User Reviews of the Coastline 4 Deluxe

Have used this tent for overnight and longer holidays-up to a week since 2010. Have the porch which is a great extra meaning you can keep all the chairs and tables outside.
We've encountered hail and rain and not got wet.
We're a family of 4 - the kids are 5 & 7 - its ok whilst they're small-may find it a bit small in v bad weather.
Has useful features like electric hole, vents all round, self rolling up side windows.
Pitching takes 2 of us 40 mins I'd say but we have had trouble here and had to fix the centre pole fixings more than once - its really tough to get that pole in. I should imagine if its windy it'd be quite tough too for 2 to hold it all in position once poles are in.

This is a great tent. Quick to erect with two people once you get used to it. The main technique is that you need to stretch the poles out to get it nice and tight in-between. Our front door does seal, wind did not flap in. We purchased this in 2012 and I notice a few slight differences to some other pictures. The self rolling windows are a nice touch. I've just purchased the add on porch to add extra outside and cooking space, this is a good price on Amazon at £30. Two adults and two small children made it cosy, I'm not sure about four adults.

Good luck quality tent easy to pitch and use the we have the zip on porch. Only negative is the door does not seal at the bottom so the wind does blow under. Stands the wind well and rain. I only takes us about 39min to pitch. Seems up well too doesn't leak even after being used many times. The great value tent all round lots of room I side too

We decided we needed a smaller tent than our Mojave 5 that we could take away on short stays and decided to buy the Coleman Coastline 4 deluxe, we chose this tent in truth mainly on the price.
We purchased the tent and got a free canopy which was an added bonus and all for £114.
The tent is light weight and good quality, we did find it very hard to erect and are still not sure where we are going wrong. However once it is up it is a good little tent, its not massively spacious but is just what we needed, it is a 4 man tent but there is 2 of us and I would say you would struggle to comfortably get more people in it than that along with all your camping equipment.
The tent is very tall and my husband who is over 6ft can stand up comfortably in it, we have a zip at the bottom of the front flap and therefore haven't had the problems other people have had.
We definitely have problems putting it up and getting it to zip up once erected and are unsure why but hopefully the more we use it the easier it will be and hopefully we can work out what we are doing wrong but we don't believe it is a design fault, I'm pretty sure it is us.
We have invested in a footprint and highly recommend the canopy which with a windbreak along the sides acts as an extension to the tent.
The tent has several windows and the side ones have a metal piece inserted in them which means they roll up when you undo them which is a great feature.
No drafts, leaks or condensation problems. There is only 1 zip for electricity cables which could be a pain if your cable wont stretch to that side of the tent, there are air flaps on all 4 corners and a zipped area at the bottom which you can buy a fan to fit in to create extra air circulation.
Fantastic cheap tent if your looking for good quality, tall yet not a particularly large tent for two people.

I would just like to update my review of this tent, in my previous review we had used in fair weather, and we have been very lucky over the summer as we have taken it away about 10 times so far, and been extremely lucky with the weather - until 2 weeks ago when we went away to a week to the New Forest, again weather brilliant, however we did have 12 hours of uninterrupted heavy rain, and the result dry as a bone! well done Coleman we love this tent! We have no complaints with this tent :)

I own the 2011 version with the Zip on the bottom 3000 hydrostatic. This tent is my dream.
After more than 12 years in the British Army as a Chef, while working in the field, pitching and striking a 12x12 at all hours and times, the coastline 4 deluxe takes me 1 hour at the most to erect single handed.
There is a problem with condensation if you close the Cool vent, however, very happy with my tent.

I bought this tent last year (2010) and have used it three times now.
Overall it's good value for money although I do have to agree that the opening at the bottom of the door did cause a few minor problems when it was windy. Despite trying to hook the door down in the middle (from the inside of the tent) it came loose during a particularly windy night, the door then flapped inside the tent and all of the rain ran down the door in to the tent.Coleman really could do a bit better with this aspect of the design. Appreciate that it needs to be ventilated, but it could be a lot better!
All said though, a good all-round tent which was good value for the money.

