else mentioned was under the front door theres a skirt and wind could blow under the ground sheet or rain may get under, as mentioned velcro could sort this. The 2011 model has good windows unlike previous models and I liked the fact it has two side doors and a front door to use depending on which way the wind blows.

We really like the Mojave 5 and just because theres only two of us and we have plenty of space I don't think we will need the enclosed extension but you never know. Only rated it as an 8 due to it didnt rain so I cant say it wont leak.

Purchased last year in July but was unable to go camping till June2011. It was put up twice last year to get a feel with one overnight stay.

In June 2011 went for a week’s camping the tent was easy to put up even in strong wind. During the week it stood up to high wind and at times heavy rain. My main problem is that the little toggles and attachments on the separate inner sleeping area and the main body are not stitched in very well as most have come away and to make it worst this was noticed as we put the tent up on the first day. The tent pegs are poor quality steel kept bending and would suggest anyone to have spares.

The other point surly they can provide a carpet that can be machine washed rather than by hand with warm water and soap?

As 1st time campers the tent was a great price and seemed to be a great deal. Should I remain a camper I will upgrade to a tent with more substance?

This is a good starter tent with plenty space.

Bought this last week from GoOutdoors for £129. Good price. We camped for 3 nights in good weather. Not sure how it would do in rain or windy conditions. Quite breezy on our first day & it moved about a lot. I got the impression immediately that it was mass produced in China somewhere as not the best quality. Looks good but stitching not overly great and I certainly didnt want to hang light up etc. A couple of window toggles broke off material by stitching. An OK tent for money though and plenty of space for a family of 4.

One of the older models as has not got the windows but otherwise a great tent.

We had a much smaller one before which we used rarely that you would not be able to sit in if the weather was poor but this one has masses of space. Two separate rooms means storage and a bedroom for us (the bigger room has room for us and the dog!)

Easy enough to erect, first go this weekend on the campsite and in only a little over an hour with a blustery wind, next time I would reckon 30 mins tops.

Windows would be nice but having the doors all round was grand, lots of shade and an all round view!

We love this tent, we've used it 3 times now and its been fantastic. Its really easy to put up, takes 2 of us to get it up right if its a bit windy but once the corner pegs are in its a one man job. Which is great as we have 2 young kids that need an eye kept on them! The front porch is big, we've been away with friends and managed to comfortably get 4 adults round a table with all the doors shut. We did manage to get all 4 of in the 3 person compartment (it was a freezing cold night and we thought it might be warmer if we were all in the one side).

Just took the tent on it's first outing after nearly 12 months. The tent is ace! It's really spacious inside and was fairly easy to erect. The only problem we had was one of the hooks used to connect the smaller bedroom into the tent broke but the room was still usable.

The first night we stayed in the tent there was blustery gales and the tent stood up to it with no problems. On the second night the wind went from blustery gales to extreme wind. The tent stood up to this as well, event though it looked like it was going to blow in at one point. Can't wait for the forthcoming porch, should make it even better.

We bought this tent last year after some consideration, this is the first real tent that we have bought and we wanted something that would offer us size and comfort, My husband is 6ft and it was important for us that he could stand up in the tent without any problems and we wanted two bedrooms, one for our things and one to sleep in as well as a decent size living area, it was also important to us that the tent had a fully sewn in ground sheet to stop any draughts and creepy crawlies coming in and we achieved all of these things by buying the Mojave 5, it is large, spacious and airy.

The tent is quick and easy to put up and pack down again, once it is packed away in its bag it is quite heavy to lift but it has a lovely strong bag to keep it safe in. There are little zip sections to feed the EHU cable through into the tent without creating any gaps or leak holes.

When we bought this tent we didn't really think about what would happen if it rained a lot, we were told this tent would with stand heavy rain without any leaks and thought that was all we needed however having now camped in it in the rain we have realised the down side to this tent is that it has no windows, something it appears hi-gear have rectified with the new design. Without any windows and continual rain you shut down all the flaps and you feel very shut off from the rest of the world which isn't very nice if it rains for ages, also we found that as you went into the tent when it was raining, half the rain seemed to come in with you as it dripped of the flaps and into the tent, this could have been rectified with a little door canopy or with a porch attachment (again something that has now been rectified)which we will definitely be buying.

Overall though we love this tent and feel it offers very good value for money, and once it is all set up we think it looks the business. Gelert accessories can also be added to this outfit for a cheaper cost than the hi-gear ones and they are the same colour and style as the Mojave 5.

First time camping, first tent, even in heavy rain, and no sealed seams it kept us dry. Suits us a family of 4. Nice and roomy, lots of space for the kids to play when the weather was bad. Looking forward to buying the extension when it comes out. All in all really like this tent, but then it is our first.

We love this tent. Having sold our caravan last year we wanted a tent that would still give us plenty of room. I went to go outdoors to look at all the tents and this one screamed out at me as being the best value for the size.We tested it for 5 days at Harrogate and loved it. It went up really easily. The sewn in groundsheet was great. The bedroom pods had plenty of room for the 3 adults that went and there was a decent sized living space for us all with plenty of windows. I thought the little zip at each side to admit an electric hook up cable was a great idea. Now I just want the carpet and porch and I'll be happy

After buying and trying a few (4 actually) tents last year, this has got to be the best I have had. I needed a tent that would fit myself and 3 kids, but that could be pitched by just myself, whilst keeping an eye on the kids. After a quick trip to Swindon GO, I came back with this.

