Bathrrom rip out causes showers to be had in van. 2007 van, The water heater on electric, it heats up a little then trips out. I then have to reset it. On gas it works fine. Talked to Truma who say it could be the element or temp sensors. If it were the temp sensors would it not cut out on gas too? If element, is it a reasonable job to rmove.
Advice appreciated. Sorry if this has been raised before but I could not find!

When you say it trips and you reset it, do you mean it trips the RCD? the the special trip in the mains box with circuit breakers or a thermal one?
If it trips the RCD after a while it's likely to be that the element shorts internally to earth due to thermal expansion, a new one will therefore be required but they are very very expensive for what they are, essentially a kettle element.
Testing with specialist equipment like a Megger may well show a fault as it uses a much higher test voltage than a simple multimeter. If you do use a megger, disconnect the element from the rest of the circuit so that you don't fry the delicate components on the PCB.
If it's the thermal cut-out that is tripping, it is likely to be faulty. It could be a local hot spot on the element, that's unlikely but if so, new element too.

Thanks pickled onion. No it does not trip the RCD and the on light stays on. It just stops heating the water so i switch off the mains input and the circuit breakers, leave for a while and switch on and it heats again.....only once! Have looked on utube and there is mention of the NRV being faulty. Wiull check that.