Fantastic tent for the price. Very easy to pitch (found it easier than our Vango). First time of use we had gale force winds and rain, the tent stood still and dry but the Canopy zip came undone.
Our Coleman tent had a bottom zip unlike others in there reviews so we had no problem with a the tent leaking or letting items in.
We have just returned from Devon in hot dry weather and had no problem with condensation (unlike the Vango).
Love the tent and am more than happy to keep on using it. Spacious enough for us two and our two dogs and all the other stuff you need for a long camping trip.

Brought this tent to downsize as only two of us and the dog. Easy to erect spacious enough for two, good in high winds, down side tent windows leaked badly at first due to a very rainy day,no zip on door bottom does let in drafts cured by putting spring clips along outside of door along the bottom and the base, leaving a gap one end to enter and exit freely at night on the whole would recommend this tent for summer use has a canopy extension which works very well.

We wanted a spacious tent but small enough when packed to fit in my MR2 this tent reaches all my expectations. Plenty of room for 2 of us and storage.Went away last weekend it was very windy the tent was stable when other tents poles snapped and others had there corners ripped away from the tent pegs. We highly recommend delta ground anchors.

Bought our tent last year, however never got to use it until this weekend. We have had a large tent in the past and wanted to downsize as just the 2 of us and the dog, this seemed perfect. It lived up to this when we went away for a couple of nights, although the weather was kind to us, I can only reflect my review on this. Dry as a bone all weekend. When we put up the bedroom pod was pulling a bit on the zip, moved pole & adjusted guy and fine! felt rather cozy at night, This is marketed for 4 people, but we bought it for 2 and is comfortable for 2 no more! We didnt have an issue with door our previous tent had no SIG and we pegged the door on our old tent did the same with the Coleman and again ok.Will need to see how it holds up in the wet & windy weather. Watch this space!

We have used this tent about 4 times this year and have mainly been very happy with it. Ours came with the large porch which was great, we put windbreaks round it and it made an extra living area. The door not zipping along the bottom worried me at first but we put a pole through the loops at the bottom and that kept it from flapping and the draughts out. We found it reasonably easy to put up once we had done it a couple of times. One problem we had was we bought the footprint ground sheet which covered the whole length including the porch, this was ok until we had rain and then the noise of the dripping from the sides of the porch onto the groundsheet and the floods on the groundsheet soon had us roll it up and decide to only use it under the main tent. We had what felt like gale force winds and very heavy rain one night, the tent held up fine but we did have leaks along the seems at the side of the tent facing the wind but the weather was extreme and I think it wouldn't have been a problem normally. We like this tent overall.

Bought a Coleman coastline deluxe 4 in may and have used it 5 time this year. No problems with the first 3 then we got some strong winds in august at shell. They was 32mph winds but the canopy detached itself from the zip twice, then the guideline ripped off the front of it tearing the canopy.Good with the wet weather but remove the canopy if your going to get some strong wind.Could put it up in about 40 mins and the main tent is quite sturdy in the wind. No leaks in heavy downpour for 2 full days.

All the previous comments are generally spot on. The biggest issue appears to be the omission of a full zip on the door. If it is pegged down correctly this is not a problem. I used this tent recently in a high winds/rain (strong enough for branches to come off trees)and it held together perfectly. A very well made tent and thoroughly recommended

This is a great tent, some of the comments are very misleading
Notes:
1. If it took an hour to put up on your own, that's because this is a 4 man tent, so most likely it's made to be put up by two people at least. You can do it on your own but it's tough because of that reason. Even so, it's not as tough to put up on your own as some of the 2 man's I've had in the past.
2. The gap at the front is necessary to let out condensation - otherwise you're going to wake up to the rainforest! It doesn't create a draft unless you don't pin it down, or if you haven't done your guy ropes correctly on the doors
However, I would say this - the instructions are not clear on the tent about how to erect it, but it's such a basic setup you would struggle to find somebody unable to work it out.
It's dry, wind resistant, strong, good looking, and really spacious. After numerous Vangos, outwells and (god forbid) Hi Gear tents i'd say this one is an absolute bargain.

