OK just caught up with some of the more recent posts now I've calmed down a bit.

In Devon we did experience some high winds and the bending poles. There were times when we thought 'this is going to be it - it's finally going to snap on us' but the tent made it. We just kept checking the guy ropes and repositioning them to try and oppose the wind as somebody mentioned above. It was the front of the tent which was taking the force of the wind that concerned us. We took the canopy down because it kept slipping off the tent and I didn't want it to rub against the tent and fray it like what happened with our first Orchy. I did get some foam pipe insulator though which fits over the front poles to protect the fabric and it did work.

We did suffer a splintered pole though on the canopy. Only discovered it when putting it away and it had been standing even with a broken pole. Through my fabulous mum and dad we got it fixed for free. So, another lesson learned, as soon as the wind picks up canopy comes DOWN!

Got a lovely new windbreak from Father Christmas too, so can't wait to try that out and see if it helps resist those nasty gusts!

I'm afraid I have been bad - I have let myself be tempted away by the new 2011 Vango Tigris 800 and extension. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Orchy & bits being sold to someone in my car club, so will still be able to admire it from afar.

Bleeming heck fancy finding you here! And even more spooky I have an orchid 600 and should I ever go for a bigger tent I'm always telling folk how much I love the Tigris!

Wow!!! I never knew this thread existed. We have a 2008 Orchy 500 in laurel. Not been pitched yet as when we bought it (unknowing to us at the time) I was 4 weeks pregnant. Glad we bought a small family tent now. We're taking our toddler camping for the first time in June. Cannot wait to pitch it (it's still in the plastic bag it came in!) I bought the carpet, footprint and windbreak at the time we purchased the tent, but have managed to get hold of a new sun canopy in the 2008 colours just last week so am even more excited now!

Glad to find a group as enthusiastic about the Orchy as I am... I just hope we can pitch it easily, as we don't want to look silly pitching at the campsite! (not enough space in our garden to trial pitch before we go!)

We took ours to the park for our test pitch (just a idea) the 600 took my wife and my self 35/40 mins to pitch first off now we have it down to about 15 mins :) 500 should be quicker good luck
