Mike when was the last time you saw snow ??

Last week, but serious snow three weeks ago, only 4x4s could get anywhere and were used to ferry staff to our major hospitals here in Devon

I meant snow that needed a 4x4 to get around......probably never.

Bessie

Now that I find very offensive, how dare you patronise me because where I live.

Do you not think we ever get snow down here. Just 3 weeks ago we had the heaviest snowfall in England for many years. Devon was under meters of snow, and where I live on Dartmoor was completely shut off.

Just because I don’t live north of Birmingham, does not mean we do not get extreme weather. In fact living near high ground and the coast means we get far worse weather than you do.

Trust me, even a Northener would have needed a 4x4............Bloody townies, you have no idea..............Sorry but that stupid comment has annoyed me.

Wobblybox the very 1 post says that a new ev car is being launched with the ability to tow, the poster even said probably not big enough for a caravan. It also says the predicted sale price is around 35 k.
Now as with all new cars they eventually become affordable for everyone, all 30 40 50k cars eventually end up being 5k.

I’m currently sat in my caravan on a cc site surrounded by new range rovers and discovery’s out of the 10 vans on this section 6 are land / range rovers and 1 Mitsubishi phev towing a swift challenger 580 currently on charge, My car is probably the cheapest on the row. It would appear the caravaners around me have quite a lot of cash

And yes your right Apple is a product that has a lot of hype but it is very good and the top of its game, it also has a lot of cheaper alternatives
Hopefully Tesla will have a lot of cheaper alternatives that suits everyone’s pockets

Mike correct me if I’m wrong but you are always bragging about how tropical your climate is, I’m sure you referred to having put long trousers on.

Off course I do............It is called a sense of humour.

But of course you believe it, that is why thousands flock here for their holidays every year.

I have a confession to make.............Devon is currently the wettest county in England, and yes I have been to Lancashire and it is stunning, I like the wildness just like Dartmoor.

New car sales figures excluding EV's for March were quite interesting if not alarming, as March is a New Plate change month so sales are usually up, not down.

Overall new car sales in March were down by 16%, but Diesels, oh dear were down by 37% !!

And EV's oh yes up by 6%

I think we can glean a trend from those numbers, new car sales have a direct correlation to used car sales in the long term, as new cars eventually turn into used cars.

If all goes according to plan, and when my company car driving days are over, I can see me picking up the keys to a used Tesla Model 3, that has just come of lease, so will be around 3 years old with less than 30k miles on it, although it won't really come with a key, as it has a plastic NFC card thingy instead.

Anyway, I will have to wait until around 2030 to see that plan to fruition!

I hope to be still around in 2030, but if I am I may not still be driving, who knows. If I am I very much doubt whether I will driving an EV, unless it's a mobility scooter. I doubt whether any of my descendents will either. I can still see petrol & diesel cars being around in 2040 and probably well beyond. I will be pleasantly surprised if batteries will last long enough to power cars for more than 8 years before having lost much of their capacity.

If my experience with battery powered tools is anything to go by, a car that will do 250 miles on a charge when new, will probably do no more than 100 miles after 2 years, and will barely make it to the end of the road after 5 years. If there are no fossil fuel cars on the road in 2050, those on low incomes will probably have to give up driving.

You can’t really make any analysis based on a single month. Whilst there is no doubt sales are struggling comparing in this way is daily mail type scare mongering. The figures are correct but what they fail to show is March 17 was an exceptional month as customers bought ahead of RFL changes. This in itself shows the average drivers lack of interest in so called green cars as they bought more polluting cars earlier just to avoid the impending tax increases. Only real driver is cost.

And as for seeing a Tesla 3 towing has anyone seen one at all??

Pure electric car sales are down 16% year to date, the rise in sales in the ev sector are due to plug in hybrid cars which has been driven by the BIK savings.

Yep, but I never let the truth get in the way of a good story!

You You Xue is bringing his U.S. Model 3 over to the UK next month, problem is that it is not compatible with the SuperChargers here in the UK and Europe, so the closest he can get to Fast Charging is to use a Chademo charging station, with Tesla adapter, not the best scenario it has to be said.

Also not sure if the car comes with rear Fog light, a legal requirement for uk, and the colour of the rear indicators may not be UK legal either.

Tesla have advised You You Xue not to bring his car over to Europe, but I don't think he has paid any notice to that advice.

All interesting stuff.

The Tesla 3 model should be here sometime during 2018, and I think it is going to be a real game changer in the EV market.

Any update on the T3 in the UK?

Unlikely to be this year.

And i think the trip Francais mentions had an accident so wont be touring anytime soon.

Not comprehensive insured, full coverage i think they call it?

Veered off into the barrier? Tesla again spouting its a driver aid. So why is not screaming alarms and slowing/stopping somewhere safe when the driver fails to keep control?

Still having quality control issues it seems, some cars need resprays because of colour differences across panels. Mainly bumpers.

Still no towing option for the Model 3? With the battery pack position and size will it get a UK legal towbar installed?
Just think where that towbar will go if someone crashes into the towbar, crush or puncture the battery?

-------------
Post 1997 licence holder?

Max tow weight = Cars gross laden weight + Caravans gross laden weight.

These 2 figures must not exceed 3500kg. And the Caravans gross laden weight must not exceed the cars UNLADEN weight.

Unless the manufacturer has set a lower limit.

We will all have to be patient.

In addition to the quality and production issues, it would appear the right hand drive version is not even close to production yet.

So much for “sometime in 2018”
