Well we survived our first trip in our Orchy 600, got the premium extension pitched much better then our test run. We camped here a lovely camp-site if a little cramped.

I've had a little rant in the Life in General thread as the 3 tent that were round us were one party and noisily drunk most of the afternoon and in to the night

My post has been removed for some reason

Hi we have a Orchy 500 and a Beta 350.

We use the Beta for festival and over night camping but the Orchy for longer camping trips with my sons.  My partner was concerned about gettting a "big tent" due to it being cold etc but we have loved it. Gives you the space you need for all those bits and bobs you take camping and the bedrooms are a great size, although I would not like to get 5 people in the bedroom, think it would be a bit snug.

Had it out twice since buying it in May both times in the Lake District and it has performed great, throw rain, winds and some sun.

Me and my partner are going camping by ourselves at August Bank Holiday in the lake district and will be taking the Orchy, will so be trying out the new premium extension we have recently bought. Will try and remember to take photo's and upload them onto the forum.  Has anyone tried to pitch the extension on the side of the orchy?

Happy Camping Everyone

Hi lucylou and welcome to the forum and the OAS thread

We'd love to see some photos for you Orchy I've not tried to put the premium extension on the side door yet but there is a photo of some ones Orchy with the extension on the side door here its the 27th pic along

We go on the 31st for a week in Lincolnshire can't wait, neither can our 5 year old son, we have the Orchy 600 but wouldn't like to spent a night with 6 sleeping in it, just right for the 3 of us..

Just had the Orchy 600 out for the first time, together with the extension and I have to say I was very impressed. I had four days at Silverdale at the end of Morecambe Bay where we had intermittent torrential showers and inevitably an almost constant wind. The Orchy stood up extremely well. I think the design is superb but, then I started my camping with heavy canvas and rubber groundsheets.

I saw someone else had posted here this same question. How the hell do you get it back in the bag again. We just bundled it up in the car.

I had the clever idea of storing it in a large 80 litre plastic box I got from Wilkinsons. I couldn't even get it in that.

It will go back in the bag! we fold ours on the footprint so its just a bit smaller than the bag then we roll to towards the front door so all the air can escape and hey presto it fits, we even get the poles back in the bag( well we did last time!)

We do keep all our peg's in a separate bag though to keep the tent bag clean...

Roll on the 31st as we're off to stay at the West End Farm for 4 night can't wait...

I have another request for your experience. While dismantling the tent in a wind, the elastic in one of the poles parted. In fact I think it parted at the point where it was fixed in at the end section. You can't see any elastic when you look down the bore.

Does anyone have any suggestions for reconnecting the elastic at the end where it parted. I have a couple of ideas floating around in my head but would welcome any suggestions from people who may already have effected a workable solution.

In Halfords for about a fiver there's a shock cord repair kit, which has got a long wire in it for feeding the shock cord through. It's got plenty of shock cord too and it's always advisable to keep the unused shock cord for other repairs.

Hi guys. Can I join?

Just bought our first tent after years with a van and then half a decade flying abroad!

There's now just me and 2 teenage boys (and a fairly tight budget) so after hours spent online and browsing around our local stores I have just taken delivery of the Orchy 500 with footprint and carpet for the princey sum of 183. My eldest plans to sleep outside in his own small tent so we're hoping there'll be plenty of room. Might invest in the extension for spring.

Not sure when we'll make our first trip, going to have a try out in the garden. The lads are seasoned scout campers so hoping we'll get it up ok. Looking forward to weekend trips away with pals and getting the lads back outdoors.

I feel like a kid at Christmas

The extension is very good, I have an Orchy 500 with it - the only gripe is that the guy line crosses the side door, which I tend to use quite frequently, I found if you're not expecting a hurricaine (which if you were, you probably wouldnt be camping in the Orchy!), then the side guy can be looped through the pole on the side of the roof and pulled down so it only cuts off the very top of the doorway.

Michelle you've posted in the thread so your in    welcome to the gang of Orchy lovers .

As crayfish has said the only downside with the premium extension is the guy line crosses the side door but if its not really windy then you don't have to peg it over the door you can tie it up till you need to guy it out say the wind picks up. We managed fine with it pegged out the other week though..

Just got the king poles and a 4 pole Vango windbreak for our 4 night trip to Lincolnshire next week..

Happy Camping Orchy Peeps

Hi,

after reading comments on the Premium Extension. It seems like most are trying to pitch it WITHOUT the gaps at the side.

Vango say it must have those gaps ! (Don't ask me why) But this is how it was designed.

If you go on to YOU TUBE you will see a video on how to pitch it correctly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dhiZwSZRhE

When pitched this way the guylines do not cross the side door.(they run paralell with the porch pole.)

If you don't like the gap, then why not try and fold back the elasticated section and envelope it back to the origional position.

Hope this helps.

Andy.

Hi managed to pitch the Orchy and Extension in Langdale at the weekend, tried a snug fit and took a couple of pictures which I will post at some point. The extension was a god send on Saturday when it rained for most of the day, we had somewhere to cook and leave our wet boots/walking gear.

I did ask the shop where we bought the extension from whether it could be pitched on the side door but they stated that it was made for the front.  Also they said they had sold out and would not be getting any more in and I have noticed that a lot of the shops have sold out of the extension.  Was wonder whether this means that Vango are bringing out a new extension for next year?

Hey guys we're just back from 4 nights in Lincolnshire (Tuesday till Saturday), we had great weather just a little shower of rain Thursday night. Took some pic's with my phone.

Thanks for the info redwatch, I've seen that vid but I like to make the gaps smaller but I guess if the weathers bad and your having to cook in there then pitching like Vango say would get shut of the cooking smells quicker...