I took it away for about 7 short breaks last year, it took about 20 mins to pitch by myself, has to be the easiest tent I've ever done, and stood up to lashing rain, thunder and a lot of wind in an exposed fields in Cornwall and Wiltshire ! it also coped with 3 lively children being kept inside during a storm ! and the best part was there were no leaks.

I bought the carpet to go with it, a bit of luxury, but it does make it a great and very warm family tent.

Bought this tent last summer in the GoOutdoors sale ready for our last big camp of the year. LOVE IT! simple as that. We go away with a child and 2 dogs so the tent design is perfect. The sewn in groundsheet and secure fastening of the front opening meant the dogs were well contained throughout the night which is paramount as we no longer have to take a dog cage for them to sleep in. Also the bedroom designs mean our son gets a single mattress plus room for all his junk in the smaller bedroom pod and we get double mattress plus standing room in the larger bedroom pod. The tent is easy to erect - even on my own it was possible. It is well built and withstood some harsh weather last year when we took it out. Not one dripping seam or zip! I would love to get the fitted carpet this year and will be looking into the porch for it. Our tent didn't come with the windows which seeing the windowed version is a bit gutting hence the drop in a point for my rating. Considering we only paid £115 quid for the tent it is a fantastic purchase for me - well worth it!

Well that was me just getting my tent out the bag for the 1st time yesterday to check all was well before we go away with it next week. Got as far as opening it out and noticed it was filthy and wet/damp. Put it straight back in the bag and tore down to GO asking for a 'new' 1 and not 1 that had been used and returned filthy. (Tut tut GOOUTDOORS)

Got back home and proceeded to erect the new 1 only to be disappointed again as there was a toggle fastener missing to secure the front door curtain but not taking it back, should hold with Velcro. Would probably have been ok if the curtain rolled from top to bottom instead of bottom to top (strange set up) A bit footery to zip closed from the inside but looking forward to trying it out next weekend.

We bought our Mojave 5 (2011) from Go Outdoors £129 to replace our Carplan 5. The main reason for this the extra space it provides, along with the introduction of numerous windows. We have used it several times since March in all weathers. It seems to us that Hi Gear have addressed all the issues with earlier models. It has stood-up to all weathers that Scotland can throw at it. No leaks at all. Packing it away in the wind is fun, but is that not the same with all tents. We have nicknamed our tent Amityville, because of the way it looks at night with the lights on inside, but as far as we are concerned there is no horror with this tent. Just happy camping.

Just bought mojave5 in early march £129.99, special offer at go outdoors. This replaces Vango Icarus 500 which has nearly every pole split. The Mojave5 was easy to erect single handed, about 15 mins. Good size and pleased to find addition of 7 windows from side doors and across all of front, great addition. Only niggle, seemed draughty as was - 2 outside at night and difficult to zip up doors from inside. Will review further as will be used every weekend at Brands Hatch from March till November. so far seems excellent value for money

Hiya, I was in my local Go store last week after receiving the latest email from them regarding the sale of the Mojave 5. From the 7th to the 13th March this model comes down from £199 to £129. I've known for a while it was going to drop in price so decided to hold off till the 7th.

Good news was I seen it had the full sewn in groundsheet (no more need for the velcro carry on) but the best news is that it has 7 windows in the living area and a far better front entrance! Woohoo! I've always said I'd opt for this tent if it had windows.

I went and asked the assistant if this was the model that was getting reduced but he said that they'd probably be the old stock with no windows and velcro needing model :(

I was just wondering if anyone has seen this new version and do you rate it if you've purchased one?

Roll on Monday.

Update: I went back today to see if they would sell me 1 early in case it's the old version they put on sale. No joy, I was told it wouldn't come up £129 on the system until tomorrow.

The new model's front entrance in almost just all window and the windows on the side walls are a good size too :)

We have had this tent for a year now and love it. Easy to put up and pack away and has stood up to some very bad wind and rain. We have added some velcro along the bottom of the door on the front to stop any drafts. We too were looking for a canopy to cook in so I emailed Go Outdoors last August and was sent this response:

I can confirm that there are plans to make a porch/canopy for the Hi Gear Mojave

5. Please be aware it is not likely to be released for sale until the start of

Next year's camping season - around April.

We will be looking out for it in April!

Very simple to erect, especially compared to some of the god awful tents (particularly the halfords thing we had just) before this.

Seems well made, we've been all over with this thing, zips still haven't broken off, its all still in one piece (apart from some vandalism done on the door when we had the misfortune to visit Orchard Farm in Humanby) though obviously thats not a fault with the tent, luckily it also comes with a repair kit.

It also comes with all the poles/pegs, beware of some of the cheaper tents which don't include these, even though you'd assume they do.

Highly recommended tent, even in treacherous weather conditions you feel safe.

First place to check for one of these would be Go Outdoors, they seem to do special deals on these quite often.

Mojave 5 is worth every penny. Warm Dry and easy to erect. I use a power inverter with a cable running from my car, I was amazed to find a small opening in the Mojave 5 that allows a cable into the tent.

