Absolutely. We planned, we made lists and we managed. It's not rocket science. The big outfits say they want to provide more flexibility for the customer with longer opening hours - what they really mean is they want to wring as much money out of people as they possibly can. At what cost to the work/life balance of the workers though?

Spot-on Hedgehugger. They simply don't give a monkeys about the work/life balance of their employees, that is the crux of the matter. It's all about money-grabbing.

you really do have a very low opinion of todays employers.

i have just nursed mum through end of life care. i was allowed to take all my annual leave in one go, then i was allowed another 5 weeks sick leave on full pay, not SSP and they then put another weeks bereavement leave on the end. paid in full.

they stayed in contact throughout, offered to arrange private counselling if needed at no cost and were always available for a quick chat. they reminded me that as part of my benefit package i and my family had digital access to a private GP and could access that 24 hrs a day if needed.

when i returned to work i was given the standard interview, in the presence of the union rep (at the companies request) and informed that seeing as my last shift was over two months earlier, they would put me on a weeks worth of short shifts with a "buddy" to assist me to settle back in if needed.

at the end of my first shift back, i was called in again for another informal chat to see if i still felt ready to return.

i have the 24th to the 27th inclusive off for christmas and new years eve and new years day off too.

our christmas raffle prizes this year consist of xboxes, playstations, 10 amazon echo`s, 10 google home speakers, 4 x fire 7 tablets, £550 in shopping vouchers, 5 x year gym memberships plus smaller prizes. all paid for by the company. times that by 30 depots around the country.

we get a christmas bonus and another bonus for attending every shift over christmas.

not all employers are the same.

We did...so it was nice to be able to pop into a shop during a brief break on Boxing Day to buy a slice of bread and a slither of cheese for tea...assuming we had time for tea.

Was that final sentence ďYou will be redundent (sic) soon - lol.Ē really required? Did it add anything useful to the thread following the original post, thatís visible to anyone looking online. No, I didnít think so either.
But Merry Christmas anyway!

Is it Ocado? I'll be placing an order after reading this. Sounds like this company deserves success.

Wishing you some Christmas cheer, Gedsjeep, since you've been through a demanding (and I hope rewarding) time. Respect to you.

bob, i could cut and paste like you did, (but from more grown up sites) but there really isnt any point.

ocado stocks nearly 60,000 lines. 5000 of them are from waitrose.

yes, the deal ends soon. Ocado actually asked waitrose to allow the deal to finish earlier than it should have.

because then we start delivering 20,000 marks and spencers products in a very well publicised joint venture worth 675 million pounds to ocado. thats alongside the 55,000 ocado and propitiatory brands that we stock. the company operates warehouses in 9 countries and has tech sites in another three. they are partnered with Kroger,Sobeys, Morrisons, Groupe Casino, Coles Supermarkets, ICA Group, Bon Preu Group. thats pretty much most of the largest retailers around the world.

they have just signed a deal with Aeon, the largest supermarket group in japan to build warehouses out there. the deal is worth about 6bn ÔŅĹ (over 1Tn Jpy.)

so bob, as i said earlier...

ocado and waitrose are separate companies.
ocado stocks some waitrose branded foods, just like asda stock Heinz.
ocado and waitrose are still, separate companies.
do you really think the worlds largest online retailer will go bust over 5000 products?

now bob, lets address that last line....
