i have the same type of filling systym as the orginal post,  at first it seems a pain, but having had a van where you just put the hose in the filler opening when turning on the tap there was a likely scene where the pressure of water would push the hose back out and drop onto the floor. was a two person job just to fill up. with the whale type you cannot use watering cans etc you have to use the whale fitting, but it locks on to the filling point and you just stand there and turn on the tap. don't know about leaving connect while on site as when the tank is full the the excess comes out through the overflow pipe of the tank,  here's what we do, we fill up when we arrive on site, ( we have a water meter at home, and it saves travelling with weight) we have a 5liter container which we use for drinks only kept in a cupboard in the motorhome, and i have a 10liter container which we use to top up the tankwith a extenal pump, just switch on the external pump till container is empty then switch it back to internal pump, unless we move off site then when we get back i just top up the tank from the site tap.

-------------
keep on moving