Its strong and very well built.

Comes in a strong bag.

Would recommend it to anyone.

I found the carpet was a little pricey

We bought a Mojave 5 last August for £100 whilst it was on special offer at Go Outdoors in Coatbridge near Glasgow.

Previously to this as an introduction to camping we had purchased a cheap four man tent which did not have a sewn in groundsheet and took ages to put up.

We went away for a weekend in August 2010. The Mojave 5 took us about 20 mins to put up which for us was a miracle.

It was heaven compared to our previous tent. The space inside the tent was magnificent, we could stand up inside the tent and it felt very spacious and the sewn in groundsheet was great.

We purchased the carpet for the tent also which made it feel very homely indeed.

The tent could have done with a window as it was looking and feeling very blue.

We have already booked our camping holidays for 2011 and with several weekends also planned we can't wait to get away with our Mojave 5 again.

I've just been on to go outdoors and they have told me there will be a canopy for the Mojave 5 out next April (2011). About time. They said it will be a front canopy but it should fit on the side as well. They're not sure of the price yet. Hope this info is of help as I have been trying to get one for a long time now.

We used our Mojave in August in South Cornwall, we were battered by gale force winds and heavy rain for three days. But the inside of the tent remained dry and the tent stood up to the high winds. We were very satisfied. I would like a porch for next year though so that we have somewhere dry to cook.

We decided to buy The Mojave 5 tent after a walk around a Go outdoors shop.

Myself, hubby (both in our 30's) and little boy then aged 2 decided to try are hand at camping. (myself and hubby use to do camping some 10+ years before & for many years & enjoyed it, but also knew the pit falls.)

. Our aim this time was to find a tent that was a good height for my hubby (he is 6ft 5') and had a good size separate sleeping areas and a good sized living area in case of bad weather (Well, it is England!) and finally something that wouldn't take an hour to put up or down . Did we find it .

ABSOLUTELY . We LOVE this tent, considering the cost of other tents-this was £100 in the sale and in our opinion is brilliant, having the 3 doors is great as you can always find a door thats out of the wind! the huge door at front is fantastic - we erect 3 wind breaks from this door and have a little garden for our boy to run in (Without him running off into other peoples tent-you laugh it has happened!) and also means out of one of the side doors we erect a little kitchen and have the flyscreen zipped-great as keeps the little one safe and away from the cooking area.

As for the Big Door and I have noticed a few mentioning it not closing securely enough, hence letting in quite a bit of wind etc - my advice - PLEASE look again - on this door it has double fastenings and it as its lipped upwards and not on the ground it is GREAT as when closed properly it is so snug and tight and doesn't let it ANY wind at all (minus the husband!) - and the last camping outing we did (3 weeks ago) we were up on a hill and my gosh did we have some strong winds up there, especially at night - and not a breeze was felt inside, totally amazing.

By the 2nd camping trip we had this up within 30 mins in quite strong winds (Tip.Get all poles in, then the corner guide ropes pegged, then your lift up & peg others in)

I am truly pleased we bought this tent and do not think we'll be upgrading for sometime. The one thing that might be nice would be an added extra porch which they don't seem to make for it, but reading the comments of Mathew Betts and he said a Zenobia tent Porch fits very well - that a consideration for next year.

We recently purchased one of these tents after some deliberation. Couldn't decide between Mojave 5 or Vango Icarus 500, in the end we decided on the Mojave 5 and the footprint. Unable to have a practice run to pitch and put away (as the tent was to big for our garden) we headed off to Norfolk last weekend to try out our new purchase. It was raining when we arrived - not a good start,

We preceded to unpack the tent and footprint, still not sure whether the tent is supposed to attach to the footprint or not, managed to get the tent erected and everything else sorted in about an hour & half. Not sure if tent was pegged down properly as we had lots of pegs left over, does the groundsheet and the flysheet get pegged separately? as I pegged them together in places.

We only used a side entrance as it was to wet to have the main door open and didn't come across any problems.

We didn't find any leaks but on the second night it was really cold and a clear sky and in the morning I noticed water on top of our sleeping pod, I am hoping this was condensation as I had the ventilation flap open behind the sleeping area. Other than that no major problems. But now maybe think we should have gone for the Vango at least we could get a porch for it unlike the Mojave.Value for money ??? only time will tell but for £110:00 Shouldn't really grumble too much.

We bought this as our return to camping tent after weeks of research - have just returned from our first trip out in it and I have to say it is great - stood up to everything the Welsh elements could throw at it with hardly a drip. We only put up the larger bedroom which meant we had a lot more living space (part of the reason we decided upon this one was exactly this flexibility!) It would have been nice if there were windows to peer out of but the white stripe helps let in plenty of light and the fact there are three doors to choose from means you can avoid the wind and have one of them open.

We also have the footprint which is a complete godsend -especially at packing up stage. We would really like a porch to add on which would take it up to a 10 out of 10.

I just wanted to post this onto here because I have noticed that other people have been asking about buying a suitable porch for this tent; I recently purchased the Mojave to upgrade from two smaller tents I thought were handy as an odd-trip away. Now a more serious camper, I got this tent from Go-outdoors and wanted an area for the cooker etc to be kept in a safe area with having two young girls.

