The Practical Caravan Mag gives the Honda a great write up in every way but fuel consumption (poor) and price.
Why not look at a Kia Sedona 2.2 CRDI 2012 IF NOT BUYING NEW
6 speed box average mag test 42.9mpg.
as Hyundai and Kia are same company there will be a lot of similarties as old faithful but a more comfy long drive, but stay away from the 2.7 CRDI
Bigger carrying pace than TERRICAN

Does any member tow a caravan with similar weight/ spec with a CRV? Any comments about the Hondas performance /capabilities would be much appreciated.
we have a 2014 CRV sr d-tec and until recently towed a 1500kg Lunar with absolutely no issues returning 27mpg
our previous 2009 CRV ex cdti also towed the same van easily but would only return 23mpg.
Solo our 2014 model returned 46 mpg on a long run down to Benidorm at a constant 75mph brimming the tank at the start and end of the journey

I have the new Honda CR-V 2.2 I-DTEC EX manual, and it tows brilliantly. Averages 42 mpg on the urban cycle, and 52 mpg on long journeys. Towing I get between 28 and 32 mpg, depending on the roads. On motorways that are fairly level and no traffic issues, easily get 32 mpg.

My CRV 2.2 cdti on a journey to France can return 32 mpg towing my Lunar and solo as much as 53 mpg.
I have found after much experimenting that I return a better mpg using cruise control than without. Please don't tell me the CC advise against towing on cruise - I have been made aware of that.
General running in a mix of road/town/rural/ traffic conditions I return on average 42.
I in all above figures on roads above 30 mph limits I tend to drive a few mph below the limit for economy. Hope that helps. It's by far the best tow car I have owned.

I have a 2.2 manual diesel of 2009 vintage and it tows our van, with a similar weight to yours like a dream, and it's more stable than the Accord Tourer it replaced.
Have you tried inserting your details into the Caravan Club 'Match your car & caravan' link?

As another poster has pointed out for 2015 the CRV will go to an all new "Earth Dreams" 1.6 diesel. Honda claim 2hp more and the same torque as the current 2.2, and yes with the new auto should be anexcellent chice for easy towing. PS on the local council my 09 Crv weighted 1750kg with towbar fitted and 1/2 tank of fuel.
But will it tow your outfit. I think the current 1.6 has a much lower towing capability.
Don't know what's happened to the Loch Ness Monster. Has it submerged again?

I am very pleased with the performance of our 2.2 both solo and for towing. I feel confident that whatever situations and road conditions we come across whilst towing, strong headwinds, awkward steep hill starts, long uphill motorway gradients ect, the power will be there to cope effortlesly even with a fully loaded caravan in tow. We currently tow around 1300kg, but would be confident to tow one around 1500kg if the need ever arose. Its nice to have the option, where as if we were to go down the 1.6 route, even with the promises of the new models capabilities power wise, that option may have been taken away somewhat, and indeed could turn out to be an expensive mistake.
