I've clearly gone wrong with my kids. Every time I take them into Go (Edinburgh branch)they run around screaming "Look at this Mum! Trangia gas kit Mum! Only £105 Mum!" and trying to make me buy them new and ever more expensive hiking boots and thermals. I long for the days when they could amuse themselves by hiding in the smallest (but most expensive) tent they could find on display and waiting for me to track them down. Once my DS actually fell asleep on a Thermorest...which he then tried to make me buy for him. Clearly we grow a better class of entitled youff over here in the east.

Personally I believe we need to bring back good old fashioned medieval justice. Throw the whole family including relations, close friends and neighbours into a river. If they survive burn them as witches, if they drown….. guilty.

Seems fair…?

Works for me. I'm to the right of Attila the Hun in these matters.

Mike I’ve been busy trying to defend a lawsuit for deformation of character.

My only comment is look at the location….Glasgow (apologise if I’ve offended any Glaswegians). I’m not shocked. If it had been a store in any other part of the UK I would have been horrified.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Lewisham has been found to be the most violent place to live in Europe. Seriously, I think they need to spend a Saturday night in Glasgow…

But it's not in Glasgow! It's in Coatbridge. completely different council area!
If Glasgow was so bad we wouldn't have all the shops desperate to come here making us the 2nd biggest retail centre outside London.

Glasgow is no worse than any other big cities with its areas of poverty and wealth. I guess in London they'd have just shot bullet holes through the tents? Would be just the same media stereotype. Not offended just setting the record straight. I have no idea where you have got your ideas about Glasgow from

I had noticed that Go at Coatbridge Had stopped putting tents outside...But I thought It had something to do with the weather....Last year nearly all the display tents were in a bad way towards the end of the summer...Suppose it makes sense to Pitch them inside where staff can keep an eye on them if stuff like the penknife incident is going on...

Glaswegian born and bred here...And have my wee pet theory that the whole of the central belt of Scotland is turning into one vast ghetto...With a few enclaves of normality and sensibility dotted about(Not many but they are there) That's why I use camping and fishing to get out of it as much as possible...

Yes Glaswegians are a hard people.. Bourne out of a sometimes harsh existence..We call a spade a spade...If we don't like you we tell you so...Live with it....But if we do take to you...You will never find a truer..loyal and more generous friend anywhere in this sainted Island...

Just my side of things....

Jelboy.

Sorry near Glasgow..... but close enough to capture the Glaswegian crowd.

I've been to Glasgow many times visiting relatives and working. My parents originated from the Gorbals so have family in the south bank (if they are not in prison already). I know people get passionate about where they live. Glasgow is full of interesting and beautiful things, just don't go on a Saturday night.

Living in Lewisham I understand all about negative stereotypes (some of it is true). I personally think it's not bad, well connected and some nice green spaces nearby like Blackheath and Greenwich park. One other bonus and the main reason I've ended up here is because it's cheap.

I hope I haven't offended anyone from Glasgow and just to balance the comment I think Manchester could be just as bad or even worse. Actually Liverpool is not that great either, come to think of it Hull is probably the worst....no hang on Birmingham.

Blast I'm just digging myself further in a hole, which is where no doubt several people would like to stick me.

at mcguire - i travel lots with my work and this year have been to london every month, with 4 visits to manchester, 1 to birmingham and 1 to liverpool.

i only get to see some parts of those cities - probably the touristy and perhaps nicer parts.

i loved them all. london because of the lovely covent garden, the grungy camden market, the lights and billboards of the theatre district, the history and the buildings.

manchesters ease of getting around on the tram, the northern and green quarters, trendy but with an edge of the hard past, such ease of shopping and the huge Primark lol

birmingham city centre could do with a lick of paint but the main shopping area is nice.

i was amazed at liverpool, so clean and modern.

but like i say, i didnt see the council estates of these cities and im sure like glasgow they are just as rough countrywide albeit with some good people who get trapped in amongst the not so good ones.

i have to say i feel fairly safe going out in glasgow on a saturday night if iv had a few drinks - i think their bark is worse than their bite really - they just get loud and with the coarse scottish / glasgow accents - it sounds a bit angry rottweiler-ish but if you chat with them and they like you, they will wag their tails and lick you!

Don't worry I love them all really (including Glasgow). I too have been fortunate in visiting many cities in the UK, Europe and America whilst Tour Managing bands. As with any town, city or even village sometimes you get good and not so good areas. Generally I've found most to be ok....accept in America when you run a high risk of being shot (higher than London).

I'm sure some people would like to shoot me....

We like our Premier Inn £29 jobbies for city week-ends. Liverpool we love. Birmingham too. Manchester is crap.

Actually I really like Manchester, I've spent several months on and off working there. Mind you then again in comparison to Lewisham everywhere is nice....

Do they have a Lidle`s or Aldi`s in these places. Down here they seem to put them stores in shall we say less friendly areas when they 1st arrived here.Don't get me wrong we use these stores. But I always try to make sure I wear my vest, jogging bottoms and trainers when shopping there so as to blend in. I do draw the line when it comes to buying 2 litre bottles of cheap cider thou.

Wow Geoff you must have the posh ones. We have to wear bullet proof vests...though to be fair this is the normal body attire for SE London.

I work for the local Constabulary around Coatbridge. Main problem for that particular Go is that it is situated within walking distance of some socially excluded and deprived areas.

Big tents coupled with branded sports gear make it a magnet for stray urchins.......and stray fingers!

can't believe some of the posts on this thread regarding Glasgow people...and I certainly wouldn't agree that the whole of the central belt is turning into a ghetto, there are more good, infact realy good area's than there are bad....but even in those so called "bad " area's there are some great people who take pride in their homes and keep them lovely and whose kids are a credit to them and have never been in trouble....

You can find trouble anywhere if you are unfortunate.

Somebody on a night out in Lincoln on Saturday night ended up with a claw hammer embedded in his skull.
