My preferred way is to tie a figure of eight loop in the end of the guy. Pass the loop though the attachment point then thread the guy through it's own loop.

Actually I tie mine on as you described although I can't see why you would want to take the guy rope off unless it was broken or worn anyway.

Whilst we are on the subject, if you buy a new tent with the guy ropes attached make sure you check them because they don't always tie them on too well.

Sex is something posh people keep their spuds in.