I read on here about the Zenobia Porch fitting relatively well and thought I would give it a try! I must admit that it is the truth. It fits very snug on one side and on the other side, it leaves a small gap, which too be honest would probably be the same with any other porch you try to fit on (that anyone else may suggest for this tent) until Hi-tech decide to release an official one. With more practice, I think it could fit better. The carpet was a good purchase to make it that extra more comfortable during a camping trip. All in all an excellent tent, was very warm and spacious at night. One suggestion would be to take the advice of other Mojave owners and purchase a pack of velcro strips for the large front entrance which lacks the ability to be more secured down to keep the wind at bay!

I have uploaded a photo or two for all of you who are interested.

Have Just Bought This Tent to replace our 3 year old. As others have given this a great rating we decided to purchase at the opening day at Norwich last Saturday of our new super store, price £120.00 with Discount Card. Feel a bit upset seeing others have paid 99 quid, still who cares! Have today erected it in a neighbours garden (it was to big for our garden) No problems up and done in 25 mins, impressed with easy to follow instructions that actually work. Will report back when we have been away with it.

Bought our Majave 5 in March from Go-Outdoors Bristol. There are only 2 adults staying in here, and the fact that that 2 sleeping pods are separate swung it for us. We just put up the 3 sleep pod, and use the extra space for the cooking gear when we bring it in at night or when we go out, so it does not compromise our living space. We can also stand up right in the tent all over which is an amazing improvement on our previous 3 man dome tent.

The only fault I have found with it, is the main front opening, is only toggle shut, the material gapes so we end up putting bags and things against it when it rains/windy/at night, the bugs can come and go as freely as they wish, so am thinking about getting some sticky back velcro to put on, so we can close it a bit better.

We went to Dawlish Warren last week, and for a whole 24 hours it drizzled constantly, then tent held up brilliantly, no leaks (well only where the wind pushed the rain drips in through the zip teeth (am going to run a candle down both sides of each zip 1, to make them a bit quieter, 2. To see if it makes them a bit more waterproof))

For the price that the tent is, I think it is worth the money. Am now contemplating getting an extension so we can cook under the canopy rather than eating out at pubs every evening!

Highly recommended here

Well, another satisfied customer here. We wanted to try camping out and had a second hand tent we bought 4 years ago that we'd never used! Came to put it up in the garden before we went to make sure we could put it up and the poles fell apart. So, off to Go Outdoors for some replacement shock cord. And home we came with the tent and carpet! Went back later for the footprint as that wasn't in stock at the time. I have to say, the footprint is a godsend as it does mean that you can pack the tent away and not worry about it so much providing it's dry and it's much easier to clean the footprint in the garden when you get home. We used the bigger of the bedrooms for our double airbed where me, my husband and our toddler slept. We bought a single airbed whilst we were away and found that it will also fit in that bedroom with the double so next time we should be more comfy! In the smaller bedroom we kept bags/clothes and the portaloo I'd bought (it was my first time and I didn't fancy trekking to the toilet block in the dark!).

Tent went up really easily, we'd never managed to pitch it properly in our garden as our garden is too small and I did it pretty much single handedly as hubby was at work (we were on a fairly local site.) so I took my teenage son to help, and the term 'chocolate teapot' sprang to mind on several occasions. I was very surprised how easy I found it, if I can do it, anyone can! And furthermore, it stayed up all weekend - bonus! We had some rain and a bit of wind, not gales but a bit more than a slight breeze and the tent withstood it all. It was very warm inside too.

The only disappointing thing really is lack of windows, you have to sit outside really or else you'd go a bit stir crazy, but then if it is raining/cold you don't really want to be sitting outside. Maybe a porch/canopy/awning would be a useful addition. We used the side door as our main entry/exit so that we didn't have to keep undoing the toggles on the groundsheet at the 'front' exit. However, we did find that when it was wet on the outside of the door, the water tended to drip inside the tent - another reason that a porch would be useful. We also thought that a mosquito net on the front door would have been nice so that we could have sat there instead - it's wasp season at the moment and we didn't want a tent full of them so another good reason to sit at the side and use that door as a canopy.

For the price of this tent, I am extremely happy with it. It's plenty big enough for us for a weekend away. Hubby worries it might be a bit small for a week, but I think mostly that's because of the lack of windows, I expect it would get a bit 'dreary' if you had to sit indoors for too long to be honest. Otherwise, it's absolutely fab!

We had a Mojave 5 last year and as first time campers it was the perfect tent.

As a family of 2 adults and 2 children there was more than enough room. It is easy to set up and comes in a smallish bag which is a plus if you struggle for room in the car like us!

We had to upgrade to a larger tent as we now have a dog to accomodate.

The only downside to this tent is no porch but you can buy porches and canopies to fit which would give you extra space if you need it.

Great first time tent!

We (Myself, my partner and our 3yr old and 1yr old boys) are new to camping, originally we intended to borrow a tent, however on a trip to GO Outdoors to buy some equipment we saw this tent on offer at £99 and decided it was too much of a bargain not too buy one.

Myself and my partner attempted a camping trip 6yrs ago but abandoned it after 4hrs of attempting unsuccessfully to erect a borrowed tent, so this tent appealed to us as it only had 3 poles!

