Our ideal tent is one that is quick and easy to put up for 1 or 2 night stays but that has an extension to add to make it suitable for 1 or 2 weeks in the summer. Do you think the Orchy 600 is the tent for us? We have a utility tent for cooking. We were also considering the Outwell Nevada M but the extension is an open one and we woud prefer one that we could close. We are a family of two adults, 1 teenager and a dog. Who better to ask than all you Orchy owners

orchhy 500 is 290 width 

i would say there woudlnt be much room for five of you we have the 500 for me , hubby, 5yr old and 14mth old and it is full to brim in sleep area although we do have to double airbeds in bedroom although i would reccommend going and looking we love ours but i made a rash decision as it doesnt really suit our sleep arrangements but trying something different in august as tent goes up very easy and side door is ace large living area

I`d say it was too small Chris.....like I said earlier, we have four in ours and its full.( my girls are 7 and 10)

I don't have one yet, however, I really like the specs and layouts of the Orchy series of tents, and am in love with the 400 and 500 after seeing them on display yesterday.

If I could pitch the 400 on my own (I am only 5'2 and female) then I would seriously consider it as a replacement for my Khyam Freelander when the time comes to replace it.

Has anyone managed to pitch the 400 on his/her own? The chap in the Yeoman Outdoors pitching vid for the 500 makes it look soooooooo easy!

Just added pics of our orchy 600 and extension to the review page and the tent pics thread.

Loved it, fab tent for a small family or a couple. Would definately recommend it.

I can pitch my 400 on my own, but I'm 6'1! I'm not sure whether I could do the 500 though. The most difficult bit is raising the dome section once you've got the poles into the pins on one side, so you can pin the other side. If you watch the Yeomans video on You Tube, the guy puts pegs through the rings on the first side to hold the poles in place at the bottom before he lifts the dome - I've tried this and its definitely helpful.

Be aware as well of the need to take it down on your own! Pushing the long poles back out of the sleeves on your own is actually more difficult than pushing them in when you put the tent up.

The chap in the camping shop where I saw the 400 and 500 said the same thing about putting the pegs through the rings on the first side etc., and he reckoned it is doable for one person.

I found out the hard way about taking the poles out of my Vango Sigma 300+ - don't pull, guide and push instead!

orchy looks great with extension on side did it go on alright this way and did it cause any probs or damage to your tent. Looks like you had a good time, was cooking in it okay think i will look out for one now

I won't lie, we were a bit flumoxed with it at first as we hadn't trialled it before the run BUT once we accepted that they don't fit like a glove we were really happy with it. I have posted a thread on here about the guys over the tent and have been given a couple of ideas about changing that set up, we had the extension guys over the tent attached to the tent guys IYSWIM.

It was really good, we didn't have any major rain but the shower we had didn't penetrate under the extension. I liked that it could be zipped off from the tent and also the extension could be zipped up as we have 2 small children and wanted to keep the cooking stuff out of the way.

For £70 (I think it was) it was great and I certainly would want the extra room be it with this extension or a utility tent.

We've never really had any condensation problems that have bothered us... We've had condensation but usually the heater has sorted it out. Our bedroom tends to sag after a few nights, but nothing major, it happened with the Kura too, I think it's just from it being used if you know what I mean.

I still need to get onto patching up the frayed bit on the tent... Since pitching the large canopy on the Kura, I've realised it was our fault it got damaged, we didn't pitch it far enough back over the top of the tent, it wasn't tight enough. We won't be making that mistake again. Am really hoping we can get away in August, don't know which tent yet... If it's the Orchy we're gonna take both canopies and see if we can get the large one to fit, if not we'll use the standard one.

Is anybody else having post-camping blues? I just lost my camping urge... I think coz we had such a great time and then it was all over... And my mini oven was great! Did some yummy croissants, part-bake bread rolls and did a great cheese and bacon on toast! OK, a bit off-topic, but I love my oven!

I have tonight just become the owner of an Orchy 600 in Laurel.

So I need to very urgently purchase an extension (one with the door) asap as I leave next Thursday for my hols!

I cannot find a laurel extension anywhere! Does anyone know where I can get one nowish???

Failing a laurel one - What colour extension would look best so you think?

Sage? Smoke?  etc etc I was thinking sage myself.

Your in Oxford I see so Go Outdoors for the tenacious tape I would say and whilst your there ask to speak to Dixi and see if he cant get a canopy in for you from one of the larger Go stores. 

Isn`t the laurel Orchy......laurel and sage?...Thant`s what I always thought mine was......so therefore the sage canopy....which I think is the colour of ours
