What is it with 99% of motorhome drivers/owners ? When I'm in my car and I wave at motorhome drivers I get ignored but when I'm in the motorhome loads of other motorbike drivers wave, come on fellow drivers be polite and wave at every one. Cheers

When I drive my motorhome
Motorhomers wave at me
Now I'm driving in my car
A motorhome ain't what they see
That's the price that we all pay
And identity comes to nothing
I can't tell you where we're going
I guess there was just no way of knowing.

I'd turn that around & say what is it with 1% of motorhome drivers that wave at other drivers?

I've noticed something similar myself.
When driving down the Autoroute with bikes hanging on the towbar, I don't hear a peep out of cyclists, yet try cycling past them on a piste cyclable, and you get bombarded with waves, face wide smiles, and "Bonjours" to almost sickly proportions!

Weird lot, those cyclist types! I've had un ouef of them!

Nice use of the New Order lyrics.

It sums up my thoughts on the matter.

If you're driving a MH and you see a MH you expect a wave, if you see a car, it's just a car and you'd not be expecting and therefore, not see a wave.

My experience is that it's NOT 99% of MHers that respond to the wave with a wave, it's closer to 75%, I'd suggest that those that don't wave either don't know the protocol (forgivable), are too busy concentrating on their driving (understandable), or are just grumpy gits (unforgivable).

Campervans of the VW type - no return wave. They are a special group.
Hired MHs (judging by the decals) - what? Wave? Why?
Massive MHs - what we call “the jacuzzis” because what else is all that space for? - never had a wave yet.
When we had the Autosleeper Clubman - enthusiastic waves, especially from other Clubmen, from the other side of a 6 lane M-way.
We will keep waving.

Drive in Ireland, everyone waves there, to everyone! Or they did in the mid 90's when we drove from Manchester to Dingle Bay via the Holyhead ferry. S was 18, enjoyed most of the driving OH's company car, and was delighted to find how 'wavey' the Irish were!

Would these be single fingered waves or two fingered waves?

Personally, I'd much rather all drivers paid attention to the road!

I would wonder what was happening if car drivers started waving at me whilst in the MH!
Unless at passing places of course 😎

It's just a case of like for like. When I bought my Smart car some years back, it was one of the first in the area. Other Smart owners waved and pedestrians gawped at the strange looking car. Now they are commonplace nobody gives them a second look.

When I was a bus driver, other bus drivers often waved, and the same thing happened when I moved to coaches. The only ones who ever waved to me when I was driving my car were those who knew me and my car.

Best Regards,
Colin

Years ago it was common practice for VW campervan drivers to wave at each other...it was a sort of unofficial club. I don't know if drivers of other makes of campervans did the same.

Also many years ago when the RAC and AA rode motorcycle combinations and were often seen standing at the side of the road waiting for jobs, they would salute anyone displaying the relevant badge on the car grill...not sure what they did if it was the wrong badge, probably spat or something

When we had our old Landrovers (Type 2 and a 2A) we used to acknowledge others by waiving and most people waived back. It was a sort of nice to see someone else who appreciates them/is daft enough to run one sign.

When we got our first campervan, a VW T4, about 17 years ago almost every other campervan and some motorhomes waived when passing and we waived back, when it was safe, for the same reason. Some even had huge foam hands in their windscreen that they waived. Once again it was an acknowledgement of a hobby.

Now on our fourth van we no longer bother unless we see another Murvi or are acknowledging something, such as giving us priority when passing, but we do that with cars and lorries as well. As the number of campervans and motorhomes had increased we sometimes see as many vans/motorhomes on our journeys as we do cars. If we waved at them wed never stop and prefer to concentrate on the driving/scenery instead.

Reading various groups and forums, they still have huge foam hands. I too prefer to watch the road, especially when on a motorway or dual carriageway. Different matter when passing up close on a regular road.
