The strange thing is my kids were all brought up and schooled after decimalisation so only ever leaned metric systems yet if they want to buy something and the size is given in centimetres they always ask me how big that is so I have to convert it to feet and inches in my head for them to visualise it.

Also how strange we still have miles with speed limits in miles per hour and fuel consumptions in miles per gallon. Never finish a job do they.

I doubt whether miles will change any time soon as most British vehicle speedometers are in MPH and odometers in miles. At least there's one conversion I can remember, 1 gallon is 4.54 litres and 80km is 50 miles.
Still can't visualise sizes in cm or mm though.

When they swapped from gallons to litres I changed the petrol tank on my car to one that holds litres. If they go back to gallons I will have to change the petrol tank again

I started school in 1970 and was taught metric from the start.

Why is it that 51 years later I can still walk a mile to the pub and order a pint of beer?

Remember when we were changed from pounds to Kilograms. Market traders were prosecuted for selling fruit/veg to elderly people who had no idea what a kilo was.
A lot of older people could see no reason to change to a foreign measuring system that they did not understand.

I'm sticking with gallons. My car goes much further on a gallon than it does on a litre.
