I am contemplating when to put up the Christmas decorations. I am crazily busy in work at the minute but I have some time today! I think that’s too early though? Maybe next Saturday evening instead.

What does everyone else do?

We are downsizing on the 'decs' this year. Weve always had 2 trees and the accompanying baubles. Ive suggested one is enough - mainly because im sick of doing 2. And we only had 2 because the previous house was twice the size, and it all came with us. But thats 6 years ago now. I'll be giving one lot away once i get it all out of the loft.

We have an artificial tree, but may not even bother with that as we always go away. We decorate the caravan.

We don't really bother with all the palaver round Christmas. I prefer to observe the Solstice and Christmas is just a late Solstice celebration.
Decorations are minimal - a tree in the lounge and some greenery.

Just a tree & a front door wreath for us too, both real. The days of houses being lit up overall like Disneyland have gone, given electricity costs.
When I lived in Canada in the early 60s, there was a lovely event after Twelfth Night called “the burning of the green”. Everyone brought their (real) tree & there was a big bonfire, a very social event, I remember being hot by the bonfire while standing in deep snow. No one considered the pollution in those days.

We don't put out tree up until mid December and this year we might not bother. My daughter has a kitten which is growing quickly into a mischievous huntress. I doubt the baubles will survive.
We do put a wreath on the front door. Round our way the usual houses already have their lights up and plastic Chinese tat in the front gardens. It isn't even advent yet.

We never bother with anything until the week before Christmas anyway, but of late we have downsized considerably from what we used to do when the kids were at home. There has only been the two of us at home for a good many years now and we all tend to congregate at our oldest daughter's place on Christmas day. We have hired a small hall for boxing day this year as previously the whole family used to come to us, but there are too many of them now as our house is quite small. The hall will be already decorated so we won't have to bother with that.

Best Regards,

Bah Humbug! Over my dead body! - don't 'do' Xmas, and make every effort to avoid everything to do with it! ..... bar Xmas pud, Xmas cake, Mince pies and other seasonal treats which I'm rather partial to.

Why would I celebrate a religious festival I have no interest in, and the commercialisation of it borders on the obscene! I don't do ANY religious celebration, might have a leaning towards the Winter Solstice if any interest in the period at all, and as to 'indulging' the kiddies in the family, they are horrible obnoxious brats that I strive to avoid at any time of year!

Bah Humbug to you all!

1st week in December.
Probably not as much as previous years as I'm informed by SWMBO we're not having as many outside lights (phew) but need some up as the Grandkids are coming for a visit.

We have a tree with lights because this time of year marks the depth of the dark of winter, and celebrates the return of light. If you live here in the north, where it’s dark from 10-3 in winter, the turning of the year is important. Just a few hours drive south, and this winter darkness isn’t an issue.
But hey, there’s no right or wrong! Just what’s right for each of us.

The 1st December is the initial opening of the advent calendar so I consider that's the time to start thinking about putting up the Christmas lights and tree. Anything before that date I think is too early. Most people will do it mainly for their children and grandchildren anyway which is what the magic of Christmas is really all about.

Well said Tango55. We normally go away in the caravan for Xmas and the New Year but this year will not be able to do so. As grandchildren will be our visitors throughout the next many weeks the outside lights are up and on from this week. Indoor decorations happening this week with kids help. All the lights are LED so not worried about the cost of many, many lights. After all their faces lit up is worth everything this year. Have a great Xmas all