I bought this tent after seeing it in our local camping showroom and being impressed with the size and build quality. Then, after getting home, I looked online for reviews (hoping to find lots of positives to equal the sales pitch that I got invstore). I was somewhat dismayed to read bad reviews (Amazon in particular) regarding the zipless bottom. I had fears that wind and rain would be blowing in all night. Luckily, I don't think that reviewer actually ever even tested the tent, as I can safely say there is no problem.
After researching online I found that this zipless bottom is common to SIG tunnel tents. On the first morning, I actually thought that the tent had a leak as there was water dripping (not much) from both of the window loops. This wasn't water, though, but condensation: it is true, you do need ventilation in tents with a SIG as condensation is a real problem. I know it wasn't rain now as it did it the next morning when there had been no rain. You can get around the problem by opening the tent up in the morning and letting it air.
As for the door/water blowing in and it being hard to close from inside I had no problems. The tent has 3 loops on the bottom of the door (one at either side and one in the middle) which you can easily reach from inside the tent when the door is fully zipped down. Just get a small sized peg and push it in with your hand and the door will be secure with enough ventilation to keep down condensation. There is also a lip around the base of the groundsheet which keeps water out.
I tested this tent in the windiest conditions (80mph winds + thunderstorms) and there wasn't a drop of water inside. The tent took a total battering all night long and was fine the next day. This is a very good quality tent.
To review the tent itself, it is very spacious inside; you can easily stand in both living and sleeping areas. I'm on my own with my dog and managed to put it up easily -- just remember when pushing the poles through not to force them; push them in a way and then move to where the pole end is and feed it through a bit more then go back and work the creases to the edge. The sleeping area can be split into two double bed areas, one big (2 double) area or one double area + extended living space. It has a hole for EHU and also a vent hole for a Coleman fan in the summer. It also has automatic windows which curl up as you unzip them -- no need to fast them up.
One small problem (hence 8 stars) was that there isn't an insect net built in. However, go along to your local market and ask the material stall if they would put you together a 60 x 65 inch square with velcro on each corner. I got two for a tenner and they work fine when the tent is airing in the morning. I'd also recommend a groundsheet as you can they dry the tent off at home even if the lawn is wet. Other than that, I am very content with this tent and it has been well worth the money.

I used the tent for the first time this weekend (8/11th july) went to the north of the lake district. Pitched it myself in about half an hour. Looked the bees knees once it was up. However, it rained and blew gales more or less non-stop for two days and night. Result wet through, for want of another word. I presumed it was from the gap at the bottom of the door (no zip!), but it also rained the the window seals as well. At least the sleeping compartments were ok .Or so I thought. Rain also came in at the rear of the tent as well leaving puddles between the groundsheet of the tent and the sleeping compartments groundsheet. Result, slight seepage into the air bed. I should have kept my £125 in my pocket.

Great tent - we were new to camping and liked it so decided to buy a tent with a living area - we are delighted with it!
Used it at peebles last week for the first time and as the other reviews advise it was easy and quick to put up and down and does fit back into the bag quite easily. During the night of our stay the weather was very bad - very windy and rainy and the tent stood up to the weather very well! I would be confident that it can stand up to all weathers.
People keep mentioning about the gap in the door but we did not find it to be a problem we pinned the door down and the rain just ran off onto the ground. No leaks in the rain.
Paid £115 from amazon for this and delighted with it.
Friends bought the 6 man and it was good too and had no problems in the stormy weather either. Also easy to put up and take down.

