raftguid1977 : "best bet is with electrical goods is just write down the serial number or take a picture of it on your phone and keep it for a few days"

Exactly. We realised as soon as we'd handed it over that we should have done that. Good on you to have remembered in advance! I don't think we'll ever risk ebay again with electrical items. We also did the facebook trick for our TV and had a known person come to get it. Not so much cash but a lot less hassle and police calling!

Gave up selling Ebay recently too expensive, time consuming & fraught with peril! Chuck it, charity shop or sell to a known person now if I can.

People in general GRRRR - We're very lucky with our neighbours except they like to comment on anything we do. I had a huge 2 day clear out of the shed & garden recently then had the junk cleared by a licensed man & van company. The weather was nice & they were all out giving an opinion 'why are you throwing that out/why do you own such a thing/why are you keeping that/your wasting your money/you could sell that/what you want to do is............' I smiled & laughed at it all through gritted teeth.

ooohhhh I feel better now after that mini rant.

Folk moan at abysmal trade in prices offered by car & caravan dealers. The dealers answer would be that the ease of leaving old vehicle at dealers & driving away in the new one does not come without cost, if you don't like it try selling it yourself.

I had experience of freecycle recently where stuff I put up for taking was then advertised on Gumtree for sale. Images and everything were put up there with a copy/paste of my text. If they then got a seller they would come back to me and take the item and then sell it on to their buyer.

If you put anything on freecycle specify that no onward sellers will be tolerated and that you will be searching the boards to check your item hasn't been posted on gumtree etc.

There's nothing illegal in it I suppose but it is downright cheeky!

They'd be banned from my local Freecycle group for doing that.

it works the other way too, i.e, sellers who dont respond. I have seen an item on ebay and asked if she had a buy it now in mind. She asked me how much I wanted to pay, so I replied with my answer and said I would pick up and pay cash on saturday morning. Ive never had any response from her. Now that the bids have started to roll in, she cant add the buy it now, so I will bid and with a bit of luck, I will get the item for less than I was willing to pay on the buy it now. She would have been guaranteed a sale just by replying to messages.
