It was wonderful to see Brodie the (big!) polar bear cub LEAP into the water after the ball (aka seal), while mum Victoria looked on.

A good way to see the wildlife without having to visit the North or South POLE.

Polar bears look PALE, despite having black skin, because their fur is translucent: not white! (Interesting fact from the Keeper at the talk & feed session at the Highland Wildlife Park; they get apples & carrots as part of their diet & a whole bottle of cod liver oil every day, which is the safe way to check their teeth.)

Polar bears are being fed on apples and carrots? Sounds like a tall TALE, to me! I know black bears and grizzly bears are omnivores but I thought polar bears were carnivores?

They do get red meat: must be a good diet because the MALE cub isnít 2 years old yet & is almost bigger than his mum.

I agree. It's not the SAME as viewing them in the wild.

These bears were all bred in captivity, the enclosure for them at Kincraig is the biggest in the world. And itís for the SAKE of the species, because theyíre losing their habitat as the ice melts with climate change. Sadly, the next generation might only be able to see polar bears in places like this (avoid Singapore Zoo, a tiny area out in the heat, bear showing stress behaviour, very upsetting.)

Changing the topic, we do try to buy local and Rothiemurchas (you might have stayed at one of their campsites?) had Highland beef for SALE, from their own fold of cattle.

The distillery at Port Ellen on Islay has reopened after 40+ years, but I donít think Iíll find the whisky in my shopping MALL.

Why not try Tobermory Distillery Visitor Centre on Isle of MULL. I can recommend the place.