We had been looking for a tent for ages and couldn't decide what to get. We ended up getting the Coastline 4 deluxe tent, canopy, carpet and extra groundsheet for £199 which we thought was a really good price.
We were really pleased with our first outing. As per other reviews, there was plenty of room for 2 adults and 1 large dog. It took us 1 hour from getting out of the car to sitting down with a beer. Not bad for our first attempt!
The only disappointment with the tent is that they didn't put a zip on the bottom of the door. Its not a great problem as you can hook the middle, but it can let a bit of a draft in.
We did have a tiny leak from the seam around the window but am assuming that this was because the tent was new and didn't pre wet the tent before our trip.
Would definitely recommend this tent.

New to camping we liked this tent because it is simple to pitch and large enough for the three of us (2 adults, 1 child). We have just returned from our 1st two nights away in the tent.
Really easy to pitch, although the instructions are inadequate so we used this site to get advice and it worked really well!
Nice living area, plenty of room for table and three armchairs and room for storage. I agree with Growvirigns comment earlier that the lack of a completely zipped door is strange and it did flap about a bit.We took down the divider in the bedroom area and all slept in together.
We purchased the porch which we found great as it provided valuable shade in the very hot sun and would have provided a rain shelter as well.
Very quick to strike the tent too, even managed to get it back into the bag!
All in all we feel it is a good tent for our needs and can't wait to use it again!

We recently purchased this tent to use as a quick pitch weekend tent for the 3 of us (2 adults and 1 9yr old) as opposed to taking our Montana 6 for short breaks.
Wanted a tunnel type with enough space to sit indoors should the weather be against us, SIG, and plenty of head height(cant be doing with all that crawling in and out of tents being nearly 6 ft!) and this tent ticked all the boxes!
Bedroom big enough for the 3 of us, probably cramped with 4 though. Plenty of space to sit in camping chairs indoors on an evening. As with the previous review, disappointed with front door not being sealed at front but was ok fastened down with the elastic hoop in centre of door.
New self roll windows are a novelty but only downside is no fly screen in windows so cant open for ventilation. Small ventilation port at ground level for the cooling fan Coleman produces, without fan in situ very little air circulation.
Saying that its proved to be perfect for a weekend camp. Took 15 minutes first pitch having just taken it straight out of the bag! Front zip on awning useful, with wind break down one side its proved to be perfect outdoor storage for cooking stuff etc.
Good on price too, we paid £125 including front porch. Haven't bothered with carpet, large picnic rug does same job, did buy extra ground sheet though to use as footprint great at keeping SIG clean and extra layer of insulation.

Tested this out for the first time over the bank holiday having purchased it from Amazon for £110. A bargain!
Its an easy one to get up which could be done by 1 person although I think 2 people makes things a lot easier. Just 3 poles all the same length to slot in then peg it and guyropes. The inner tent hung inside. Reckon 20mins max once you have done it once.
Plenty of space in the bedroom for a large double airbed with space all around. Bedrooms can be divided though this would makes things a lot more cramped. A roomy porch for cooking and storage. (based on 2 people sharing) and we were able to sit and read/play cards/eat inside without feeling cramped. The real bonus is the height. Being 6ft2 myself there is loads of headroom throughout.
Only negative is the front door. There are two zips down each side but nothing to seal along the bottom. So it flapped around and let in draughts when we were inside. Had to put in pegs to secure it, not really ideal doing this from the inside.
However despite this I found it a well built, high quality tent that was well tested by the typical bank holiday weekend weather of wind and rain.

New to camping as a family, so starting small with this 4 berth tunnel tent, which came with footprint, porch and carpet all in for £199 from Yeomans at the Caravan & Boat Show at end of February.
I've had a trial run, which I had to do on my own, and it took me an hour to pitch and the same to strike.! I'm hoping that's because I've yet to learn the tricks of the trade, however the instructions were pretty naff and there doesn't seem to be much help on the net anywhere.
Not used it in anger yet, but looking forward to it.
Will re-write the review when I've used it properly.
