TraceyD wasnít being judgemental, I was thinking of all the rescue dogs here that would have loved a caring home and owner as you obviously are.

Any dog rescued is good by me. All our dogs have been rescues too. The conditions some dogs have to suffer in other countries are horrendous and the rescue centre I volunteer for sometimes spends thousands bringing them back to health before re-homing them.

That dog looks fine and healthy Tracey, hope she enjoys a long and happy life with you.

Thank you. Pinto is in a very good shelter - Last Chance Romania - being well cared for until she can travel. Shes one of the lucky ones.

We applied for a dog here first and missed out. Not many young dogs available in rescue in my area and many come with restrictions if you work, even be it part-time. Being stuck at home for at least 12 weeks I felt now would be a good time to do something to help. Sadly in the meantime, borders have closed so the dogs will have to wait to travel. I am hoping to retire in the next 5 years and my plan is to get a second dog, company for each other. That dog may well come from a local rescue, as all my others have, it depends on circumstances at that time. Believe me, if had the space I'd do more!

We have had 8 UK rescue dogs over the last 40 years and spent several months looking for another one after we lost our last girl in September. Although now both retired, we have visiting grandchildren (aged 3 to 9) and our sonís dog sometimes stays over, so finding a U.K. rescue dog that was child and other dog friendly was (while we were looking) an impossible task, despite being registered with several rescue centres up to a hundred miles away. For this reason (and initially reluctantly) we started looking at rescue dogs from Romania, as these charities seem to be more flexible in their approach to potential adopters, assessing each case on its individual merits. There are also many, many dogs of all ages and sizes looking for homes. We were approved as adopters after a thorough home-check and an in-depth discussion about dog related issues. Then 2 weeks ago, just before the lockdown, we visited, adopted and returned home with Elsa, who had come from Romania and been in foster care in the U.K. for about a month. She has an amazing temperament and is a perfect match for us, and has filled a huge dog-shaped gap in our lives. In addition, the more you discover about the desperate conditions in the dog shelters and on the streets in Romania and the often appalling way dogs are often treated, the more you want to help these dogs find a safe, caring home.
Adopting a dog from Romania has worked really well for us, and a dog rescued is a dog rescued, wherever it is from.
Hope itís not too long before the transports start up again, TraceyD, and your gorgeous Pinto can travel to her new home.
P.S. Be warned that adopting Romanian dogs can become addictive - we are currently in the process of adopting a second dog, who will come over once the borders reopen.

Hi Mrs Bonce - yes we did, on the way down and the way back, and are very grateful for the recommendation.
It's a great little site and we enjoyed our brief stays there. Given the circumstances we stayed as self-contained as possible, using our own facilities, paying by bank transfer and just speaking with the friendly and accommodating owners on the phone, but it's certainly one to use again when passing that way.
Great security, large, level hard-standings, quiet, 16 amp electric hook ups, and plenty of well-tended grass areas - very impressed! I must leave a review - if I can find time!
Elsa is doing really well, settling in and learning more every day - she is very food motivated, which helps, though shows no food (or any other) aggression at all. She's had her first run round playing with our son's dog today (we and our son kept our distance but at least the dogs could get together), which was brilliant to see and she loved playing with him. She's now fast asleep - worn out by all that exercise. She's certainly brightened up our days.

Pinto arrived on 9th May and has settled in really well. She's very pretty and very bright, picking up instructions and English words very quickly, she's also a typically mischievous puppy!

We were hoping to take her camping next month but our booked site arent opening their facilities so we have booked a caravan in Stratford-upon-Avon instead.

She is certainly helping to fill the massive hole left by my lovely Bailey - I'm sure he would approve

What lovely canine family! Great pictures too. Sadly since this post was started we have lost our little dog. He did get to 15 though, but he went downhill fast in his last 3 months. He loved coming caravanning with us, and you should have seen him leap about when he got out at a new site. Even last September he was like a puppy when he got out of the car somewhere different.

Enjoy those dogs Tracey, they look really fun!

Best Regards,
Colin

Aww I'm so sorry to hear about your dog Colin. Our Bailey was the same, went downhill very quickly, all in a matter of a few weeks, it is so hard.

Only Pinto is mine, the other two in the background are our granddog, my sons, Pearl and Steve, they are rescues too.

So pleased for you - Pinto looks lovely and very happy and relaxed in her new home and she has hopefully helped to make your family feel complete again after losing your Bailey. Iím sure she will love camping once you get the chance to take her.
Our second Romanian rescue Scruffy arrived on May 19th. Itís taken him a while to come out of his shell and he was very wary of people and things outside at first (he would react to anything he was unsure of by just freezing and not moving till the perceived danger was past) but heís starting to enjoy life now and seems to be trusting us to look out for him and keep him safe. Weíre planning to take Scruffy and Elsa away with us in the caravan in early August so have introduced them to the caravan at home in the drive, including a couple of overnights!
Elsa is on the left and Scruffy on the right.

Best of luck with your first trip out with the puppy.

Would you be returning to Fforest Fields soon? Would love to see some puppy diving into the lake photos!
