Rumours are starting that the Outwell 2018 range is being massively overhauled for 2019 - itís all changing apparently. I can see some online retailers are selling off old groundsheets and carpets cheap so it looks to be true.

Like many others I have had problems with Outwell 2017 & 2018 tents so I have decided to try a different manufacturer for 2019. Well, that was until I heard Outwell 2019 tents range will be completely different.

If theyíve sorted out the leaking tents problem then I am definitely interested again. The question is, are the 2019 models just different shapes using the same stitching and sealing methods, or have they overhauled the technology so that 2019 products will be more reliable and result in less returns?

Does anyone have any insight?

Just bought an Outwell Vermont XLP Tent after a failed experimentation with airbeams! I got the tent for a really good price compared with the RRP and what other suppliers are charging. I was talking to the assistant in the shop and he told me that they had bought up all the remaining Montanas and Vermonts from Outwell as they will not be in Outwell's 2019 range. I asked why and he told me that they were reducing the price points for the tents in 2019 as many retailers have given them the feedback that they are no longer competitive. This, he said, they were going to achieve by lowering the specification of the materials used and the included features on the new range and said he was going to a launch event in Denmark next week. For me it would be a shame if Outwell went in this direction as I have always found their tents good quality in the past and offering better features than their competitors.
Also mentioned that Vango are also having a substantial change to their range, far more than the usual 'refresh!

Itís always exciting to see new tents, but itíll be sad if they sacrifice on quality. We bought Outwell last year as we felt itís a good brand. Itís a shame they feel the need to complete with the cheaper brands.

I guess there is always a tension between quality and affordability in any business. Most companies use the same group of Chinese factories too, so it is not surprising that the competiveness is there when they are all using the same manufacturers!
Not every tent is tested (that would put prices right up) but a sample from each batch is done. Therefore some faulty ones do slip through. So for me one of the criteria to base decisions on is about customer service records when I am buying new.
And for second hand I have tended to get traditional quality tents (like our Cabanon pyramid) because the makers do a range of repairs and spares, and the simple design makes repairs easy too.

Thanks loan1983

I have seen some YouTube reviews from the new Vango range, looks very good particularly the Vango Anantara 600XL TC which seems to be new.

Sadly no mention of release date or when pricing will be available.

in my opinion vango don't have very good tents   you pay a lot of money only for the brand in my opinion best 3 brands on market are Zempire Outwell and Kampa . Quality of material use by vango is lower.

What, even their force ten range and I'm not just talking their traditional force tens?
As for outwell. If they are going to reduce the quality of the outwell brand then I suppose the easy camp tents will get even worse. 5 years ago they were not bad but now they are pretty bad. I have always considered outwell overpriced anyway.
Kampa are also resting on past reputation and there have been reports of Zempire quality failures too though Zempire do have good aftersales by all accounts.

You aren't anything to do with outwell are you? New account etc etc

i do repair and after sale and i can tell you for all the tents we sale vango have biggest return rate . Outwell quality is the same maybe better on new range dont offer so many extra like now they dont have big bedrooms and 2 doors on all of their tens . Zempire is a New Zealand brand and have small problems with delivery of parts butt trust me like quality beat all manufacturers. kampa first focus on awnings and after tents

And the force tens? Maybe you don't get many of them. Like the helium or xenons for example. I take it you work for camping spares if you have a lot of vango repairs. That is who AMG use for warranty repairs after all. It is owned by AMG and do the warranty repairs on Vango, Lichfield and Blacks tents. As far as I know outwell use Scottish mountain gear for warrantied repairs.

Strikes me the difference between the brands is more about how much you spend - with a few exceptions like karsten , if most tents are made in the same factories in China then the quality will be basically the same. Spend more get a better spec, get a better tent. Or a bigger tent at the same quality .   Even the experts aren't experts beyond this basic principle as any brand with very high returns would simply go out of business either on cost of return's or simply be delisted by the retailers.    There is a lot to go wrong with a tent when you think about it - and at the prices the market expects a percentage of issues can be expected .

That said, we seek data points for information to make us feel informed as that's what makes us feel reassured. Hence I don't own an air beam and wouldnt buy a zempire. Even though they are just as good as everything else in vfm terms I am sure

I doubt you would see any Blacks or f10 classics on any climbs these days but you would probably see other force tens in the Alps. As for it only being about family tents, you gave a blanket "in my opinion vango don't do very good tents" sweeping statement which is rather unfair.
At the end of the day, all manufacturers will have fluctuations in quality and fir a family tent, I wouldn't go Vango or Outwell.