The tent comes in a smallish bag which contains the tent, the two bedroom pods and a bag of poles and a bag of pegs.

We arrived at our site and had not given it a practice go so were totally unprepared! However we managed to get it up including bedrooms in 40 minutes!

The 3 poles are the kind which are all attached with elastic (probably a technical name but as I said Im a novice!) so no change of making a mistake. They are also colour coded so no chance of getting them in the wrong place, the guy ropes are also already attached so very simple! We bought the footprint for £20 which was well worth it as it protects the sewn in groundsheet from mud etc.

The two bedrooms are extremely spacious, myself and my partner had the larger bedroom and there was plenty of room for a double air bed and and all our bags of clothes etc and was not at all cramped. The boys had the second bedroom with two child air beds there was space in the middle for toys etc! On the front of the larger bedroom there are lots of storage pocket and inside there are hooks for lanterns (I think thats what they are for!).

The living area is spacious and there is a large from opening (we didn't use) and two smaller side doors. In our living area we had our kitchen area, two large chairs, a toilet, and the childrens table and chairs.

We had 24hrs of solid rain and Cornish winds! We were really warm and cosy inside and there were no leaks or drafts. Other reviews have said the bottom of the main door is drafty but we didn't have a problem.

I agree with the other reviews about the windows (or rather lack of!) it would be nice for some daylight and yes the zips do get caught a lot, but seem very strong and show no sign of were from getting caught.

The only down side is that there doesn't appear to be a porch for the Mojave, which is a shame as it would be nice to have a cooking area and for this reason we may upgrade next year to a bigger model with the option of a porch.

An extremely good value warm and cosy family tent, would highly recommend!

As said many times this is a great tent. Not too hard to put up even for a 1st time camper like myself and my wife.Stayed in Lake district for 3 nights. 1st night it rained really hard all night and not a leak anywhere. 2nd day quite windy but tent stood upto it fine.Window(s) would be nice and front door is draughty but for the price this is an awesome tent!

We bought this tent last October from the very helpful people in Gooutdoor in Oxford. What a bargain! – we’ve used it four times now and it has stood up brilliantly to some really heavy downpours and quite strong winds. No leaks at all. I really like the size of the bedrooms – when there are only two of us (no grandchildren staying with us) we use the larger of the two bedrooms and use the space left as a wardrobe area. The larger bedroom is big enough to leave a good gap all round the double airbed (5ft wide) You can stand comfortably in all parts of the tent – and have the option of using the front or sides as a canopy (or all three if you are really lucky with the weather.) We bought a carpet at the same time and it makes the inside feel very comfortable. There are some useful Velcro tabs at several points outside the bedrooms – I’m sure they have a proper purpose but I don’t know what it is so I use them to hang small LED lights. Insect screens are on the windows and side doors.

When you pack up, the tent fits very well into the bag - separate compartments for the inners, the poles and the tent itself and it is possible to put it in without scraping the skin off the backs of your hands as I have done with other tents which seem to need some degree of compression. The tent was very reasonably priced (much cheaper than the RRP) and we bought it as an addition to our Vango 7-man tent and have used it much more that we thought we would. It is possible to put the tent up single-handedly although I confess I haven’t done this myself– I’ve often come to the campsite straight from work to find everything is sorted out – a habit which my husband doesn’t encourage.

We went into the Go-outdoors store for some tent pegs for our old tent and came out with the Mojave 5 as it was on special at £99. We have just got home from our first outing with it and I am very pleased. My wife has a broken arm which meant I had to put the tent up on my own which was not too much of a problem. The tent is roomy, stood up to a heavy downpour and some good winds. We were out for 5 days so it had a pretty good shake down. My only criticism would be that it is a lot of faffing about with toggles and loops to secure the front of the tent. I also feel a little more ventilation when the tent is closed up would be useful. It is a 5 person tent, but there are only two of us using it and every morning the inside of the fabric was soaking wet with condensation. I dread to think what it would be with 5 people sleeping. Once opened up in the morning however it soon dried out, and I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are thinking of buying one.

We bought this tent a few months ago from Go Outdoors in Wigan (fab shop with fantastic helpful staff)and what a bargain at £99, we got a separate ground sheet to keep bottom of tent dry whey your packing it up and it also protects the tents sewn in groundsheet. We didn't originally go for this particular one but it was bigger and nearly half the price of the one we had gone to buy. Lots of room in it, just had a very windy weekend in Carnforth and the tent stayed put, also took it to Machrihanish in Scotland where the wind was pretty forceful and again it stayed put. Only downside is the draft from the front door at night when it was cold which we blocked off with our cool boxes, going to put some velcro on as suggested above. Otherwise a superb tent, easy and quick to put up. Absolutely love it!

We purchased one of these tents to replace our previous tent which was out of date. What can we say but this little tent is fantastic, quick and easy to erect and loads of room. One down side no window but don't let this put you off. We even brought a Zenobia porch thanks to the saving we made on the tent, and although the porch isn't a tight fit it does the job and gives you even more room. But I am sure with practice we could get the porch and even better fit. You do get a gap down the one the side but even during heavy rain the inside of the porch stayed dry. We are now looking forward to using this tent on our 16 day holiday to the south of France.

