User Reviews of the Biscaya 370

By: Adam in Kent  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2006   Rating:   Date: 24/08/2010

This review is relative to other large family polyester tents I’ve owned. Our c2006 Biscaya 370 all season canvas version is superbly constructed, really well designed and should last a lifetime - my parents also still have their 1966 Cabanon frame tent! What I like about the Biscaya is:

• The bathtub groundsheet – this is truly waterproof (I’ve been flooded in other tents), easy to clean too

• The canvas is totally waterproof – used this in Brittany Aug 2007 – 5.5 days of continual rain and it didn’t leak (if you were there you’d remember)

• The large roll back windows on 3 sides plus rear vents – great ventilation (I’ve been cooked in polyester tents with useless dart type flaps that let in no air) - and they don't leak a single drop either when closed

• The internal living area is large enough to use for a family seated inside

• The sheltered external cooking area provides rain coverage for cooking and a space for family sitting outside even when raining

• The entire front rolls away for full ventilation

• There are only 3 guys – very quick to set out and you can park right close to the tent on smaller pitches if you need to and don’t trip on them in the dark

• The poles are universal – can’t get them mixed up

• Quite quick to set up - 20 mins is realistic

• Looks great when pitched - no sags even on a dewy morning

• Sheds the wind pretty well for a large tent

What isn’t so good is:

• The weight and volume is about 30% higher than polyester equivalent

• The cost, especially with the current euro exchange rate though at the time ours was about 1.5 times a polyester equivalent from a well known competitor (but I think 10 times the value)

• The three bags are all different - hessian bag for the poles, canvas bag for the groundsheet and poly mesh bag for the tent itself? Why?

Great tent. We bought this tent after viewing the dealers outdoor demo in a thunderstorm - there was no contest, these tents were the only ones that were dry inside!

Chuffed to bits with our Biscaya 370 polyester

Very simple to put up, a little effort but simple to do. It has just four aluminium semicircle tubes as the frame and these are all the same so easy peasy!

These are the best tents

Top top quality and it shows

Rock solid, they don't need guy ropes!

All tents should be made this way

We have been really, really happy with our Biscaya 370. We had it up for 5 consecutive weeks in Pembrokeshire last summer and it withstood gales, rain, hail and even a couple of days of sunshine. It is so solid that it just doesn't move so when the neighbouring tents are swaying about it just sits there. The only reason I've given it less that 10 is because when we got back I put the groundsheet on the line in the garden to air for a couple of days and it hit the shed roof in the wind and split. I have emailed Cabanon and left an answerphone message for advice on repairs but they have failed to get back to me. So the tent is Ace but the company so far isn't.

We loved Cabonon tents as we previously owned a frame tent, the Antigua, we sold that when we saw the 370. It took 5 trips to finally buy it, it was the only tent on the field that we were drawn too, it was the most expensive tent too, but we bought it. We love it and we wouldn't part with it, its so easy to put up, totally weather proof wind proof, very sturdy and the lightweight poles are easy to lug around.

We have had no trouble in 4 years with ours, couldn't wish for a better tent, there just isn't anything out there that is worth changing to. There is a lot of pegging but it wont move once its done, and the front canopy is huge, its like having the living area again, you can sit out there comfortably in the rain and thunderstorms and don't get wet, totally ideal

You can get it up in less than 20 mins you cant get the poles mixed up as they're all the same. Large bedroom, we have a queen sized bed in ours and we put a carpet in this year oooh so warm on your feet

I bought a second hand Biscaya 320 last year and have although I think it's a great tent it has a problem with the rubber eyelets that are used to fasten the inner sleeping area to the floor. 1 eyelet is missing altogether and another is peeling away from the floor. I have just contacted Cabanon in the hope that they will send me another eyelet from their factory which I will glue in place myself. Anyone else had the same problem and if so how was it resolved ?

Excellent quality tent for a max of 4 people. Used twice so far stood up to a good soaking by heavy rain. Zip open front great when its hot weather. Owned Cabanon Espace before - this tent is of the same quality. It take 2 persons at least an hour to put up fully pegged out. It is bulky and the storage bags could be improved (handles would help for lifting). However once it is erected plenty of space for storage & to move around. No drafts with the zip up ground sheet. I took advice of the last reviewer and also purchased the sun canopy - keeps the rain off the door in a storm - well worth the money. Good investment for future years.

