yes as we brought the 210 size but as where told in shop it didnt matter would just give you varying heights but if you want it level and smaller go for 180 but as we got bigger size we can take one pole out and it 180 and also gives us a spare pole or if we want it higher then we have 210 hope this doesnt confuse you it not supposed to i really saying there about 50p in price but it doesnt really matter in my eyes

we tried out our new orchy this weekend and now i not sure on bedroom arrangements as eldest has special needs and we normally leave him in room to go sleep on  own but in tent as all one room he wakes baby up however soemone has suggested putting up bedroom divider until we go to bed then taking it down so he cant see her, where do you put your clothes etc if you nearly fill bedroom with 2 airbeds. also want canopy for it as i do really like it but would take our tent over size of pitches at the site we like adn the standard i can only find in black our tent is laurel and sage 2009 model.

it would be ace if they had made an extension to go on side door or does anyone know of anything that adapts to go on here

Thanks pubgal21,

So to confirm the 210cm kit allows you to "downsize" to 180cm anyway? Sounds like I may as well get the 210cm poles then.

As for the extension I have only seen the large sun canopy fitted to the front of the Orchy, and even that didnt look like it was designed for it.

Another member for the Orchy appreciation society here.

We are still to make our first trip of the year in our new Orchy 600 but I love the way that it looks and the fact that it is easy to put up and take down.

I havent put a tent up in about 20 years and I managed it from the bag in about 40 minutes.  The wife "helped" with the dome and that was about it.

The only test it has had so far is a little garden camping for one night, in fact the more I think about it I might put it back up in the garden this weekend again!!

Welcome to all new members!

Regarding the porch poles, we didn't get Vango ones... We got I think the 2m adjustable ones, because we weren't sure what size to get.

I was thinking that a side extenstion would be a good idea. But because it's a one-zip door and folds away to the side... Now with our old Gelert, both doors had the two parallel zips so you could put porch poles up with both... maybe that might be an idea for a future Orchy design, although I do like the ease of only having to bother with one zip. We use the side door more than the front, especially if we've got teh canopy/porch up at the front...

Anyway, I'm counting the days now! 8 days to go (that's only 6 working days though!) I'm so looking forward to a full week in the Orchy!!!

I have to agree with Chelz, we use the side door a lot more than the front door.

Has anyone got any pictures of the Orchy with the canopy's over the front door? Can anyone comment on how they fit?

I am tempted to put a large Vango windbreak around the front door and use the kind pole set to create some cover as alternative.

Wippah let me know how you go i said to my hubby about cutting some tarp to size and having porch up with poles then attaching the tarp with velcro as and when you want to use it as extra shelter or just keep it up and buy extra groundsheet to put on floor as then you could roll sides up if needed or detach when want to and then can use it to cook in ??????????????????????? and as a storage area

would this work???????????????????????????

i really want canopy but where we are going on hol is only 8 by 6 m pitches and tent with canopy wouldnt fit on pitch so we trying to come up with other ideas??????????????????

Well now I've figured out how to put pics in a post here you go!

DSC00185.jpg picture by Chelz77

DSC00186.jpg picture by Chelz77

DSC00187.jpg picture by Chelz77

That's the standard canopy. pubgal21 - it's not that big, just enough for a bit of cover so you might be OK with your pitch size.

It was our first time pitching the canopy, so we kind of winged it. OH tied the rear guyropes to the poles of the dome but I'm sure there's a better way of doing that coz I kept catching my head on the line when using the side door...

We are thinking of putting a windbreak to enclose the canopy area to give us extra privacy and for wind protection for when we're cooking...

Oh and thanks pubgal21! We can't wait! The weekend we had was not long enough, and we're just itching to get out there for a longer stay!

Well you don't want it fitted too close to the tent or else it would block the front windows too much. Even the large canopy has gaps at the sides. As long as it's over the front brow of the door, then it does the job, the rain runs down the tent - no drips on your head!

Hi All,

new to the forum and haven't done much holiday camping really. I have a tiny Mountain Hardwear Mountain Wing one person tent which I used for trek around Switzerland a few years ago and also a small coleman ohio 2 man tent. Myself and the girlfriend went for a couple of overnights with this last year and decided this year we would by a bigger tent so after looking on the web and perusing these boards we thought of either a coleman waterfall 5 or a vango Orchy.

We visited a local camping shop which had both on display but we weren't keen on the coleman ( my initial first choice). The quality didn't look good and one door zip broke as I opened it! My Coleman Ohio is a superb little tent, fantastic quality and stood up to a huge storm once when other tents blew away but the waterfall seemed completely different. We then went in the Vango Orchy 500 and decide this would be the tent for us. Plenty of room for two of us and it looks decent enough quality.
We have pitched it once in the garden, failed to get in the bag afterwards but after some careful re rolling and sitting on it we managed.

We are taking it on our first trip next bank holiday for 2 nights and are going to the Lake district in July so hopefully will be ok. Any advice on getting it back in the bag would be appreciated!

Weekend garden camping now completed, all packed away and nearly all in the bag!!

The is no room for the poles but the rest of it fits in snugly due to folding and squashing the air as you go.

This weekend is the first time I have had the tent up with all the kit now that I have a footprint, carpet, airbeds, proper sleeping bags and the like and I am well happy with my purchase.  The Orchy is everything that we will need to use for weekends and longer breaks if I can persuade the wife.

Plenty of room to move about in even though I am 6"2 and not the smallest of girth!  The sleeping pod is great and has plenty of room for two double airbeds easily.  All in all a quality bit of kit which will get a lot of use