Just bought a Mojave 5 Hi Gear tent. Pitched it up in the garden and decided to leave it out overnight to check for leaks.

The rain hammered down all night and we checked the tent for any leaks in the morning. None at all, we were impressed. However the wind had become gale force and we decided it might be best and safer to leave up for fear of it blowing away while trying to dismantle in such strong wind . We secured pegs as best as possible & went inside the house. When we returned to check on it an hour later we found the 3 poles had all split. The tent however was not ripped in the slightest. Now we need to replace poles on a day old tent.

To be fair I think the tent will be excellent and just unfortunate the wind was so strong.

We just bought one of these, when it was on special for £99, and for the price we paid it is a great tent. We were worried that it would have enough space for us (family of 4)but on putting it up for the 'test camp' we were astonished at size compared to our last 6 berth tent which was a heck of a lot smaller. It goes up in bout 20-30 mins easy -three poles the charm! SIG is great though as other reviews have said the front door bit flaps a bit and if cold would let in a draft, but easy fixed with velcro! also no windows means the blue fly gets a bit to blue! one big bonus with this tent is that certain outwell kids bedroom pods fit ok as there are loads of toggles to play with and only minor adjustments needed.

All in all a good tent, when we pitched it it was windy as hell and thank fully tent did not move one bit. Cant say bout its waterproof capabilities as it was dry when we tested it - but with a 3000hh all should be good.

Just spent two weeks away in Yorkshire the tent was amazing. I agree with comments about a window but my husband had a brain wave and he does not have many, he only used two sections of the porch poles and placed them at an angle in front of the side door. This enabled us to have light and air plus a little window, even though we had rain it never came in it was one of his better ideas. All in all one off the better tents we have ever had and we have had a few.

Started camping last year and really enjoyed it. This year with a growing family of 6 decided to purchase a bigger tent. We did some research and decided on a Sahara 6. When we went to purchase this tent my partner and I thought the Mojave 5 was better for us as some reviews did say the Sahara 6 can be tricky to erect and was very big. The Mojave weighed lighter with lots of space in living area for the 6 of us with tables and chairs. The 2 bedrooms a 3man and 2 man was ample enough. The sig was a plus point as well. It was a good price of only a £100.00 that made our minds up so we bought it.

We have been camping twice or ready and have not had the tent 2 weeks yet very pleased, it erected easily fits in the bag great and kept us bone dry with all the rain over Whitsun which was a lot of rain. The only downside was it would be nice to have a window and let some light in especially when the weather is bad.

Overall would recommend this tent excellent value.

Love this tent. Bought it from the new GoOutdoors in Southampton for £100. I came home from work and my wife who is a complete novice had been able to put it up on her own, rather windy and with our 2 boys under her feet too!

Spent 2 nights in it so far, lots of room. Zips got caught quite a bit but seem to be made well enough not to damage the tent. Fitted back in to the bag easily. A window would have been nice and it is very blue, however the tent stayed darker in the morning and the kids slept longer. We didn't notice a draught from the large front door but weather was reasonable for us, cant wait to take it away again soon. Tent heavy, not much of a factor for us but maybe a concern if you need to throw it into a roof box. Really good tent, very good price

First things first, yes quick and easy to put up/take down and this is the first tent that has actually gone back into its back with ease and room to spare! bonus!

Just camped for 1 night on the cliff tops at Flamborough, the weather was very unkind and we have had hail / rain / gale force wind (tree blown down in village) and this little fantastic tent stood its ground, yes it wobbled but it stayed put. There was another one of these tents in the field and this was not anchored properly with the guyropes and that did blow away, but that could have been any tent.

Only negative, I felt like an extra at Avatar it is a little blue inside when all closed up and perhaps 1 window would have been nice.

Last word, loving this tent.

Just purchased the tent this week, we have yet to go away in it, however, we put it up in the garden on Saturday and only took it down today. The tent has withstood hailstones, heavy sharp showers and wind. The tent was dry no water ingress at all. I cannot wait to have our first trip in it. We previously owned a 2009 Vango Colorado 800 DLX, whilst this was a good tent it was too big and took a great deal of time to put up.

The Mojave only took 15 mins to put up and around the same time to take down: what a joy we are totally delighted. When we have our first trip away I will update

Quick update from previous review. We went camping with our Mojave 5 for the first time in the New Forest over the early May bank holiday. We had some pretty heavy rain on the Saturday night, and not a drop penetrated the flysheet. No condensation problems either. Plenty of space in the bedrooms and easy to pitch and take down. My only criticism would be that there doesn't appear to be a purpose-designed canopy / porch for this tent (would have been useful to have one in the rain). Might have to try one of the Hi Gear ones designed for other tents.

Bought a Mojave 5 a few weeks ago - first tent we've owned as a family. No real camping experience with it (first time will be end of April) but pitched it in the garden as a practice this afternoon, and was very pleased with it. It's very straightforward to pitch with the sewn-in groundsheet. It even packs away pretty easily (once we remembered to put the bedrooms back in with it!). Very pleased with our purchase and can't wait to try it out properly.

Our friends invited us to join them on a 5 day camping holiday near Barmouth. Having never camped before we had no equipment and a very limited budget, I set about frantically scouring the internet for deals on tents. After several weeks of reading reviews and a visit to Go Outdoors, we decided to go with the Mojave 5.

