Our mover stopped working completely last week. We phoned Powrtouch and one of their technicians asked us to do a number of checks. One of them was to disengage the rollers so the van wouldnít move and then watch the panel in the van that displays the battery voltage as we used the handset to make the disengaged rollers move. If the voltage drops right down on the display as you use the rollers, itís a problem with your battery.

I would give Powrtouch a call as their techie guys are really helpful. The number I used was 01283 587900

Hi Paul, I once put a cheap battery -exide for my wifeís freelander , choice was exide or Bosch , 12 months after buying the exide I had to go back and buy the Bosche , we would come back from trips and my wifeís car wouldnít start or need a jump
So my experience is limited to knowing that manufacturers and outlets will sell batteries that are not fit for purpose
I donít know if yuasa is a good brand but thanks for the tip
Iíll look them up
Cheers

You generally get what you pay for with leisure batteries.
Have a look at this link that not only describes the different types but also the class of battery to suit your useage.

https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/caravans/articles/general/all-about-leisure-batteries#:~:text=Leisure%20batteries%20fall%20into%20three%20main%20types%20-,plates%20sit%20in%20a%20bath%20of%20sulphuric%20acid.

The cheaper batteries at Halfords are usually class C - not really suitable for a motor mover.

Thanks crypto, did a bit of research and ive found my Numax LV26mf is a class C - which may explain my problem, not lasting more that 2.5 years. I paid my dealer to fit the movers on a new van so they should have known better, hey ho
I'll get myself a type B ordered up today

George

Think you may find that most Motor Mover manufacturers recommend 100 Ah batteries.

We chose this: https://www.tayna.co.uk/leisure-batteries/yuasa/l36-efb/

After reading this:

"For example, the Yuasa L36-EFB was part of a 'secret' group test, that we saw the results of, that made the outstanding Varta LFD/Bosch L series batteries look the poor relation, the L36-EFB was that good."

Thanks Jim, Im holding back on my order until i speak to pwertouch tomorrow, its good to get other opinions on that. Thanks for the link. They say its impartial but they also advertise Yuasa.
When i was 20 I moved into my first flat, an uncle gave me a used Bosch washing machine that i still had ten years later. ;-) its left me with a German bosch bias.
cheers

One last thing to check before final ordering is the size in all three dimensions and also the orientation of the positive and negative terminals.

Just to make final fitting easy.
My chosen battery had the terminals reversed but I checked that there was enough slack in the wiring to accommodate the re-wiring.

You can buy whichever battery that takes your fancy but look at reviews first and don't just take the caravan clubs word for it.

Jim Oldham has posted a link thats well worth reading on EFB batterys, Alan did a lot of work on our behalf sadly he's no long with us.

Oh and George, my 110ah Exide leisure battery lasted in excess of 11 years on the caravan.

Decisions decisions

No surprise as Exide is by far one of the better battery makers operating in the general duty market place, but all makes can have their odd poor examples, and even the very best can be damaged by abuse.

Many battery "Brands" are just that, brought in from a limited number of makers, some built "down" to the brand holders specification!
Varta, another good maker, making at least some of those "branded" as Bosch.

Very good advice.
