Hi. My uncle has given us a frame tent which I suspect was bought in the early 80's. He's given us the instructions which say the tent was manufactured by John Hawley & Co. As we bought a new tent last year, we would like to sell the frame tent but have no idea how much (if anything) to expect. Any ideas? It's in very good condition but it tent years it must be around 300!

Any advice would be great.

Jan

Hawley Goodall as far as I know was bought out by Lichfield (or had a name change) and in turn are now part of the company that own Vango and Blacks of Greenock..... I would say that your tent to hazard a guess is at least 20 years old...

Frame tents are still in huge demand and can go for a song or a mint,It all depends on the condition etc.... There are a couple of Hawley Goodall tents on E bay at the moment, perhaps you can get ideas from there....

I'd agree with the early eighties estimate.

J J Hawley's Speciality Works (on Lichfield Road, Walsall - hence the brand name) was demolished some years ago for a housing development, aptly enough called Hawley Close.

Goodalls were very good tents, they were one of the very few companies to produce a 2 berth frame tent.

The original Goodall tents were blue, but they were also manufactured in orange under the Halfords brand name.

I'd agree with '80's too. We have a Hawley Goodall tent(pic in my profile), its in excellent condition for its age, we were lucky enough to be given it on freecycle.
I'd put it up, get some photo's and put it on ebay with a decent description, you often see tents of this age in good nick sell for around 50.

Thanks for all the advice! Bernie, to be honest we are waiting decent weather to put it up to see what it's like. My Uncle reckons it's about 6ft by 6ft. The model is a Go-Go Tent but I can't find any information on them on the internet. I promise to get the husband in the garden with it as soon as we get some reasonable weather (might be waiting a while!!)

In the mean time, we are off to try out one of the camping pods in Eskdale. Sounded like a great idea until we found out there is no electricity and I had to buy some battery operated hair straighteners. I love being at one with nature!!

I have a goodalls scooter. It looks like a copy of a blacks good companion, but with heavier duty canvas and it's blue, not orange.
No zip, it's got ties. I reckon it's 1960's.
Crackinge tent. But I can't find any information about it. Or ever come across another one.

Does this look familiar? I have been wondering how old this scooter tent is? I know I've camped in it as a child in the early 80's but my mum has no idea where it came from or when. This model has a single pole and a zip door. The zip is broken so I'm thinking I might get it repaired and use it again. So many memories!!

Thanks I'll have a Google and check it out. The label on the tent bag is pretty faded but could just make out Goodall & scooter. Never heard of it before and this forum is the only place that I could find a reference to. Have added another photo from side on, might make it more recognisable.
