I am hoping that this message will help Avondale (perhaps others) Owners and bring to their attention something that has happened to me Not Once but Twice.
My 2005 Avondale Dart 510/L has had both of its road wheel Tyre valves blow within the past 3 months. Luckily for me it was whilst my van was parked up alongside my home.
The valve stems had cracked around the circumference of the valve hole and it split through to the inlet hole.
Both times it happened I took it to a local tyre dealer who replaced them and he has said that they looked like they were badly manufactured. I urge all Avondale owners to replace their tyre valves as soon as possible as there are serious safety concerns.
Hope this helps

Maybe avondale fitted a certain brand of tyre valves possibly a bad batch on a certain year, which other manufacturers might not have. I think the post urges people to have their tyres/valves checked, especially if it is an isolotad case within a certain model/make of carvan.

I think because the OP was referring to his Avondale so has no knowledge of other vans with the same fault.
As said get all tyres and valves checked regularly on all caravans. It is afterall the only thing between the caravan and the road!

I have had this problem in the past although not with my Avondale it was with an Elddis not that this means they were at fault. Some tyre vales are prone to perish (cheap imported crapp) with certain types of lube used to install them although this does not affect the tyre? dont ask me why. Now when I change tyres on my car, caravan or my motorbike I use a bit of the good old natural spit to help the valves into place and never had a one leak since

Surly this a chassis problem like al-ko or whoever made the chassis, these tyres would be fitted before avondale had even seen the wheels or tyres.they are delivered with wheels on,avondale only built the body.happened to me once on the car at 60mph on the motorway and the tyre was down in two seconds.never found the valve.rear tyre luckily.

Spooky.
I had this problem a few years ago whilst at stowford.
Avondale Grampian 1991.
Replaced wheels and tyres when i got back. Carried 2 spares, Took one out a few weeks back & as i moved it today i spotted the valve on that was cracking.
Told my mate to check his today.
How many people check the tyres but overlook the valves?

I havce amended the heading of this thread accordingly, as this can relate to all caravan tyres. Of course it could extend to trailer tents, trailers etc.

I have just had one of my tyres go like this on my drive - cracked all round the tyre stem. My make of tyre was GT maxmiler and they came new with the van about 2 1/2 years ago. I would be interested in knowing the tyre make of other peoples failed tyres.
As an aside the tyre fitter says that sometimes with hubcaps the wire ring is fitted the wrong way round and can stress this area of the valve stem, but mine had cracked all the way round.

Some very good points raised here. Regarding ageing tyres/valves, if the wheel is taken to a tyre depot for changing, then I would think the operative would automatically fit a new valve in the same way as for a car tyre. Apart from my own periodic checks, I always check the wheel studs after they have been serviced, both for the car and the van. My torque wrench is also a permanent feature in the tool compartment of my car.
Just a thought concerning tyre valves. If a caravan has its tyres, or a tyre, standing for lengthy times in the sun, I would think that the tyre valve, because of it being attached to a metal rim, could suffer prolonged higher than normal temperatures that could promote premature degrading of the rubber. No personal or actual evidence of this; just a passing thought.
Bertie.

Every time I seen a tyre replaced the way they deflate the old one is by using a puller on the valve to remove it!

Had a blowout a couple of weeks ago. 60mph, but pulled over safely luckily. The tyre was shreded.
Missed the ferry because the spare wheel bolt was rusted solid. I'd had a full service before I left and asked if they could check the spare was accessible. lesson learnt.
Anyway, the van is 2004 and I bought it a year ago, so was unsure of the age of the tyres. No sign of wear. It did have wire rimmed hub caps.
All three tyres now replaced. New valves as standard. Now thinking of removing them during winter storage.