We went on our first camping trip in our Mojave 5 in August 2009, our friends using their Coleman tent. It was very easy to put up and took around 30 minutes, which I thought was pretty quick considering we had never been camping before.

The tent performed very well over the 5 days. We had a little heavy rain on the second night and with me waking to the sound of dripping, panic set in. After several minutes searching the tent with a torch for a leak and not finding one or any sign of water in the tent, I realised it must have been dripping off the rear air vent onto the tent, Panic Over.

The inside is very spacious and the bedrooms are a good size (a roomy double and single). The living area is a good size and easily fit 4 adults and 2 teenagers inside with doors zipped up during the cooler evenings.

Sewn In Groundsheet was good, although the large gaping gap along the bottom of the front entrance caused quite a draft, hence the 9/10 rating. We never used this entrance during our holiday and it was pegged to prevent as much draft as possible. We will definitely be trying the sticky velcro method next time.

This was a great starter tent for us and when our daughter decides it's no longer fashionable to be seen with Mom & Dad, we can detach a bedroom and give us even more living space inside.

Tent came down just as easily as it went up and packed away into it's carry bag first time.

Our friends in their Coleman did not have such an easy ride though, having one of the guy rope points rip out of the tent and the zip failing on their second door. They were so impressed by the quality of our Mojave 5 they purchased one on their return home.

All in all a good buy.

We used the Mojave for the first time in September at the Chertsey site, and we thought it is a great tent. There is only the two of us but the stuff the oh takes we need all the space. The only thing I will change is to put some sticky back velcro along the bottom of the main front door. Apart from that an excellent tent, and we've had a few over the years.

I bought this tent for when I camp without OH as I cant quite pitch the Oregon 8 on my own. And what can I say! absolutely fantastic and cheap (£150).

Very easy to pitch on my own with help from my 7 year old carrying pegs lol! (im 5ft 6 female).

We were in very heavy wind and rain all week and this tent stood up to all it was subjected too. No leaks!

Would definitely recommend.

Have just returned from a weekend on the Yorkshire coast, the weather was torrential rain and gusty/gale force winds (the forecast was light showers) and this tent stood up to the elements magnificently, didn't budge in the wind (we do use Delta pegs) no leaks and this was on a site where '8 or nine tents were skipped'. There is just the two us and we only put one bedroom pod up, loads of room for storage, sitting, etc, three entry points is a great idea, whichever way you pitch choose the entry point that offers the most privacy, brilliant tent for the money (£150:00 online)would be adequate for weeks as well as weekends.

Just bought this tent (£150 go outdoors) and used for the 1st time (1st time camping in 20 years.!) Easy to put up (40 minutes 1st time) - Only 2 adults and used 2nd sleeping area as storage and changing area. Did everything its supposed to. As per other comments we didn't use the large front door instead using the 2 side doors (these were more than adequate). All cooking done outside - not a fan of naked flames inside a tent. Had only a small shower of rain so cannot comment on any leaks etc. Approx 25 minutes to put tent away - and yes it fits back in the bag.!

It was our first time camping, and we have already got the outwell Hartford xl but found many sites weren't accepting our large tent so my husband gave in and we purchased the mojave5 at Go outdoors for £150.

We found it easy to put up and just enough room for the 5 of us and all our gear. (everything but the kitchen sink!)

We had sun and rain and the tent held up to the rain ok, it did get a little wet coming and going out the doors but what else do you expect if its raining!

We are happy with our purchase and are looking forward to using it again.

This is our first tent and we found it easy to erect 25-30 mins not bad for first timers. Plenty of room for the four of us two adults and two young kids. Only one bad point the front door could do with a mossie net.the rooms are spacious and has good ventilation. During wet days there is loads of room to sit inside even with all our gear in the living area.

Just bought this tent and absolutely love it. Out of all tents we have owned it was the easiest and quickest to erect. Lots of room inside and we think that with the sewn in groundsheet and 3000HH is one of the best on the market at the moment for a cost of £149 (Go Outdoors). The only thing we could not comment on at the moment is the actual waterproofing as it did not rain whilst we used it. We even managed to get it back into its own bag which with our other tents mainly Vango is much harder work. Overall for the money I would highly recommend this tent.

UPDATE

I have just arrived back from two weeks of horrendous high winds, torrential rain and generally very bad weather in Anglesey for two weeks and just wanted to say that this tent is superb, it withstood all the bad weather with no leaks, broken poles etc. Absolutely fabulous and would highly recommend.

We have just down sized from a massive rage tent, as it was so big and heavy my husband suffered with his back for days after. We bought the tent and used it this week for the first time, myself 2 kids and my mum, we erected the tent no problems at all, and there really is enough room (i was a bit worried as I was use to a big one). I like it, I like it a lot. O and we did get a lot of comments from people who liked it.

Just back from our first outing official with our Mojave 5. It performed very well, very easy to put up, and only really needed a hand when bending poles into ring and pin system. After that OH finished unpacking the car and started blowing up airbed as I pitched up. We both finished at the same time!

TBH it was dry most of the weekend so no issues with water ingress. Although when we had our trial run a few weeks ago, it poured from the heavens ALL night and we were bone dry. BUT I can see where the previous poster had trouble with drips from a wet roof running straight in when opening side door. This could be an issue on a prolonged wet trip.