We have used our 370 in all weathers for the last 3.5 years and have never regretted spending the money. It is by far the best tent we have ever owned and I would recommend it to anyone.

A little tip for the pole channel zips, thread a shoe lace through the zip fastener, it makes closing the zip far easier and prevents that horrible canvas burn on finger tips.

Having only bought the Biscaya 370 new November 2008, my first pitch has been a test pitch in my garden. For those looking at the 370 I can say it is a superb tent, one person can pitch, although the help of another would speed things up. The 370 is the only one in the Biscaya range that is available in a choice of three canvas types, Cotton, Polycotton, Polyester, all other Biscaya's are Polycotton (all season polyester) I chose the Cotton Canvas, which is the only model in the entire Biscaya range that comes with Steel poles all other Biscaya's use aluminium poles. The pack size of the 370 is large, but manageable, complete with optional Sun-Canopy mine tips the scales at 57Kg, in three bags. The main canvas comes in a white sack, I have changed this now for the Isabella medium sized awning bag, which makes packing a lot easier.

We've just got a 2nd hand 370 - thanks ebay! - and have so far only used it for one week, and we're completely hooked! Love it. We already liked Cabanon tents, this is our 3rd in 20 years. Sold the frame tent on - too big for us; kept the Pyramide 4 for short breaks, but this one is so spacious, and easy to walk round in, without the flappiness and other disadvantages of frame tents. Haven't yet tried its light alloy poles in serious wind, but had plenty of rain & stayed bone dry.

The 'front porch' idea is superb, you can still get plenty of light and air, and stay dry.

It indeed goes up easily with one person, better with 2, though I have yet to manage it in 20 minutes.

We're now approaching 60, and reckon it should keep us camping until we're 70 at least, as long as we can still fit its bulk into our car.

The Cabanon Biscay 320 tent is an excellent tent. Ideal for the smaller family. Stands up to all weathers. A good tip that will save you time and also wear and tear on the heavy duty ground sheet zip, is to leave it attached when putting away.

This tent is an excellent investment and will last me many years to come.

We have a Biscaya 320 as there are only two of us. I can confirm what the other reviewers have said. The Biscaya is a brilliant tent. We previously had a Cabanon frame tent but this is far superior. If there is a better designed and manufactured tent I have yet to see one. The zipped in heavy duty groundsheet is brilliant, we have had some problem with the zip but we always get there in the end. We have been using a silicon spray on the zip which helps.

We have had extreme conditions in it and can confirm that it is the most secure tent we have come across.

The heavy duty canvas is bulky but as one of the other reviewers said it is worth it for the warmth and comfort.

Cabanon are not cheap but as the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'. As we use the tent for approx 11 weeks per year, mostly abroad, we need something of high quality and this delivers in spades. Well done Cabanon.

I can echo the comments about the Biscaya, ours is a2007 440 with the kitchen extension on,its brill. The only thing that we found to be wrong with our model is the electricity

Entry is on the opposite side to the kitchen so the lead has to go around the back of the inner or across the doorway, our dealer Don valley sports reported this back to Cabanon and now the 2008 is on the right side result.

This is a brilliant 'base/family' sized tent. It has a lovely open and light feel inside. My 6'5'' husband can stand tall in the center of the tent - a real plus for him.
It is extreemly well made and will withstand high wind and torrential rain (have camped in both these conditions and remained dry and warm).
It is a breeze to put up and can be done so by one person although it is easier with two. There are minimal guy ropes as it's design ensures it is safe in the wind. The front fully unzips so that when it is hot (have camped in France with this tent) the tent can be quickly cooled and it also then provides good shade.
The sun canpoy is definatly worth the investment - although in the UK we have mainly used this as a rain canopy! It gives extra space that is well protected from the elements. Down side is it's bulk, but then you don't get this size and quality without bulk. I would rather take away less clothes and be dry and warm.

All in all a brilliant tent that works. It is pricey and heavy but the joy of camping in it at all times of the year has made it a good investment.
