Yep, well all Tesla’s are OK for towing especially the Model X, the only one that is not, is the original Roadstar, although that was a very limited production run, back at the start.

Most electric cars have a fairly low limit around 750kg.
You won't get on most charge points with a trailer as they are not long enough!
I did see a Tesla in Chester with a towbar.

Yep 664DaveS, as most Tesla’s are fine for towing they are putting in trailer friendly charging stalls, check out Bjorn Nyland latest youtube video featuring a recently opened service station in Norway.

It is quite likely I have seen more but not noticed but I've only really noticed just a few. I do tend to look at cars though and try to identify them, especially when I am walking around or in car parks.

In theory an electric car should be good for towing as an electric motor produces maximum torque at virtually any revs. Even from zero. But it's more about what is officially rated to tow, and how much it would reduce the range. Towing a caravan is like dragging a big sail behind you, the wind drag is quite significant, it isn't simply about the weight. The faster you go, the more significant that wind drag is.

Aluminium bodies are far from new though. I remember the Rover 2000 back in the 1960s had quite a few aluminium panels, and my very first vehicle, a 1954 Reliant Regal, had a body built entirely from aluminium. I'm sure there were many others too.

Yep Colin, I am not sure what type of aluminium Tesla are using for the body panels, but the aluminium alloy that is being used for the sub chassis is quite special, in fact Sandy Munro could not determine the composition of the alloy, so that is in the lab and they are trying to work out what it actually is, the likes of which have never been seen before.

Well worth a watch is the Sandy Munro teardown of the a Tesla Model Y, a fair number of episodes, but it really gives you an insight into the auto industry and how Tesla almost singlehandedly are disrupting it.

One of the Jaguar XJ range had an aluminium body.
Landie Series models and Defender bodywork had a lot of aluminium alloy called Birmabright. Chassis and bulkhead steel.
Current Range Rover Sport and full size went to Aluminium saving around half a tonne. I am not sure if the Discovery 5 is the same, maybe new Defender too.

Tesla “Battery investment day” is now scheduled for 15th Sept, apart from the million mile battery to be announced, it is rumoured a 205kwh hour battery will be unveiled so 600+ mile range, and also a sub $25,000 Tesla compact car to take on the VW iD3 Golf size market.

I have been looking at some car tests online as I get some freebies. Volvo have brought out a BEV under the Polestar brand.
The testers say its a very good alternative to the Tesla. Not cheap but its a premium car. Looks very nice.
Also looked at the electric Mini, it costs about the same as the Cooper S with similar performance!
More than the basic petrol Cooper of course.
Range about 190 miles but they market it more as a town car.
Might change my Cooper convertible for one when pcp is up.

Aparantly a british company is looking to build a Gigafactory for batteries, one of preferred sites is former RAF base at St Athan, where Aston Martin have a plant.
Been to the base a few times in my RAF time. It used to be major sevicing unit for a variety of aircraft from Harrier to VC 10.
