....kinda like swearing on this site?17 If not, is it worth trying to become a member? What are the main benefits (what do you as people get out of it, not what the "brochure" says). And how much does it cost....which leads back to the question, is it worth it?

Hi toffee tent, no not swearing and lots of us have different views. Personally I think the yearly £39 is worth it to use their Certified sites, which only take a few vans and tents. I also find the monthly magazine a good read for hints and tips. Been to lots of their sites and they're always good, tho some are a little formal for our liking. Each to their own tho - hope this helps

We cancelled our membership, simply because work meant we can't camp very often, so we didn't feel we were getting our moneys worth.

If I was free to camp more often then I'd join, as it would pay for itself.   I think it's down to you and your camping habits.

We've been in the C&CC for 3 years since we returned to camping with a tent, after having been members for a few years in the 80's. We've just had our renewal notice for year 4 but won't be renewing as we have now changed to a trailer tent and have joined the Caravan Club.

We enjoyed our time with the C&CC and had the advantage of the over 55's rates, which worked out about 30% cheaper than normal members' rates. We do, however, think that the quality of the CC sites, particularly the toilets and showers, is worth paying a bit extra.

You can have a look on their website to find prices etc. as a non-member. I'd recommend joining for a year to see if it's for you.

Not swearing at all - some do swear by it. We do not and left as we didn't see any value for us. We found the sites expensive and regimented.

I agree with swany and love the CS sites (certified sites). They are generally small sites (max 5 caravans and 5/10 tents) as they are run by landowners and families. Facilities can vary dramatically from just a field and nothing else to full facilities including toilets, showers and eclectic hook up. They are generally quite cheap with pitch only prices from £10-£15 night. You can find some real gems and itís part of the fun of trying them.

They will not appeal to everyone and if you are expecting to find a clubhouse and pool they definitely wonít be for you. Although you could find a local family friendly pub and the owners may have a private pool you could use!

If you think a CS site might appeal to you, my top tip is to search for a local CS site close to you and go and have a look. Generally the site owners are really friendly and Iím sure they wonít mind you having a look around; after all you could be future customers! At least this way you can gauge if it is the sort of site you are willing to try. You can search for local CS sites close to you by using the C&CC website just make sure you tick only CS (certified sites) on the search. Also add showers and toilets on the facilities list

If the above sounds like camping hell then the C&CC sites are generally really nice with good clean facilities.

I really like their sites too, so for me it pays for itself because of the discounted rates (even without my 55+ discount!).

I camped at a "club site" last weekend and paid £17.90 total for 2 nights, me the brat and the dog, can't say that's expensive.......

We do tend to use the C&CC out of season but even in high season they are not as expensive as some other sites we have or are going to stay on, I fully intend to renew my membership and have made a point to use the C&CC sites more next year.

We joined this year and so far have only used 1 site (some of that down to the weather). A lot of it is down to there never seeming to be a site near where we want to go or the CS's having poor reviews for people in tents.

Hoping to get some more trips in during the 'summer' though so you never know.

I have been a member since I started to go camping on my own in 2009, and definitely money well-spent.

With their Club sites, I know the facilities will be very clean, and there will be a warden on site 24/7 for a peace of mind. The latter is particularly important for a lone camper with just a dog in tow.

We had membership for 2 years but never found a site with space when we wanted to go. Not members any more. We do miss having the magazine though. We would save them up to read when we were on hols.

CSs for us.

Peace and quiet, often the only tent and sometimes the only residents!

We love it! I have to talk to people for a living so getting away is what it is all about!

A good pub within walking distance is a definite plus though.

Its the meets for us.  This weekend its a field meet so no faciltiies but at £5 per night we can manage just fine with our caravan shower/toilet.  Tenters come along too - all they need is a toilet tent for the necessary. During the colder months we tend to meet at commercial sites but pay less than the standard site fees.  Sometimes there's a social event or games for the kids organised but you join in or do your own thing. We've never been to a club site but used a particular CS often before it closed.

I like their sites. I like their facilities. I like how clean the sites are and I like their prices. Just over £10 a night camping inc EHU for me and the lass during the school summer holidays can't be called expensive (that's all we paid at Moffat last week). I like that you pay per person rather than per unit. I like that there are always some one on site. I like the CSs. For me it works out grand.
