BBC says: “The meteor was spotted shortly before 10pm and was visible for around seven seconds. It was captured on doorbell and security cameras in Manchester, Cardiff, Honiton, Bath, Midsomer Norton and Milton Keynes.”
So we didn’t see it, and we don’t have doorbell & security cameras at the house if it had come over us.

Seen in Cambridgeshire and heard in Monmouth apparently. Just as well it broke up in the atmosphere. Back in the 60s there was one that fell in Barwell, Leicestershire, which was seen and heard where we lived in Warwickshire. I was working as a Saturday girl so didn't see or hear it, but Mum did. It was on the local news, one old boy found a bit "and when I picked it up, it were red 'ot!"

If it could be seen in Bath, then it might have been possible to see in my town which is not that far away from Bath.

However, I was not out and about that time of the night to see it.

I`m very pleased to say I saw it at about 9.50pm.
I`ve been lucky enough to see Halleys Comet, the Perseids, ISS, but last nights display easily topped the lot. Saw it through the front window as it caught my eye and at first I thought I saw a shooting star, but it was a good 30-40 times brighter than any shooting star I`ve ever seen. Spectacular, but at 30.000 mph, ever so brief. Would have loved to get it on video but it took us all by surprise.

Someone locally got it on video courtesy of a security camera, think it`s been uploaded to You Tube .....

Presumably that was local news, as I've just watched the main BBC news in this area, and......nothing! I'd been hoping to have seen at least a second or two but it wasn't even mentioned.

Bits may have fallen between Cheltenham and Stow apparently. People told not to go looking for them.

Hale Bopp comet was visible for 18 months, a fixture during 1997. We saw it most clearly when we were staying on Islay, with pitch black skies, layers of stars & no light pollution. It was beautiful, awesome & awe inspiring, a memory that hasn’t faded.