Plenty of space inside, bedrooms a good size, and living area coped well in the evening with 5 adults and a wheelchair all inside with doors zipped up. SIG was good, and for us the way it 'sags' at the front door made it easier for our friends son to access in his wheelchair (No way in at sides) Although I can see this being an issue for others. Perhaps some extra velcro along this section may help keep it closed?

Overall, a great starter tent for us, and when son not with us can detach a bedroom to give even more living space inside. Came down just as easily as went up and packed away without much stress.

A good buy at £149.00

Hi, just bought this tent and used for the first time as new campers. Found it really easy to put up and coped well with 2 adults & 2 Kids. After 36 hrs of rain, some torrential, it did start to seep rain. The main reason appeared to be pooling of water between the poles. As it has only 3 poles , it appears difficult to get sufficient tension on the roof panel. Does anyone have any ideas on this ? One reason may be due to the corner guys having 2 location points on the tent , but only a single guy rope, and single peg. If these were seperate guy lines , may work better . Thoughts anyone?. Might give it a try ? . Agree with the comment on the main door, a bug shield here would be good. Also you do need a outside cooking / lounging area if there are 4 + , as not a lot of space , when it is raining.

Having said all this , great tent excellent value @ £150, and we are looking forward to our next trip

Back from our wet whitby trip with the Mojave 5 s first outing. First the positives. Easy to put up, fly screens to both sides of the tent and both sleeping compartments. Plenty of vents, no condensation. The negatives we found was the tent leaked in from the ground sheet and after prolonged rain (all bloody day and night) parts of the roof section started to leak. (not much though)

The main negative was the groundsheet was sewn in to only the 3 sides leaving one hell of a draft from the front section that was not.(why bother with the fly screens?) due to the weather we experienced we also noted the amount of rain that enters the tent every time you enter exit from either the front or side doors from the tents design slant. The other negative in my own view is no windows. That may be a good or a bad thing in others eyes though. The tent does seem well made but just was not for us. Currently in the market for the higear corado 6 I think

Just had our first outing with the Mojave and I think we're impressed.

As others have said, it's very roomy - the big bedroom fit in 2 adults on airbeds, and well as our dog (in his crate!). The second room we use for storage, but it would easily fit 2 adults. The living area is also very roomy - perhaps 2 roomy for 2 of us, but it certainly came in useful when it was too wet to leave the tent!

The Mojave is easy to erect - it takes the two of us about 25 minutes from start to finish, but we're still novices. You do need at least two people though, especially in the wind, as the whole thing was threatening to take off when we did it!

We had a lot of wind and torrential rain - the tent held up very well in the wind. It performed ok in the rain, but after 24 hours of it we did have some leaks through the ceiling - a few drips on the top of the bedroom bits. Still - everything stayed almost-dry and once the rain stopped the tent dried out very quickly.

It's easy to pack away too, which is always a bonus for us, and it you pack it well (we managed to pack it better than it came when we bought it) the tent bag shrinks and becomes a bit more manageable. The bag is great though - makes it easy to transport.

So, all in all I'd say it's a good novice family tent, as long as you don't have more than a couple of days of driving rain!

I've downsized from a Vango Vista 800 which was a fantastic family tent, but family and friends have bought their own tents, so the vista 800 was too large. We looked round a was stuck between Vango Icarus 500 and Mojave 5, we took advice and bought the Icarus got it home and erected it and found it wasn't for us.

We felt the doors wouldn't keep my dog secure and he would get out, so we purchased the Mojave 5 and what a great tent, both side doors zip fully round and have mossie nets so you can have both doors open and no insects get in. The bedrooms are very spacious and are separate 3 and 2, the living area is very good, enough room for all our equipment and at night we had 6 adults and a large dog in and was comfortable. We had all weathers scorching sun(the side doors opened with nets down and let fresh air in), high winds (the tent stood up very well) and torrential rain (not one leak). We erected and pegged out in 20 mins and dismantled in about the same time, no problems at all. Great Tent For first timers and diehards alike. P.S Don't listen to reps at go outdoors ha ha.

Manufacturer's Description

Easy to erect, easy to dismantle, and offering generous living space, the Mojave 5 is a great choice for families wanting comfortable, fuss-free camping, or couples wanting extra space for storage and fun.

It pitches outer first, with separate 3 and 2 person rooms that clip in to the underside.

With taped seams, a sewn-in groundsheet and completely waterproof outer layer (3000HH), you can be sure of total protection from rain and draughts.

The poles are angled to give you maximum headroom throughout the tent, so no need to stoop when you're inside. The pole sleeves have slick inners to make pitching the tent quick and easy.

In warmer weather, the breathable inner and 2 side doors with full mesh panels give you superb ventilation and allow plenty of light into the tent. The large front door can be extended out as a canopy, using the steel porch poles, offering shelter from sunshine or rain.

It has bright and reflective pre-attached guylines to keep it stable and secure, and more visible in the dark. There's also a electrical cable access point allowing you to use appliances inside the tent with the minimum of fuss.

A practical and versatile option for families, group campers or anyone who needs comfort and breathing room when out in the wild.
