CoronaVirus Update

We know many of you will be disappointed that you are unable to go camping or caravanning at this time or for some weeks, but we'd like to say that our campsites will still be here in the months to come and ready to welcome you in good health when the time is right.

If you have extra time on your hands, you can still research and explore a huge range of sites for holidays in the coming months. Our normal comprehensive campsite searches are of course still available, and sites will welcome enquiries for bookings later in the year when hopefully we're on our way back to normal.

You can also all do your bit to help every campsite come out of this stronger by making sure you leave a review of your visits from last year or before on their listings - so whilst you are unable to visit a campsite right now, you can of course relive and share your memories from previous trips. We know you won't need much encouragement, but don't forget you could also win 150 just for doing it.

We'd also like to reassure our campsite owners - who together represent a vital economic driver for so many places - that we are continuing to work to ensure that you have access to all the information there is to assist you at this difficult time.

Remember you can stay up to date on developments or just cheer yourself up with some chat about your favourite type of holiday, your gear and equipment etc by visiting our message forums. If you need some further distraction take a look our competitions and win yourself a fab prize.

Thank you all for reading, and stay safe

Sadly here in Cornwall people came to 'isolate' and some campsites were open. Now all the sites are closed there are motorhomes parked on roads, cliffs etc. It is a big issue here and local people are not happy about it.

I'm not at all surprised. Maybe the police will get involved and send them all home. I hope so anyway.

On the other hand, for some of those people maybe their motorhomes ARE their homes, and I wonder what they are supposed to do. Difficult situation all round.

Glad to see that the government have seen sense over sites being allowed to allow full timers to stay, possibly too late though for some that had already been made to leave

27.3.2020 Here in North and Mid Wales. the police are now stopping all incoming camper van and Touring vans and instructing drivers to turn around return home, Theres no debate on this. its do or be fined on the spot.
Almost if not all sites have actually closed down and local authorities have written to sites telling them to close.
Until this pandemic has run its course, please stay at home as you'll be wasting fuel and journey time.

Not true.
Even if it were, you would not be allowed in and would have no insurance as FO has advised against all but essential travel.

Hello,

First time poster here!

What a useful website.

I have a back packing trip planned for late July in the Pennines and I'm wondering how realistic this is.

Do any site owners think they will still be closed?

Any help appreciated.

Mike

Has anyone else researched and attempted to book ahead to discover that only campers who are self-sufficient with regard to toilet and washing facilities are being catered for? I had a very nice and comprehensive reply to that effect from one site, and I can see why. It's just disappointing.

I phoned the owner of the campsite I use just outside Perranporth, Cornwall today to see if he had any news regarding re-opening. Sadly, he hasn`t and I was hoping something would be in place by the 13th of July when I planned to go down. The toilet/shower block is the main problem as it would be nigh on impossible to maintain social distancing. He has made enquiries about portable showers placed at various locations around the site in an effort to minimise the risk of possible infection but they would not be available until August. The cost would probably be excessive too. Caravaners/Motorhome owners would probably be OK so long as they used their own facilities but campers like me who rely on the site ablutions would face much greater restrictions. Other measures he is considering is greater distance between pitches and the possibly using the centre of the camping fields for tents. The latter being something he`s never done in the 30 years I`ve been going there. It`s all very depressing. He related a story about someone who had gone down to Cornwall quite recently and went into a shop for some supplies. The shopkeeper, not recognising the customer, asked if they were local. When they said "No. We`re down on holiday", the shopkeeper refused to serve them ! I wonder how long it will take to get back to something resembling normality or if we ever will ?

I've been shielding since well before official lockdown and I am desperate to get out now for a night. Obviously I wont be getting out the car and the wife will be driving, she has been locked down with me. It will be a "what are we doing here" situation but I've got to get out now!

I wonder if anyone could suggest a spot in Kent or Surrey where we would be safe and not confused with doggers! We are middle aged and will have a small dog with us. Anything around Blackheath or Greenwich? Bit dodgier in London perhaps.
